Roblox banned creator Schlep’s accounts in August 2025 over investigative methods the company said violated its rules and could put users at risk. In November, Schlep said Roblox Chief Systems Officer Matt Kaufman invited him to discuss a way to remain active in the Roblox community; Schlep declined. The reported email was an invitation to talk, not confirmation that Roblox lifted the ban or reinstated his accounts.
What happened to Schlep on Roblox?
Roblox banned Schlep’s accounts in August 2025 and sent him a cease-and-desist letter, according to WIRED. Roblox said its action concerned the methods used by vigilantes investigating suspected offenders, while Schlep disputed the company’s characterization of his work.
In November 2025, Schlep said he received an email from Chief Systems Officer Matt Kaufman proposing a conversation about whether he could remain active in the Roblox community. Dexerto quoted the email: “Would you be up for a conversation to see if there’s some way we can keep you active in the Roblox community?” Schlep said he declined, saying, “I will not trade my voice for a few Roblox accounts.”
Why did Roblox ban Schlep?
Roblox said some vigilante groups had gone beyond reporting concerns: the company said they impersonated children, approached adults, encouraged off-platform contact, or delayed reports until after real-life meetups or social-media posts. Roblox argued that such conduct can put users at risk and interfere with safety procedures. These are the company’s stated reasons; they do not independently establish that every allegation applied to Schlep.

Schlep disputed Roblox’s account. WIRED reported that he said his team used newly created decoy identities run by adults, rather than impersonating real children, and that he denied wrongdoing. He has also criticized Roblox’s handling of evidence he said he provided. Those claims are Schlep’s account, not independently verified findings.

Platform reporting and independent investigations
The dispute is about more than whether suspected predators should be investigated. It also raises questions about who should gather evidence, how quickly it should reach the platform and law enforcement, and whether public confrontations or off-platform contact can create additional risks.
| Approach | What it involves | Key consideration |
|---|---|---|
| Platform-led reporting | Report suspicious behavior through Roblox’s in-platform tools, with specific information, as Roblox recommends. | Roblox says its tools preserve evidence and context for review. Schlep has criticized the company’s response to evidence he says he reported. |
| Independent decoy investigations | Private individuals investigate suspected offenders and may expose findings publicly. | Methods, evidence, and conclusions need careful scrutiny; Roblox says some vigilante tactics can expose users to risk or delay reports. |
Neither the company’s explanation nor Schlep’s response should be treated as a criminal finding. WIRED reported on November 25, 2025, that Schlep’s team claimed six people had been arrested following its stings; WIRED also reported that none of those six had been convicted at the time of publication. That is a report of the case status then, not an update on current proceedings.
