1. Katamari Damacy REROLL — surreal mechanics
The King of All Cosmos accidentally destroys the stars, then orders his son to roll a katamari and restore them. 3. Baba Is You — puzzles built from their own rules
This is a good fit if the oddness you want is intellectual: the rules of a puzzle are represented by words you can move around. Rearranging those words can change what objects are, what they do, or what counts as winning. The central pleasure is not merely finding a route through a level, but realizing the route may depend on rewriting the level’s logic.

4. The Stanley Parable: Ultra Deluxe — a narrator that reacts to disobedience
Stanley is an office worker guided by a narrator, but following or ignoring that guidance repeatedly unsettles the expected story and its endings. The game’s unusual hook is the tension between what the narration says and what you decide to do; its developer describes it as a game that “plays you.” Ultra Deluxe is an expanded re-imagining with new content. 5. Her Story — a mystery assembled from fragments
Rather than presenting a mystery as a straightforward sequence of scenes, Her Story asks you to search through video interview clips and work out how they fit together. The unusual part is the investigative rhythm: you choose what to look for, and the story emerges from the fragments you find and connect. It suits players who enjoy uncertainty and interpretation more than being led through a fixed chain of revelations.

7. What Remains of Edith Finch — a family history told in shifting forms
Annapurna describes this as a collection of strange tales about a Washington family. Each story follows a different Finch family member on the day of their death, and the stories use distinct mechanics rather than one repeated mode of play. Creative director Ian Dallas put the premise this way: “The short version is easy. 8. Untitled Goose Game — petty chaos in a peaceful village
House House’s pitch says it neatly: “It’s a lovely morning in the village, and you are a horrible goose.” You play the goose, turning small acts of mischief into the main event. 9. Goat Simulator 3 — a sandbox built for intentional chaos
Coffee Stain describes Goat Simulator 3 as a third-person sandbox adventure in which you become a literal goat. Its intentionally chaotic activities and four-player co-op make it the pick for players who want to fool around rather than follow a tightly controlled story. 10. Death Stranding — a genre-blending journey through a metaphysical mystery
Death Stranding mixes open-world action adventure with cinematic storytelling, metaphysical mystery, and a focus on emotional connection.
