If ZERO Sievert is crashing on PC, start with the low-risk checks: update the game and Steam, restart your PC, and verify the game files. Then test without mods or non-essential background apps. Match the next step to the symptom: try borderless fullscreen for crashes or problems after alt-tabbing, and check the game’s patch notes if a specific crash bug may have been fixed. None of these steps is a guaranteed fix for every system; if the crash continues, preserve your saves, collect a log, and report the details to the developers.

Update ZERO Sievert and Steam, then restart

Verify the installed game files
In Steam, open Library, right-click ZERO Sievert, choose Properties, then Installed Files and Verify integrity of game files. Steam recommends file verification for games that crash. Check Windows and graphics-driver updates
Steam includes operating-system and driver updates among its general launch troubleshooting steps. Check Windows Update and get graphics drivers from your GPU manufacturer, then retest. This is a general diagnostic step, not a guaranteed ZERO Sievert fix or a reason by itself to replace hardware.

There is also a game-specific update worth knowing about: the developers said the September 9, 2026 Overload Update moved the game to a newer runtime with additional tweaks intended to address crashes some players experienced with an NVIDIA driver issue. Test an unmodded launch
If you use mods, try launching without them and see whether the crash is reproducible. This is a way to narrow down the cause, not proof that a mod is responsible. The developers ask players to include mod status when reporting technical problems.

Temporarily close non-essential background software
Close non-essential apps that may interfere with launching or running the game, then test again. Treat this as a reversible check; it is not a recommendation to broadly disable security software.

Use borderless fullscreen if alt-tabbing triggers the problem
If the crash or instability happens when you switch out of the game and back, try enabling borderless fullscreen in the game’s display settings. The developers say the option was added and enabled by default on fresh installations, and advise existing users with alt-tab issues to turn it on. Preserve your saves, collect a log, and report persistent crashes
Before changing game data, back up your saves. The developer FAQ explains save and backup locations and how to create a debug log: add
-log_to_fileas a launch option. The FAQ says the resulting log is saved underC:/Users/<Username>/AppData/Local/ZERO_Sievert/<Steam User ID>/. Developer FAQFor a report, include the game version or branch, whether mods are enabled, what you were doing when it crashed, clear steps to reproduce the problem, your PC specifications, and the log if available. Choose the next step by when the crash happens
- Game will not launch: update and restart, verify the files, then test with non-essential background software closed.
- Crash during a run: note what happened immediately beforehand, test without mods, and capture a log if the crash persists.
- Crash or instability after alt-tabbing: try borderless fullscreen.
- Crash on death: check that the game is updated. An official April 23 hotfix says it fixed a crash on death; that note applies to that specific bug, not crashes generally. ZERO Sievert announcements
What not to do first
Do not delete save files or the local game folder as a routine first step. The available developer guidance explains how to back up saves and collect logs, but does not establish deletion as a universal fix. Preserve your data and use the less disruptive checks before considering changes to game files.
