The project’s name, publisher, platforms, genre and cancellation reason have not been publicly disclosed.
What happened to Kotaro Uchikoshi’s new game?
Uchikoshi, the creator and director associated with Zero Escape and the director and scenario writer known for AI: The Somnium Files, said his team’s latest project was canceled after about 18 months of development. In a public statement reported by Gematsu on October 14, 2026, he wrote: “Because the game our whole team had poured our hearts and souls into for about a year and a half was suddenly canceled…!!”

The cancellation was not announced with a game title, trailer or platform information. Neither Gematsu’s report nor the contemporaneous coverage identifies the publisher, budget, genre or reason for the decision. Those details remain unverified, so the canceled project should not be described as a new Zero Escape game.
Why did the cancellation reveal CRASH KEYS early?
Uchikoshi said he founded CRASH KEYS in March 2025. His original plan was to reveal the studio at the same time as the new game, with that joint announcement scheduled for 2027. The project’s cancellation removed that planned launch point, so he disclosed the company earlier while seeking new work and investment.

“My original plan was to reveal CRASH KEYS when we announced our new game. That was supposed to happen next year… in 2027,” Uchikoshi said in the statement reproduced by Gematsu. The early announcement therefore serves two purposes: it introduces the studio and publicly signals that its team is available for projects and financial backing.
What is CRASH KEYS?
CRASH KEYS’ October 15, 2026 company press release describes a studio built around game development, game direction and narrative writing. It also lists planning and scripting work for film and anime, indicating that the company is intended to operate across interactive and screen storytelling rather than as a single-game label.

Is this a new Zero Escape game?
There is no public confirmation that the canceled project was a Zero Escape sequel, remake or spin-off. Uchikoshi’s association with that series explains why fans are watching the announcement, but it does not identify the project. Fan theories, ARG interpretations and references inferred from earlier games are speculation, not established information.

What this means for Uchikoshi’s next project
The immediate consequence is that CRASH KEYS is public without the game that was supposed to introduce it. That makes the studio’s future dependent on new commissions, partners or investors rather than on a disclosed launch title. The announcement confirms Uchikoshi’s creative scope and the team’s recent development experience, but it offers no release date, platform commitment or product roadmap.

For players, the reliable takeaway is limited but significant: an unnamed Uchikoshi-led project ended after approximately 18 months, and a new studio formed in March 2025 is now openly seeking opportunities. Until CRASH KEYS or a publisher names a project, any claim about a new Zero Escape, AI: The Somnium Files or The Hundred Line game goes beyond the available information.
