Its 11-character roster and emphasis on reading opponents, parrying, and countering are familiar fighting-game foundations; its most distinctive advertised feature is dynamic, tournament-style commentary that reacts to events in a match. The store lists training and online modes, but does not establish how active matchmaking is today.
What is Yatagarasu: Attack on Cataclysm?
Developed by Yatagarasu Dev Team and published by Nyu Media, Yatagarasu: Attack on Cataclysm is a Windows PC fighting game released July 7, 2015. Steam describes it as an original, traditional-style 2D fighter with 11 playable characters and says it takes heavy inspiration from Street Fighter III. The Steam store listing is the cited digital purchase route.
A fictional 1925 setting
The story is set on December 25, 1925. After a Japanese nationalist revolutionary group stages a coup, the old government orders the secret information organization Igasei to launch the Yatagarasu assassination program against the coup leaders. This is the game’s fictional premise, not a claim about actual historical events.
How does the fighting work?
The store listing frames the controls as accessible, while describing the main challenge as reading an opponent, parrying attacks, and countering. That is the publisher’s description, not an independent assessment of the controls or difficulty. The emphasis suggests a fighter where anticipating an opponent’s choices matters alongside attacking.

Modes listed by Steam
The listing advertises single-player, multiplayer, ranked matches, lobbies, online leaderboards, tournament play, and a fully featured training mode. Those are listed features, not confirmation that online opponents or matchmaking are readily available now. Current player activity and matchmaking quality have not been established.
What makes its presentation distinctive?
Dynamic commentary is the game’s standout advertised feature: tournament-style commentary responds to events during a match. Steam lists English and Japanese commentary. It names Jchensor, UltraDavid, and Maximilian as English commentary contributors. The store also reports English and Japanese interface and subtitle support; Japanese is listed with full audio.

Does it support controllers, including Xbox controllers?
SteamDB’s configuration lists full controller support, but that broad metadata does not guarantee that every controller or input will work as expected on a current PC. A historical exception is documented for Xbox triggers: in a Steam community reply attributed to Nyu Media and posted February 17, 2016, the publisher said Xbox triggers were not supported as expected at that time. The publisher suggested switching the controller to a PS3 or PC configuration, or using a key-mapping utility. Read the dated Steam community exchange.

PCGamingWiki also records an XInput limitation. Together, these are historical and secondary compatibility signals, not a test of present-day hardware. If you plan to buy a controller or fight stick specifically for this game, confirm its mapping options and compatibility first; no particular modern device has been verified here. SteamDB’s configuration and PCGamingWiki’s input notes provide additional context.

- Players looking for a traditional 2D fighter with a compact 11-character roster and a stated focus on parries, reads, and counters.
- Players interested in training and single-player options, or in the unusual presentation of match-reactive commentary.
- Players who can check controller mappings before committing to a setup, particularly if they expect Xbox trigger inputs to work without adjustment.
If online play is your main reason to buy, treat the listed ranked, lobby, and tournament modes as features of the game—not proof of an active player base. The present population is unknown.

- HOW ANXIETY ATTACK PLAYS - Play TRIGGER cards to shove your opponents into the ANXIETY SPIRAL and DEFUSE cards to pull yourself back to safety. Last player still calm wins. A board game, not another deck. 2-6 players, ages 8+, 25-45 minutes.
- THE MISERY TWIST - Land in the spiral and you do not leave the table. You flip to your MISERY form and hunt the players who are still safe, because misery loves company. Nobody is eliminated, nobody sits out. Best with 3 or more players.
- ANXIETY, COPING SKILLS AND DARK HUMOR - Every card names a real trigger or a real coping skill, so it works as a funny anxiety game and as a conversation starter about feelings and emotions. Mildly dark themes and potty humor.
- FROM THE ORGAN ATTACK CREATOR - Drawn by Nick Seluk of The Awkward Yeti and the Heart and Brain comics. If you play Organ Attack, this is the same humor on a board, with a spiral instead of organs.
- GIFT-READY AND GENUINELY FUNNY - 754% funded by 2,755 Kickstarter backers, by the New York Times bestselling artist. A gift for the overthinker, the psychology student, the school counselor or your own anxious family.
