The most practical order for a first story playthrough of The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom on Nintendo Switch runs Suthorn Ruins, then Gerudo Sanctum and Jabul Ruins in either order, then Hyrule Castle, then Eldin Temple, Lanayru Temple and Faron Temple in any order, with the Eternal Forest and endgame last. Nintendo Life’s walkthrough recommends Gerudo before Jabul and Eldin, then Hebra, then Faron for the later trio. That is a publisher-guide suggestion, not a fixed or developer-designated sequence, and the reasons behind it are covered below.
Spoiler note before the route
The route names later regions and dungeons, which reveals story progression. Nintendo Life’s walkthrough hub warns that its coverage contains spoilers in general, while its region-order guide describes its own spoilers as light and mostly limited to main-quest names. If you want to keep the story unspoiled, read only the first stage below.

The recommended route at a glance
| Stage | What you do | Order rules |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Opening and Suthorn | Follow the prologue, escape Hyrule Castle, explore the Suthorn area and clear Suthorn Ruins, the introductory dungeon | Fixed |
| 2. Early regional pair | Gerudo Desert with Gerudo Sanctum; Jabul Waters with Jabul Ruins | Either order. Gerudo first is the recommendation |
| 3. Hyrule Castle section | Save the king and the town; clear Hyrule Castle Town and Hyrule Castle | Fixed central gate |
| 4. Later regional trio | Eldin (Eldin Temple in the volcano); Hebra (leads to Lanayru Temple); Faron (Faron Temple) | Any order. Eldin, Hebra, Faron is the recommendation |
| 5. Endgame | Eternal Forest, Stilled Ancient Ruins, Null’s Body and the final boss | Follows the regional dungeons |
Stage-by-stage story route
- Opening and Suthorn region. Follow the prologue, escape Hyrule Castle, explore the Suthorn area and complete Suthorn Ruins. Nintendo Life’s walkthrough hub presents this section as the one that introduces the game and its systems.
- Gerudo Desert or Jabul Waters. Both open as story destinations after Suthorn. Nintendo Life recommends Gerudo Desert first, followed by Jabul Waters, but states that either can be done first. Gerudo’s route includes Gerudo Sanctum; Jabul’s route includes Jabul Ruins.
- Hyrule Castle. After both early regional quests, the story returns to Hyrule to save the king and the town. Complete Hyrule Castle Town and then Hyrule Castle. This is the gate that opens the later regions.
- Eldin, Hebra and Faron. These three regional quests open after the Hyrule Castle section and can be tackled in any order. For a first playthrough, the suggested order is Eldin, then Hebra, then Faron. Eldin Temple sits inside the volcano, the Hebra route leads to Lanayru Temple, and Faron contains Faron Temple.
- Endgame. After the regional dungeons, the walkthrough places the Eternal Forest, the Stilled Ancient Ruins, Null’s Body and the final boss.
Why the suggested order works
Nintendo Life’s reasons for its suggestions are practical rather than story-based. Each one applies only if you follow that particular choice.
- Gerudo before Jabul. The guide describes Gerudo as geographically closer to Suthorn and says its region provides the Platboom Echo, which it calls useful for traversal. Jabul also offers a traversal Echo, Water Block, but the guide still prefers Platboom early.
- Eldin before Hebra and Faron. The guide says the fire-based Echoes gained in Eldin help in both later regions.
- Faron last. The guide describes Faron’s enemies as the more dangerous group and suggests building up hearts in the other regions first.
Choosing between valid orders
Because the early pair and the later trio are both open-ended, you can reorder them. Compare the options on these four points:
#1 Best Overall
- Traversal utility. Getting Platboom early helps with exploration, which is why Gerudo first is the default.
- Useful Echo carryover. Fire-based Echoes from Eldin apply to the next region you pick, so Eldin early makes Hebra and Faron easier.
- Combat readiness. If you want more hearts before Faron’s tougher enemies, finish the other two regions first.
- Collectible efficiency. Regions that have not yet opened their story rifts can be visited later, so their rift-related collectibles are handled in the same visit as the story.
No single route is objectively best for every player. If you prefer exploration or a different difficulty curve, swap regions freely; the suggested order is a sensible default, not a lock.
Exploration versus story access
You can explore the wider world before the later quests appear, but those regions will not yet have their story rifts. Nintendo Life recommends visiting them in the second half of the game, so you can address the rifts and their collectibles in one pass.
