It sends viewers to selected YouTube content after your stream ends. For a handoff between Twitch channels, Twitch Raids are the closest documented same-platform alternative; neither feature is documented as an automatic route from YouTube to an external stream.
What YouTube Live Redirect does—and where it sends viewers
YouTube Live Redirect is a post-stream handoff: when your live stream ends, autoplay can move viewers to a selected YouTube Premiere or live stream. YouTube’s current Help page says a creator sending a redirect must have more than 1,000 subscribers and no Community Guideline strikes. If the destination is on another channel, that channel must permit redirects.
YouTube’s announcement describes eligible destinations as active or upcoming live streams and upcoming Premieres, subject to destination-channel permission. That is not a documented way to send viewers to an arbitrary external platform or guarantee they will land on a perpetually available stream. YouTube’s feature description says: “Once your live stream ends, autoplay will move your viewers to the Premiere or live stream of your choice.” YouTube Help: Live Redirect · YouTube’s Live Redirect announcement

Set up a YouTube Live Redirect
- Check eligibility. The channel sending the redirect needs more than 1,000 subscribers and no Community Guideline strikes, according to YouTube’s current Help page.
- Confirm destination permission. If the destination belongs to another channel, ask that channel to allow your redirect. YouTube says recipients can allow channels they subscribe to, allow all channels, or manually approve specific channels; the manual list can include up to 100 channels.
- Prepare the destination. Choose an eligible YouTube live stream or Premiere. YouTube recommends preparing the Premiere before starting the source stream.
- Open the source live video in YouTube Studio. Edit its Customization settings, add a Redirect, and select the Premiere or another channel’s live stream.
- End the source stream. YouTube says autoplay moves viewers to the selected destination after the stream ends. Tell viewers in advance that their screens may take a few seconds to reload.
The destination’s permission settings affect whether it is available to select. YouTube’s account interface and eligibility can change; check the current Studio controls and Help page if a destination does not appear.
Start a Twitch Raid instead
Use a Raid when your source and recipient are both Twitch channels and you want Twitch’s documented viewer handoff. Twitch Help describes two ways to start one:

Twitch documents a countdown before the Raid begins, giving viewers a chance to opt out. The Raid sends viewers connected to chat at that moment to the recipient channel. It is not a cross-platform redirect to or from YouTube.

What to do when the handoff does not work
- Your YouTube destination is missing: check whether the destination channel allows redirects and whether the selected item is an eligible live stream or Premiere. The recipient can restrict access to subscribed channels or a manually approved list.
- You cannot send a YouTube Redirect: verify that the sending channel has more than 1,000 subscribers and no Community Guideline strikes.
- Viewers do not appear to move immediately: YouTube advises that screens may need a few seconds to reload after the source stream ends. Let viewers know before ending the stream.
- Your Twitch Raid does not bring every viewer: Twitch’s description covers viewers connected to chat when the Raid starts, and viewers get an opportunity to opt out during the countdown.
- You need to reach viewers on a different platform: the cited official feature documentation does not establish an automatic cross-platform route. Post or announce the destination link yourself, and distinguish that manual instruction from a native redirect.
