Microsoft announced another Xbox console price increase, effective August 1, 2026, with the size depending on storage capacity. The company cited rising memory and storage costs—not tariffs—as the reason for this latest increase. Its announcement also said U.S. console prices had already risen the previous October.
How much did Xbox prices go up?
Microsoft announced increases of US$100 for 512 GB models and US$150 for 1 TB models. The company also said it would sunset the 2 TB model. These are the announced changes, not a verified table of current U.S. store prices; Microsoft’s console price update does not establish today’s shelf price for each configuration.
Microsoft said U.S. console prices had increased by $20–$70 the preceding October. That is the range given in the company’s June 2026 announcement; it does not provide a complete current-price comparison in that statement.
When did the new Xbox prices take effect?
The announced changes took effect worldwide on August 1, 2026. Microsoft announced them on June 25, 2026. Check the current Microsoft Store or retailer listing for the price and availability in your region before buying, since the company’s store is dynamic.

Why did Microsoft raise console prices again?
Microsoft attributed the increase to higher memory and storage component costs. In its June 25, 2026 announcement, the company said console storage and memory prices had risen by more than 2.5 times and that it expected another doubling by fall 2027. Those figures and the forecast are Microsoft’s statements, not independently verified market measurements in the announcement.
Microsoft described the situation as a broader consumer-electronics component crisis that was especially difficult for consoles. It did not name tariffs as the cause of this price decision.

Did Trump’s tariffs cause the latest Xbox price increase?
The cited announcement does not say they did. Microsoft’s stated explanation for the August 2026 increase is higher memory and storage costs. The tariff context in the headline should not be read as evidence that tariffs caused this particular decision. Timing alone is not enough to establish that connection.
What Xbox models and configurations are affected?
Microsoft’s store lists the Series S as a disc-free console with 512 GB or 1 TB SSD options. Series X is listed in UHD Blu-ray disc-drive and disc-free configurations, with 1 TB or 2 TB SSD options. Because Microsoft said it would sunset the 2 TB model, its availability should be checked rather than assumed. See the Microsoft Xbox consoles store for current configurations and listings.

Is a refurbished Xbox cheaper?
Microsoft said certified refurbished consoles were available through Microsoft Stores for up to US$100 off MSRP. “Up to” is a maximum, not a guaranteed discount on every model, and the announcement does not establish current inventory or pricing. Check the live Microsoft Store listing for eligible models and terms.
Microsoft also said it was working with retail partners on a previously played console program. Its announcement did not name participating retailers or give program terms, so availability and savings cannot be assumed.
