ycomuiu.dll Missing: Identify the App and Repair It Safely

By VGSources Team 9 min read

Start with this diagnostic checklist

Before replacing anything, answer these three questions:

  1. Which program is named in the error? Note the executable, such as RecoverMaster.exe, rather than focusing only on ycomuiu.dll.
  2. When did the problem begin? Check whether it followed an uninstall, update, cleanup, antivirus alert, or move of the application.
  3. Is the application 32-bit or 64-bit? The best-documented ycomuiu.dll build is a 32-bit DLL, so architecture matters.

ycomuiu.dll is an application DLL, not a normal Windows component. If the error appeared when a particular program started, repairing or reinstalling that program is the safest and most likely fix.

What is ycomuiu.dll?

Public file metadata identifies ycomuiu.dll as an obscure third-party Windows DLL associated with a native C++ user-interface library. The best-documented build is 32-bit, with version information reported as 5.0.0.1004. Public metadata also reports Simplified Chinese language information and a Chinese company attribution, but that attribution is not enough to establish the exact owner of every copy.

The DLL exports names associated with DuiLib, including UI classes such as CButtonUI, CComboUI, CContainerUI, and CActiveXUI. That pattern is consistent with a program interface library, not with a Windows system runtime.

There is a documented association with Chinese Windows data-recovery software, including RecoverMaster-related installations. However, this does not prove that RecoverMaster is the only program that can install or use the file. Confirm the owner on the affected computer by checking the executable and installation folder.

ycomuiu.dll is not known to be:

  • A Windows system file
  • A DirectX component
  • A .NET component
  • A Microsoft Visual C++ runtime DLL
  • A file that should normally be copied into C:WindowsSystem32

The reported 5.0.0.1004 build is not necessarily the newest build, and claims about a 64-bit version are not independently verified.

What the error message means

You may see messages such as:

  • “The program can’t start because ycomuiu.dll is missing from your computer.”
  • “The code execution cannot proceed because ycomuiu.dll was not found.”
  • “There was a problem starting ycomuiu.dll.”
  • “Error loading ycomuiu.dll. The specified module could not be found.”
  • “ycomuiu.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error.”
  • “The procedure entry point could not be located.”

The wording is important. “The specified module could not be found” does not always mean that ycomuiu.dll itself is absent. Windows may have found the named DLL but failed to load one of its dependencies.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

An entry-point error usually indicates that the DLL does not match the application version. A “not designed to run on Windows” message can indicate corruption, an architecture mismatch, or an invalid replacement file.

Fix 1: Repair the application that shows the error

Start here if the error names a program.

Use Windows’ repair option

On Windows 11:

  1. Open Start > Settings.
  2. Select Apps > Installed apps.
  3. Find the affected application.
  4. Select the three-dot menu beside it.
  5. Choose Advanced options, if available.
  6. Select Repair.
  7. Start the application again.

Not every traditional desktop program provides an Advanced options or Repair button. Microsoft describes this repair path in its application repair guidance.

If Repair is unavailable or changes nothing, use the application’s own maintenance program. Look in its Start menu folder for entries such as Repair, Modify, Verify files, or Maintenance.

Reinstall from the original source

If repair fails:

  1. Close the affected program.
  2. Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
  3. Select the program and choose Uninstall.
  4. Restart Windows.
  5. Download or run the installer supplied by the original vendor or your organization.
  6. Install the same application again.
  7. Launch it from its normal shortcut.

A complete reinstall is better than downloading only ycomuiu.dll, because the installer supplies the DLL together with the correct executable, configuration files, and dependent libraries.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

If the program contains important recovery or business data, check its documentation before uninstalling. Removing the program should not automatically mean removing its data, but application-specific behavior varies.

Fix 2: Check whether antivirus quarantined the file

Security software can remove or quarantine a DLL after an update or scan. Do not immediately disable antivirus protection.

  1. Open Start and search for Windows Security.
  2. Open Virus & threat protection.
  3. Select Protection history.
  4. Review recent detections for the application folder or ycomuiu.dll.
  5. If the application came from a trusted, verified installer, inspect the detection details.
  6. Use Restore only when you have confirmed that the program and installer are trustworthy.
  7. Reinstall the application if you cannot verify the file.

Microsoft documents the available restore and allow actions in its Protection History guidance.

If antivirus repeatedly removes the file, treat that as a security signal. Run a full scan and obtain a fresh installer from the original software source instead of forcing an unknown DLL back into the folder.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Fix 3: Confirm the DLL is in the correct application folder

A third-party DLL normally stays beside the program that loads it.

  1. Read the executable name in the error dialog.
  2. Search for that executable in File Explorer.
  3. Right-click it and choose Open file location.
  4. Inspect that folder for ycomuiu.dll.
  5. Also search likely application locations:
  6. C:Program Files
  7. C:Program Files (x86)
  8. The vendor’s own installation directory
  9. If multiple copies exist, note which copy is beside the executable that fails.

Do not copy a random copy into C:WindowsSystem32 or C:WindowsSysWOW64. Windows has special redirection behavior for those folders, and placing a third-party DLL there can create version conflicts or cause another application to load the wrong file.

If the application was removed but the error appears at every startup, the DLL may not be the real problem. Check Task Manager > Startup apps, scheduled tasks, services, and old shortcuts for a leftover entry that still launches the removed executable.

Fix 4: Match 32-bit and 64-bit architecture

The documented ycomuiu.dll build is x86, or 32-bit. A 64-bit process cannot load a 32-bit DLL, and a 32-bit process cannot load a 64-bit DLL. Microsoft explains this separation in its guidance on running 32-bit applications.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

To identify the application architecture:

  1. Open Task Manager with Ctrl + Shift + Esc.
  2. Start the affected application if possible.
  3. Open the Details tab.
  4. Right-click the column headings and choose Select columns.
  5. Enable Platform, if your Windows version provides it.
  6. Compare the program’s architecture with the installer supplied by its vendor.

A 32-bit application commonly needs the vendor’s x86 build even when Windows itself is 64-bit. Do not substitute a DLL from another architecture or another release. If the application offers separate installers, reinstall the version that matches the program and its dependencies.

Fix 5: Investigate a missing dependency

A DLL can be present and still fail to load because another library is missing. This is especially likely when the message says “The specified module could not be found.”

Check the complete error text for names such as:

  • MSVCP*.dll
  • VCRUNTIME*.dll
  • api-ms-win-crt-*.dll

Only repair or install Microsoft Visual C++ when the error identifies one of those runtimes or the application’s documentation specifically requires it. ycomuiu.dll itself is not a Visual C++ runtime file.

Microsoft provides the current Visual C++ Redistributable packages, including official x86 and x64 installers. A 32-bit application generally needs the x86 package, even on 64-bit Windows. Older programs may require a particular legacy runtime, so installing the newest package is not guaranteed to replace every older release.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Do not install DirectX, .NET, or Visual C++ at random simply because a DLL is missing. Match the prerequisite to the full error or the application’s official requirements.

Fix 6: Use Windows repair commands only for broader system problems

Because ycomuiu.dll appears to be a third-party application file, System File Checker normally will not restore it. Use Windows servicing commands when other Windows components are also failing, system applications are damaged, or the error began alongside broader corruption.

  1. Open Start.
  2. Search for Command Prompt.
  3. Right-click it and select Run as administrator.
  4. Run:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
  1. Wait for DISM to finish.
  2. Then run:
sfc /scannow
  1. Restart Windows.
  2. Test the affected application again.

Microsoft recommends running DISM before SFC in its System File Checker guidance.

Success means the commands complete without an unrepaired-corruption result, but that still does not guarantee that ycomuiu.dll will be restored. If Windows repair succeeds and the application still reports the DLL error, return to the application installer.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

When manually comparing Windows components, hunting through repair results and repeating SFC or DISM without knowing what changed can be time-consuming. Outbyte PC Repair can scan for reported problems; its free scan shows what it finds, while repair is handled by the full version. Reinstalling the program that owns ycomuiu.dll remains the definitive fix for this application-specific file.

Fix 7: Check Windows Features only when the application requires them

Windows Features are not a normal source for ycomuiu.dll, but an older application may separately require a Windows component such as .NET Framework 3.5.

If the application’s documentation or full error specifically names a Windows feature:

  1. Open Start and search for Turn Windows features on or off.
  2. Open the result.
  3. Enable only the feature the application requires.
  4. Select OK.
  5. Restart if Windows requests it.
  6. Test the application again.

Do not enable unrelated features as a general DLL repair. They will not normally replace a third-party UI library.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Fix 8: Update drivers only when the evidence points there

Device drivers are not the usual cause of a missing ycomuiu.dll. Consider driver work only if the application also crashes with display, storage, USB, or hardware errors.

  1. Right-click Start and open Device Manager.
  2. Expand the device category related to the error.
  3. Right-click the device and select Update driver.
  4. Choose Search automatically for drivers.
  5. Restart Windows and test the application.
  6. If the problem began after a driver update, open Properties > Driver and consider Roll Back Driver, when available.

Manually identifying the correct driver version can involve checking several hardware entries and vendor pages. Outbyte Driver Updater can scan for reported driver issues; its free scan shows what it finds, while driver installation is handled by the full version. It is not a substitute for reinstalling the application that supplied ycomuiu.dll.

Why regsvr32 usually does not help

regsvr32 is not a general DLL installation command. It is intended for DLLs that provide registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer.

The documented exports for the known ycomuiu.dll build point to UI classes and Windows dependencies, not to a normal COM registration interface. Running this command is therefore not a recommended fix:

regsvr32 ycomuiu.dll

It may produce an error stating that the module was loaded but the DllRegisterServer entry point was not found. Microsoft explains the command’s actual purpose in its regsvr32 documentation.

Avoid random DLL downloads

Do not download ycomuiu.dll from an anonymous DLL repository and copy it into a system folder. That approach can provide:

  • Malware or a tampered file
  • The wrong application version
  • The wrong 32-bit or 64-bit architecture
  • A file with incompatible exports
  • A DLL that does not include its own dependencies

There is no verified official standalone download source for ycomuiu.dll. The safe source is the original application installer, repair package, or verified support channel. If the application is obsolete and no trusted installer remains, contact its vendor or replace the application rather than forcing an unknown DLL into Windows.

If reinstalling still fails

Use this order:

  1. Confirm the executable named by the error.
  2. Check that the application folder contains the correct vendor-installed files.
  3. Review antivirus Protection History.
  4. Confirm the application architecture.
  5. Read the full error for a missing dependency.
  6. Repair any explicitly required Visual C++ runtime.
  7. Run DISM and SFC only if Windows shows broader corruption.
  8. Check startup entries if the error appears after the application was removed.
  9. Run a full Windows Security scan if the file was replaced or repeatedly deleted.
  10. Use System Restore only if a suitable restore point predates the failure and you understand its effect on applications and files.

FAQ

Is ycomuiu.dll part of Windows?

No evidence identifies it as a Windows component. It is best treated as a third-party application DLL.

What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Is ycomuiu.dll a Visual C++ file?

No. Its documented exports identify a native UI library. Visual C++ may be a separate dependency, but installing it does not replace ycomuiu.dll.

Which program installs ycomuiu.dll?

Public evidence points toward Chinese third-party software, including data-recovery software and RecoverMaster-related installations. The exact owner must be confirmed from the executable and application folder on your PC.

Can I copy it to System32?

No. Keep the DLL with the application that shipped it. Copying it to a Windows system directory can cause conflicts and does not repair missing dependencies.

Should I run regsvr32?

Usually no. This DLL is not established as a self-registering COM component, so regsvr32 is not a normal solution.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

What if the error says the module could not be found?

The named DLL may be present while one of its dependencies is missing. Repair or reinstall the complete application, then investigate any runtime named in the full error.

What is the safest fix?

Identify the program that displays the error and repair or reinstall that program from its original, trusted installer.
