Zila Gular is a niche Warlock trinket in WoW Classic: Season of Discovery, discussed mainly for Affliction builds. It is not a universal best-in-slot item. For most Affliction Warlocks it is worth pursuing only when your build pairs with its effect and you can tolerate a random, time-consuming farm. Phase-specific guidance changes quickly in Season of Discovery, so check the current phase before committing hours to it.
What Zila Gular is
Zila Gular is an in-game trinket that Season of Discovery Warlocks discuss in the context of their gear and build choices, with Affliction receiving most of the attention. Its value depends on how it interacts with your talents, runes and the other gear you can realistically obtain, so it is better judged as a build decision than as a simple upgrade.
The item is connected to the Explorer Imp, a Warlock companion. Warcraft Tavern’s Explorer Imp guide describes the Imp as introduced in Season of Discovery Phase 3 and lists Zila Gular among the rewards tied to portal-related content. Treat that as the item’s documented source at the time the guide was written; the portal systems have changed since then in ways the guide cannot confirm for today’s realm.
How players have described obtaining it
The most detailed player-side account is a 2024 discussion on Blizzard’s own forums. Participants described three recurring frustrations: limited access to the portal content, random rewards, and a grind that felt long relative to the payoff. That thread is a record of player experience and opinion from 2024. It is not confirmation of the current loot table, the current portal steps, or how often the item drops.

Several things are therefore not established by the sources available for this article:
- Drop rates. Forum posts cite percentages, but none has been verified against an authoritative source. Treat any specific odds you see in old threads as unverified player claims.
- Damage or performance numbers. Estimates shared by players have not been independently measured, so they should not be used to compare the trinket against alternatives.
- Current portal mechanics. The steps and reward structure described by players in 2024 may no longer match your phase or server.
Because of these gaps, the reliable part of the picture is the general shape of the farm: it runs through portal content, the rewards are random, and it takes sustained time. Confirm the exact access route in your client and in a guide dated to your current phase before planning around it.

Is it worth farming for Affliction?
Judge the trinket on three axes. The table below sets out what should push you toward or away from the farm.

Wowhead’s Phase 8 pre-raid gear guide labels Zila Gular “Niche” and says it can influence Affliction gameplay when paired with Everlasting Affliction. That is specific guidance for one phase and one build. Without that pairing, the case for farming it is much weaker, and the guide itself does not present it as a default choice.

Alternatives in your phase
Phase 8 is the phase the cited guide covers. Check the gear guide for your current phase before deciding, because other equipment may be preferable depending on your character and what is available to you at that time.
Your tolerance for a random farm
The farm is random and time-consuming by player accounts. If you would rather not spend repeated sessions chasing a single uncertain reward, a deterministic upgrade path is the better choice even if the trinket has a slightly higher ceiling on paper.

Practical checklist before you start
- Confirm your spec is Affliction and that you plan to use Everlasting Affliction.
- Read a gear guide dated to your current phase and compare Zila Gular with the trinkets it lists for your slot.
- Check the Explorer Imp and portal access in your own client, since the 2024 forum accounts may not match current access.
- Set a session limit in advance. Stop and reassess if the farm is consuming time you planned for raiding.
For most Affliction Warlocks, the trinket is an optional, build-dependent piece rather than a required target.
