What changed in the Bombchu Bowling Alley
Screenshots of the remake’s Bombchu Bowling Alley operator began circulating on October 14, 2026, according to Dexerto. Her short blue hair remains the clearest link to the N64 character, while the remake gives her a pink crop top and a much more fully modeled appearance.

The new image also makes small details easier to see, including black nail polish. Those additions are exactly what some players are celebrating: the character is immediately identifiable, yet no longer limited by the deliberately rough geometry and textures of the original Nintendo 64 model.

Players who prefer the remake model
Positive reactions focus on the return of a memorable NPC and the care put into details that were barely visible in the original. For these fans, the updated clothing, hands and face make the operator feel like a proper character rather than a low-polygon background figure.

Players who prefer the N64 version
Other commenters say the original’s exaggerated silhouette and expression were more distinctive. Dexerto quoted one reaction: “How tf does the N64 version made in 1998 look better???!!” Another called the remake model acceptable but said it had the same “puppet look” they see in the remake’s Link, adding that it was “Not my favorite style, but I don’t hate it.”
Some social posts also described the remake version as “nerfed.” Those comments show a preference for the odd proportions and instantly readable personality of the N64 design, not a measured consensus. The available reactions are attributed posts rather than a representative fan survey, so they cannot establish how the wider audience feels.

What the redesign says about the remake
The operator is part of a broader visual change rather than an isolated costume update. GamesRadar’s hands-on preview describes a remake that keeps the original’s broad-stroke palette while rebuilding environments, lighting and character presentation. Familiar locations remain recognizable, but softer surfaces and more detailed models give Hyrule a different visual feel.
That approach explains why the Bombchu Bowling discussion is about more than one NPC. Players are judging whether the remake’s smoother presentation can retain the strange, memorable designs that helped the N64 game stand out. A model can be technically richer and still feel less expressive to someone attached to the original’s angular exaggeration.

At the same time, the revealed operator does not discard every identifying feature. The blue hair, recognizable role and bold clothing cue remain, making this a reinterpretation of the character rather than a replacement with an unrelated design.
Release date and Nintendo’s other announcements
Nintendo’s remake is reported to launch on November 5, 2026, for Nintendo Switch 2. Tom’s Guide’s recap of the Nintendo Direct also reported a limited-edition Zelda-themed Switch 2 console and two new amiibo: one for Link and one for Zelda.

The release date and hardware details come from that Direct coverage and should be checked again near launch for final regional availability, retailer stock and the exact amiibo product information. The Bombchu Bowling screenshots establish the character’s new look, but they do not by themselves confirm that every NPC in the game will receive the same degree of redesign.

Are the N64 game’s unusual NPC designs being kept?
The evidence so far points to familiar characters being rebuilt within a softer, more detailed visual style, not to a shot-for-shot preservation of every old model. The Bombchu operator still has recognizable hair and personality cues, while her proportions, materials and facial presentation have changed enough to trigger debate.

That means the remake appears to be preserving the world’s identity through locations, palette and character recognition while allowing individual models to be substantially reinterpreted. Whether that balance works will remain subjective until players can see the full cast and experience the scenes in motion.
