Neither choice is objectively correct: choose Yennefer for Geralt’s established relationship and a quieter life together, or Triss for the Novigrad mage-rescue story and a life in Kovir. The romance changes Geralt’s relationship outcome, not Ciri’s fate. You can also choose neither. This guide contains spoilers for romance quests and their outcomes.
How the romance choice works
Each romance has a specific commitment choice. A preliminary romantic moment with Triss is not enough on its own; Yennefer’s commitment is made during her own quest. If Geralt commits to both, the game does not provide a lasting shared relationship: a later quest costs him both romances.

Spoilers: how to choose Triss
1. Kiss Triss during A Matter of Life and Death
During the hedge-maze sequence at the masquerade, kiss Triss. This supports the romance route, but it does not commit Geralt to her by itself.
#1 Best Overall
- Trained from early childhood and mutated to gain superhuman skills, strength, and reflexes, witchers are a counterbalance to the monster-infested world in which they live.
- Built for endless adventure, the massive open world of The Witcher sets new standards in terms of size, depth, and complexity.
- Take on the most important contract of your life: to track down the child of prophecy, the key to saving or destroying this world.
2. Make the commitment in Now or Never
Complete Now or Never. At the docks, ask Triss to stay and choose “I love you.” The resulting lighthouse scene confirms the romance. This quest also affects the Novigrad mages and related political quests, so its consequences extend beyond the relationship.
Spoilers: how to choose Yennefer
Complete The Last Wish. After the djinn sequence removes the magical bond between Geralt and Yennefer, choose “I still love you, too” to continue their relationship. The earlier optional scene in The King Is Dead — Long Live the King does not replace this commitment decision.
Spoilers: choosing both can end both romances
If Geralt makes both commitments, the later quest It Takes Three to Tango, during Final Preparations, resolves the situation by costing him both women as long-term partners. It is not a route to keep both relationships. If you have already committed to both and want a different outcome, reload a save from before one of the commitments.
Rank #2
- If you buy this game, you will receive a free next-gen update on December 14th!
- Play as a highly trained monster slayer for hire.
- Built for endless adventure, the massive open world of The Witcher sets new standards in terms of size, depth and complexity.
- The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Game of the Year edition brings together the base game and all the additional content released to date.
Does the choice affect Ciri’s ending?
No. The romance choice does not determine Ciri’s fate. Her outcome depends on other late-story responses, whether she visits Emhyr, and the war outcome. Romance instead affects Geralt’s personal epilogue and, in Blood and Wine, which relationship state may determine who visits Corvo Bianco.
Which route fits your preferred story?
- Choose Yennefer if you prefer Geralt’s long-running relationship with her and their quieter retirement outcome.
- Choose Triss if you prefer her Novigrad mage-rescue arc and the Kovir outcome.
- Choose neither if you want Geralt to remain unattached.
These are narrative preferences, not gameplay advantages: the choice is about Geralt’s story rather than difficulty or performance. The game is The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.
