On March 22, 2016, Hamburg-based Bigpoint announced an agreement to be acquired by China’s Youzu Interactive. GamesBeat reported the deal at up to €80 million, or $89.68 million—rounded to $89.7 million in the original headline. Bigpoint said the agreement covered 100% of the company, but the announcement’s expected April closing was a forecast, not confirmation that the transaction closed on that date.
How much did Youzu agree to pay for Bigpoint?
GamesBeat reported consideration of up to €80 million ($89.68 million). The “up to” qualification matters: it is the figure reported by GamesBeat, not a price disclosed in Bigpoint’s announcement. Game Developer described the fee as undisclosed in its account. The $89.7 million figure is a rounded version of GamesBeat’s dollar conversion, rather than a separately confirmed amount. GamesBeat, March 22, 2016; Game Developer, 2016.
When was the acquisition announced, and when was it expected to close?
Bigpoint announced the agreement on March 22, 2016, and said it expected completion in April. Contemporary reporting noted that regulatory or Chinese acquisition processes remained to be completed. The announcement and reports establish the proposed timetable, but do not independently confirm the actual closing date or Bigpoint’s present-day ownership. What did the announcement say would happen to Bigpoint?
Bigpoint said Youzu would acquire 100% of the company and that the Bigpoint brand would continue. It also said the company planned to keep developing and supporting its existing games and projects. Those were commitments in the announcement about the intended transition; they do not, by themselves, establish what happened to each game or the brand afterward.

He said the collaboration would focus on “the quality of titles published” and called the goal “Great gaming for everybody.” These were Helioui’s statements about the deal’s aims, not independent findings about its results. What was the strategic rationale?
The companies presented the agreement as a way to broaden their global online and mobile games presence. Bigpoint’s announcement described the combined companies’ intended reach as “over 200 countries”; that is company language about the planned market footprint, not an independently measured result.
Game Developer reported that Bigpoint’s planned launch of Hocus Puzzle was to receive a worldwide marketing budget exceeding €30 million ($33.7 million). This, too, was a contemporaneous plan rather than evidence of a later spend or outcome. The proposed deal’s strategic pitch was therefore about distribution and investment, alongside continuity for Bigpoint’s existing projects—not a documented account of what the companies ultimately delivered.
