PlayStation Plus is the closest subscription alternative for someone playing on a PS4 or PS5; it is not a like-for-like substitute on Xbox or PC. Do not compare the services by headline game count alone. Start with the games you want, then verify the platform and tier on which each is available. If streaming, classic games, or trials matter to you, check whether the relevant PS Plus tier includes them in your region. PC Game Pass can be the more relevant comparison if you play on Windows and do not need Ultimate’s console-oriented bundle. The US store listing currently shows $13.99 per month for PC Game Pass and describes 300+ PC games, day-one titles, and EA Play. That is a dated US listing, not a global or guaranteed future price; check the Xbox store listing before subscribing.
It is still a catalog subscription, not ownership of every game in it. A game may be unavailable on your device, outside the plan, or removed from the library. Confirm the exact title and plan before treating it as part of your choice.

When buying games individually makes more sense
Buying can be a better fit when your shortlist is small, the games are not included in the subscription you are considering, or you expect to revisit them after a subscription ends. Compare the current price for the correct platform and edition with the subscription cost over the time you expect to play. A digital purchase and a physical copy may have different availability and terms, so check the relevant store or retailer rather than assuming all editions are interchangeable.
Subscription access is temporary: Xbox says access to Game Pass games lasts until the subscription ends or a game leaves the library. - Write down the games you genuinely plan to play. Check each title in the current catalog or store, including the edition and platform. Catalog examples are snapshots: for instance, Xbox’s September 15, 2026 catalog update named additions and games leaving September 30, 2026. It is not a permanent lineup.
- Choose the platform you will use. Compare PS Plus for PS4/PS5, PC Game Pass for Windows, and Xbox plans for their supported platforms and features. Use the official Xbox plan comparison and Sony’s catalog page to verify availability.
- Check the live local price and term. The current US Xbox listings show Ultimate at $22.99 per month and PC Game Pass at $13.99 per month; these are listed prices that can change and do not establish what either plan costs elsewhere.
