Nintendo describes the play as discovery-focused: Yoshi explores colorful habitats using his actions, experiments with the creatures he encounters, and learns more about them. The official descriptions establish an adventure centered on exploration and discovery; they do not provide a definitive genre label such as “platformer.”

- Experiment to make discoveries about each creature. What does it do? What does it taste like? How will it react if you carry it around or give it a piece of fruit?
- Make discoveries to collect Stars and…hey, what’s Bowser Jr. doing here?!
- You can even give each creature a name!
Which platform is it on?
Nintendo lists the game for Nintendo Switch 2. Nintendo Canada identifies it as a Switch 2 exclusive on its product page.
What purchase formats are available?
Nintendo documents both packaged and digital formats. The format notice does not establish a gameplay or performance difference between them. Retail partners set their own prices, and costs vary by title and region; check your local retailer or Nintendo store for current pricing and stock. Nintendo also says that, beginning in May 2026, digital titles published by Nintendo and exclusive to Switch 2 have an MSRP different from their physical versions, starting with preorders for this game. Its pricing support page explains the policy but does not establish a current price for every region or retailer.
