#1 Best Overall
- World of Warcraft Game
- Includes Expansion Packs: The Burnings Crusade, Wrath of the Lich King, Cataclysm, and Mists of Pandaria
- 30 days of free game time included
- Includes levels 1 through 90
- Subscription, Internet connection, and Battle.net registration required
This free access applies to the announced test window, not to normal Forever play after launch. Blizzard’s product information says World of Warcraft, including Forever, requires a WoW Subscription or Game Time for ongoing access.
How to install the Stress Test
- Open the Battle.net desktop app and allow it to update.
- Select World of Warcraft.
- Open the Game Version menu above the Play button.
- Under In Development, select World of Warcraft: Forever Stress Test, then choose Install.
- When the test begins, select Play and choose an available test realm.
- Create a new test character and enter the game.
Install before the start time if your connection is slow or the client needs a large update. Realm availability can change during a stress test as Blizzard balances capacity.

Your test progress will be deleted
Characters, names, and guilds created for the Stress Test are temporary. Blizzard states that all of them will be wiped when the test ends, in preparation for Name Reservations opening on October 27. Do not treat a test character, guild setup, name claim, or other progress as permanent launch progress.
Other ways to play without Game Time
| Route | Cost | Date or window | Eligibility | Installation | Progress | After the window |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Public Stress Test | No subscription or Game Time | October 19, 2026; closing time may vary | Open to anyone; no invitation or beta access | Battle.net, World of Warcraft: Forever Stress Test under In Development | Wiped after the test | Does not continue automatically |
| Invite-A-Friend Launch Code | No subscription or Game Time for the invitee during the exception | November 4–11, 2026 | Requires an eligible code from a qualifying pre-purchase | Use the normal Battle.net World of Warcraft client and the access granted by the code | Not described as a temporary test wipe | Normal subscription or Game Time requirements apply after the exception |
| Beta | Not a public no-subscription route | Last full day listed as October 21, 2026 | Requires beta access | Battle.net beta installation | Beta progress is subject to beta policies | Beta access ends; it is separate from launch access |
| Ordinary Free Trial | Free starter account | No announced Forever-specific date | Accounts without active subscription or recurring Game Time revert to the general trial | Standard World of Warcraft client | Trial restrictions apply | Playable content is through level 20; Blizzard has not confirmed that this grants Forever access |
Launch date and normal access
World of Warcraft: Forever launches globally on November 4, 2026 at 3:00 p.m. PST, according to Blizzard. Forever access is included with an existing World of Warcraft Subscription or Game Time. The October 19 test is therefore a preview opportunity, not a permanent free edition.
Invite-A-Friend exception
From November 4 through November 11, an eligible Invite-A-Friend Launch Code tied to a qualifying pre-purchase can let an invited player enter without a subscription or Game Time. This is a separate limited launch-week offer, and it depends on receiving a qualifying code; it is not the same as the public Stress Test.
What to do before October 19
- Install or update the Battle.net desktop app.
- Check that World of Warcraft appears in your account’s game list.
- Look for the Forever Stress Test entry under In Development before the test opens.
- Plan around your region’s listed start time, remembering that the end time is flexible.
- Keep expectations temporary: every test character, name, and guild will be removed afterward.
Can the standard level-20 trial be used for Forever?
Blizzard’s general Free Trial allows accounts without active subscription or recurring Game Time to play through level 20. The published trial information does not confirm Forever access through that ordinary starter-account system. The confirmed no-subscription opportunities are the October 19 Stress Test and, for eligible invitees, the November 4–11 Launch Code window.
