Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteYes—The Sims and The Sims 2 became available to eligible Xbox Game Pass members in January 2026, but not as new native Xbox-console releases. EA added both classic PC games to the EA Play Play List on January 22, and EA Play is included with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass. In practice, this is primarily a PC benefit delivered through the EA Play catalog.
That means Ultimate subscribers should not assume they can install either game on an Xbox One or Xbox Series X|S, earn Xbox achievements, or stream the games from the cloud.

When did The Sims and The Sims 2 join Game Pass?
The official arrival date was January 22, 2026, when EA added The Sims and The Sims 2 to EA Play. An Xbox EA Play update published on January 15 announced the date. Secondary reporting later noted that the games appeared in the Game Pass catalog around January 26, but that was catalog visibility—not a separate, bespoke Game Pass launch.
The distinction is important: EA added the games to EA Play first. Game Pass members received access because some Game Pass plans include EA Play.

EA’s official listing identifies the titles as The Sims and The Sims 2. The first game is often called “The Sims 1,” but The Sims is the formal title. This addition does not refer to The Sims 3, The Sims 4, or a new remake.
EA’s EA Play listing includes both classic games, while Xbox’s January EA Play announcement gives the January 22 arrival date.

No confirmed native Xbox-console release should be inferred from the Game Pass connection. The available information describes these entries as classic PC releases distributed through EA Play. Ultimate includes PC access, but its branding does not turn every EA Play PC title into an Xbox console or cloud game.
Before subscribing, assume the relevant route is:
- Install and play on a Windows PC through the Xbox app and/or EA app.
- Do not assume installation on Xbox One or Xbox Series X|S.
- Do not assume Xbox cloud streaming.
- Do not assume Xbox controller support, cloud saves, or console features unless the current product listing explicitly confirms them.
Reporting from TrueAchievements also says the classic PC releases do not provide Xbox achievements through the subscription. They should not be treated as a new completionist opportunity on Xbox.

Are the full games included?
They are included as Play List games for eligible EA Play members, rather than as limited time trials. EA describes Play List titles as available for play while the membership remains active, subject to the applicable terms and catalog availability.
That is subscription access, not ownership. You can continue playing while your Game Pass or EA Play entitlement is active, but access can end if:
Recommended Free Tools
- your subscription expires;
- EA or Microsoft removes or changes the catalog entry;
- the title is unavailable in your region; or
- the applicable plan or platform changes.
The available official information confirms the classic base-game entries, but it does not establish that every original expansion pack is included. Do not assume that the complete historical expansion catalog comes with the subscription.
Likewise, the games should not automatically be described as remastered or enhanced. The available evidence confirms their inclusion, but does not verify a complete list of compatibility fixes, modern-resolution support, widescreen features, mod support, custom-content compatibility, controller support, or cloud-save behavior.
Those details should be checked in the current EA app or product listing before installation. Older mods and fan patches may also behave differently from the original retail releases.

How to install them on PC
- Open the Xbox app for PC or the EA app.
- Sign in with the Microsoft account that holds the eligible Game Pass subscription.
- If prompted, sign in to or create an EA account and complete the account-linking process.
- Search for The Sims or The Sims 2.
- Select the EA Play listing and choose Install.
- If the games do not appear in search, open the EA Play catalog from the Xbox app or search the Play List directly in the EA app.
App labels and menu paths can change. Xbox’s explanation of PC Game Pass and EA Play integration says the Xbox app guides users through setup when they download their first EA Play game; the EA app may then be required for installation or authentication.
If the games do not appear
- Confirm that the active subscription is Ultimate or PC Game Pass, rather than a Game Pass plan without EA Play.
- Check that the Xbox app is signed into the correct Microsoft account.
- Open the EA app and verify that the intended EA account is linked.
- Sign out of the Xbox app, restart it, and sign back in.
- Search the EA Play catalog directly instead of relying on an old Game Pass screenshot or article.
- Check regional availability and whether the catalog has refreshed.
- Make sure you are looking on PC, not only on an Xbox console.
Do not immediately purchase a second EA Play subscription until you have checked the account entitlement and linking status.

PC Game Pass
For a PC-only player, PC Game Pass is the most logical Game Pass option. It includes EA Play for PC as well as the broader PC Game Pass library. The US price shown on Xbox’s page was $13.99 per month when checked on August 16, 2026, before taxes or promotions.
Xbox Game Pass Ultimate
Ultimate makes more sense for someone who already plays on Xbox and PC, wants the wider console and PC libraries, or values cloud gaming and online console multiplayer alongside EA Play. The US price shown on Xbox’s page was $22.99 per month on August 16, 2026.
It is usually excessive if the sole goal is to play two classic PC games. Ultimate’s console-focused benefits do not change the fact that these particular entries are primarily a PC offering.

Standalone EA Play
Standalone EA Play is the lower-cost route for readers who mainly want EA’s catalog and do not need the larger Game Pass library. EA listed US pricing of $5.99 per month or $39.99 per year when checked on August 16, 2026.
EA Play may therefore be the better fit for someone interested specifically in The Sims, The Sims 2, and other EA Play titles. Prices and availability vary by country, taxes, promotions, and account eligibility.
Check the current Xbox plan page and EA’s EA Play page before subscribing. Xbox’s subscription terms warn that game titles, features, platforms, and availability can vary over time and by region.
Other Sims games in the January EA Play update
The same January update was also associated with MySims and MySims Kingdom. That does not mean every game in the broader Sims franchise is included with every Game Pass tier. Always verify the individual title, platform, and plan entitlement in the current catalog.
The bottom line
For PC players, this is a worthwhile addition if they already have Game Pass Ultimate, PC Game Pass, or EA Play. The games are full Play List entries rather than short trials, but access remains tied to an active subscription.
The catch is the platform. This is best understood as The Sims and The Sims 2 becoming available through EA Play on PC—not as fully modernized, achievement-enabled Xbox versions. If these two classics are your only reason to subscribe, compare standalone EA Play with PC Game Pass before paying for Ultimate.
