Some games became inseparable from the YouTube videos, reactions, and fan communities built around them. Minecraft is the clearest documented example in the sources available here; horror games such as Five Nights at Freddy’s, Amnesia: The Dark Descent, and Slender: The Eight Pages also have well-documented ties to Let’s Play culture. This is an editorial selection of ten games with notable creator connections—not a proven ranking, and not a claim that YouTubers alone made any game successful.
How this list is selected
The games below are included because sources connect them to YouTube gaming culture through Let’s Plays, creator communities, platform recaps, or creator-led events. The evidence is strongest for historical association, not proof that videos caused sales or overall fame. Entries are grouped by the kind of connection documented; their order is not a ranking of quality or popularity. Current prices and platform availability are not compared here.

Games with a strong YouTube culture connection
1. Minecraft
Minecraft is the strongest quantified example in this list. Guinness World Records, citing Let’s Play Index data, recorded 1,913,742 YouTube videos about the game and 366,854,694,616 cumulative views as of 14 October 2020. Those figures are a dated snapshot, not a current count or a measure of sales. YouTube’s 2020 gaming recap also reported that creator Dream’s channel grew from 1 million subscribers in January 2020 to more than 13 million by October. The recap connects Dream’s rise with the platform’s gaming year; it does not measure the effect on game sales. Guinness World Records’ YouTube record · YouTube’s 2020 gaming recap
The creator connection sits alongside a game built around player-made worlds and sharing. In a 2013 TIME profile, creator Markus Persson described his design motivation: “I designed the game for myself-that’s an audience I know,” he said. That comment speaks to the game’s origins, not to YouTube causing its popularity. TIME’s profile of Minecraft

2. Five Nights at Freddy’s
Five Nights at Freddy’s is a clear example of horror-game viewing culture: academic work examines its relationship with creator gameplay, lore videos, fan media, and online personas. That supports its place among games closely associated with YouTube creators, but does not establish a comparative popularity rank or prove creators caused the game’s success. 3. Amnesia: The Dark Descent
Amnesia: The Dark Descent (2010) appears in peer-reviewed discussion of horror games associated with famous game streamers and Let’s Play videos. The connection is especially apt for a game whose scares and reactions lend themselves to watched playthroughs. The cited work supports association with creator culture, not a claim that YouTube alone made the game famous. Persona Studies article on horror games and YouTube personas

What the historical YouTube numbers do—and do not—show
Platform activity is not the same as game sales
YouTube reported 100 billion hours of YouTube Gaming watch time in 2020. Separately, The Guardian reported that Minecraft videos received more than 3.9 billion views on YouTube in March 2015. These figures describe different measures—watch time across YouTube Gaming and views for Minecraft videos in one month—and neither establishes a sales effect. They should not be read as current audience totals. YouTube’s 2020 gaming recap · The Guardian’s 2015 report

The four games below complete a broader editorial list of titles whose visibility or community is often discussed in relation to online creator culture, but the sources cited in this article do not establish a title-specific YouTube connection for them. They are not presented as evidence-backed examples of YouTubers causing a game’s fame.

8. Roblox
Roblox is a platform built around user-created experiences, making creator-led discovery a natural fit. This list does not provide a source establishing a measured YouTube effect on its popularity.
9. Fortnite
Fortnite combines competitive matches and frequent in-game changes that can generate recurring video topics. Its inclusion here is editorial; the sources cited above do not quantify YouTube’s contribution to its overall success.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems10. The Sims 4
The Sims 4 supports player-made stories and builds that can be shared as videos. That makes it a plausible creator-culture pick, but the evidence in this article does not establish that YouTube made it famous.
How to read “made famous by YouTubers”
The phrase is best understood as shorthand for a visible relationship between games and creator culture, not a proven cause-and-effect claim. A game can attract videos because it is already popular, become more visible through creators, or develop a community that participates in both playing and watching. The historical examples here show why those relationships matter, while also showing why video counts, watch time, subscriptions, and sales should not be treated as interchangeable measures.
