You can remove the Play History tile from Xbox Home by highlighting it in the Recent Games and Apps list and pressing the Menu button on your controller. Xbox announced this on August 19, 2026, but the rollout began with Insiders, so the option may not appear on every console yet.

How to remove the Play History tile

The steps below follow Xbox’s own description of the feature. Xbox’s announcement does not quote the exact wording of the menu entry, so the last step describes the option generically.

  1. Go to Home and find Play History in the Recent Games and Apps list at the top of the screen.
  2. Highlight the Play History tile with your controller.
  3. Press the Menu button on the controller.
  4. Select the removal option in the menu that appears.

Once the tile is removed, it no longer appears in that list on Home. Xbox says the same Menu button action works for any item in the list, not only Play History, which lets you keep Home focused on the games and apps you use most.

Check whether your console has the option

Xbox’s August 19, 2026 Xbox Wire post says the update started rolling out to Xbox Insiders, with most features going first to Alpha Skip-Ahead and Alpha members. The post does not say the tile-removal control has reached every player or every console build. If the option is missing from your menu, check the following before assuming something is wrong:

We have not found an official Xbox date for general availability, so do not expect a fixed release day.

What removing the tile does and does not do

Removing the Play History tile changes only what appears in the Recent Games and Apps list on Home. Xbox’s announcement does not say that the action deletes play-history data, changes saved games, or alters your account’s activity records. Treat it as a display setting for Home, not a privacy or data-deletion control.

Background: what Play History is

Play History is a cross-device view of recent gameplay. Xbox’s August 28, 2025 Xbox Wire post said: “Your play history will now sync across devices, showing up on console and in the Xbox PC app.” That means the same history can appear on your console and on the Xbox PC app, which is why the tile is useful for some players and cluttering for others.

The 2026 change is described in Xbox Wire’s August 19, 2026 post by Alex Charters, Senior Product Manager, and Eden Marie, Principal Software Engineering Lead. The post states: “You can now remove any item in that list using the Menu button, including the Play History tile, making it easier to keep Home focused on what matters most to you.” These are Xbox’s own product descriptions; this article has not independently tested the feature on consoles.
