You farm it by defeating Horace, sending him back in with the Moxxi Big Encore machine, and repeating the fight until the rifle drops. Every attempt is a chance roll, not a guaranteed reward, and no reliable current drop rate has been published.
What you need before you start
- A copy of Borderlands 4. Aegon’s Dream is in-game loot, so the rifle is not sold separately and no accessory, consumable or repair item is needed for the farm.
- Progress far enough to reach the early main mission “Down and Outbound.” According to PC Gamer (Rory Norris, September 22, 2025), Horace becomes available during that mission.
How to get Aegon’s Dream
- Progress through the main mission “Down and Outbound” until Horace is unlocked.
- Travel to Horace’s Oversight in the Hungering Plains region of the Fadefields and defeat Horace. PC Gamer identifies this encounter as the source of the rifle.
- Use the Moxxi Big Encore machine to bring Horace back for another fight. PC Gamer describes this as the way to repeat the boss, and Mobalytics (updated September 19, 2025) describes the same Encore-machine loop.
- Repeat steps 2 and 3 until Aegon’s Dream drops.
The sources do not give an exact menu path for the Encore machine, so follow the in-game prompts for it at the Moxxi location where it is available.
How many runs it takes
No reliable current drop percentage has been established, and neither PC Gamer nor Mobalytics gives a kill count. The sources also do not say whether the odds differ by difficulty or game version. Plan your farming by session length rather than by a fixed number of runs, and treat each Horace kill as a fresh attempt.
What the rifle does
Aegon’s Dream is a legendary Vladof assault rifle with the unique “Prophetic” perk and an extra barrel. It fires fire and ice projectiles. PC Gamer reports that cryo is useful against armored targets and fire is useful against unarmored flesh, so you can switch the element’s role depending on what you are fighting.
Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteWindows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread

Mobalytics describes the second barrel as something that can increase the rifle’s firing pace and says the weapon alternates Incendiary and Cryo damage. The two guides word the firing pattern differently. The shared point is the two elemental damage types. For the exact shot-by-shot behavior, check the rifle’s in-game item card.
Choosing a roll: manufacturer parts
Aegon’s Dream can roll with different manufacturer parts. PC Gamer gives two examples, but it does not establish a single best roll, so compare parts by what you need from the weapon.
Rank #2
| Part example (PC Gamer) | Reported effect | Intended use |
|---|---|---|
| Torgue stickies | Not stated in the source | Not stated in the source |
| CoV part | Increases magazine size | Sustained fire and mobbing, where fewer reloads matter more than burst damage on a single target |
If you are farming for boss damage, weigh a part’s effect against the rifle’s base damage. If you are using the rifle for crowds, the magazine-size part is the example the sources give for that trade-off.

October 23, 2025 damage increase
Borderlands Support’s official update notes for October 23, 2025 state: “Aegon’s Dream base damage increased by 35%.” The notes were published October 14, 2025 and the page was updated July 2, 2026. This is a dated patch adjustment. The notes do not establish whether later patches changed the rifle again, so check the current official patch notes before relying on any damage comparison.

Rush the Gate Wildcard reward (historical)
Borderlands Support’s weekly notes list “Rush the Gate,” held December 18–24, 2025, with Aegon’s Dream as its Legendary reward. Those Wildcard missions guaranteed a Legendary reward that could be repeated to seek an ideal roll. That activity window has ended, and weekly rotations change, so this is not a current farming route.
