Xterio announced a $40 million raise on August 29, 2022, to build cross-platform, multiplayer Web3 games aimed at mobile and browser play. This is a 2022 financing story. Its 2022 plans and the company’s current pages are separate things, and this article keeps them apart so the older forecasts are not read as current release dates.
What Xterio announced in August 2022
In a company post dated August 29, 2022, Xterio described itself as “a game developer and publisher with a global team footprint.” It said its goal was cross-platform multiplayer games across genres, with player ownership built into the experience. The post named FunPlus, Makers Fund, and XPLA as lead investors and listed HashKey, Foresight Ventures, Infinity Ventures Crypto, Matrix Partners, and Animoca Brands as participants.

The Block followed on August 30, 2022. Its report described the round as a simple agreement for future tokens (SAFT) and cited a $300 million valuation drawn from an interview with co-founder Jeremy Horn. It is the source for the SAFT and valuation details below.

The company’s post and the press coverage do not describe the lead group in exactly the same way. FTX Ventures is named as a co-lead by The Block and by the XPLA partnership release, but it is not named in Xterio’s own post. Rather than merge the two descriptions, the table shows which source names each investor and in what role.

The SAFT structure and the $300 million valuation
The Block reported that the round used a SAFT, a contract to receive tokens later rather than equity now. It attributed both the structure and the $300 million valuation to Jeremy Horn. The valuation is therefore the figure Horn gave to the reporter in 2022, not a number set by an outside auditor or confirmed in a filing.
The same report said Horn described a utility token meant to reward users and partners. That was a plan as of 2022. It does not establish what token exists today, what it does, or what it is worth.

What the 2022 plans said, and what they do not show
The Block reported that Xterio expected to release several games for mobile and browser interfaces in “the upcoming quarters.” That was a forecast made in 2022. Readers should not treat it as a current schedule. Nothing in the 2022 coverage shows which titles shipped, when, or on which platforms.
The round also came before the company’s current game lineup and platform descriptions. Comparing the 2022 framing with the current pages shows how the company’s positioning changed, but it does not show whether the earlier targets were met.

Technology the company describes
The current whitepaper describes account-abstracted wallet integration, a decentralized identity system, an NFT marketplace and mint launchpad, on-chain operations, and developer-facing APIs and smart contracts. It also says the company is advancing AI asset-generation tools and an AI “emotion engine” built with REKA. These are the company’s descriptions of its own systems. They are not independent tests of whether the systems work as described.

Partnership and token context
FunPlus and XPLA
An XPLA partnership release described Xterio as FunPlus’s exclusive Web3 partner. It said Xterio would assist in developing the XPLA mainnet and identified Xterio as a partner in XPLA’s gaming initiative. This explains why FunPlus and XPLA appear in the financing story, but the release describes the relationship only. It says nothing about the value of any investment.
Chris Petrovic, FunPlus chief business officer and a council member of the Xterio Foundation, told The Block: “They understand that ultimately the entertainment value of experiences must come first to truly deliver the promise of web3 in the long run.”
Token events announced later
Xterio’s later announcements referred to a planned token-generation event on January 8, 2025, and to XTER ecosystem messaging. Those posts document what the company said at the time. They do not establish a token price, present trading status, or current utility, and they should not be read as an investment case.
