There is no verified, universal top ten of Terraria mods: the right picks depend on whether you want a larger adventure, convenience, or a different challenge—and whether each mod supports your version of tModLoader. The available current-source evidence confirms Thorium and Fargo’s Mutant Mod as candidates, but does not establish enough about ten mods’ features and compatibility to rank them responsibly. Use the checks below to build a list that fits your setup rather than trusting an unverified “best of all time” ranking.
Start with tModLoader, not a list of mod names
tModLoader is the framework used to load Terraria mods. The official Steam listing describes it as a separate installation from Terraria and identifies both Steam Workshop support and an in-game mod browser. That means Workshop is not the only discovery route. See the official tModLoader Steam listing for the current installation and compatibility notes.

The same listing cautions that mods may not all be updated for newer Terraria versions. Treat compatibility as something to confirm for your own installed tModLoader version, not as a permanent property of a mod’s name.
Two candidates with surfaced source evidence
Thorium
Thorium is named on the tModLoader Steam Workshop, which makes its Workshop page a sensible place to inspect current details. The available evidence does not establish its present feature set, supported versions, or compatibility requirements, so check the creator’s current listing before choosing it.
#1 Best Overall
- Build up a hospital from nothing to a masterpiece as you design the most beautiful – or functional – healthcare operation in the whole of Two Point County.
- Optimise your hospital design to increase patient (and cash) flow, arranging corridors, rooms and waiting areas to your exact specifications.
- Expand your hospital to multiple buildings as you look to get as many patients through the door as possible.
- Place decorative and functional items around your hospital to improve its prestige, lower patient boredom, increase happiness and keep those end of year awards flowing in.
- Features two great expansions, 21 hospitals and 119 very unusual illnesses!
Fargo’s Mutant Mod
A surfaced Workshop listing for Fargo’s Mutant Mod included tModLoader 1.4.3 and 1.4.4 in its metadata. Those labels document that listing at the time reflected by the search; they do not guarantee support for a newer Terraria or tModLoader release. Confirm the current Workshop metadata and description before installing.
How to choose mods for the experience you want
Use the mod’s current creator description to decide which of these broad roles it fills. These are selection criteria, not claims that every named candidate offers a particular feature.

Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Treat major overhauls as separate playthrough choices unless a current compatibility listing or patch specifically supports combining them.
- Quality-of-life change: Look for a focused convenience improvement if you want to preserve the core adventure while reducing friction.
- Utility: Check whether a tool or supporting mod solves a specific need, and whether it requires another mod to function.
- Changed play style or challenge: Read the description for the intended rules, difficulty changes, or specialized experience; do not infer these from a mod’s popularity or name.
Calamity, quality-of-life mods, and utility mods surfaced as possible search leads, but that alone does not verify their current features, version support, or suitability for a ranked list.

Verify a mod before adding it
- Open the current mod page. Use the tModLoader Workshop or in-game browser. The Workshop provides discovery categories and curated selections, and its listing includes named mods such as Thorium.
- Match the version labels. Compare the mod’s stated Terraria or tModLoader compatibility with the version you actually have installed. Do not treat an older version label as evidence of newer support.
- Read requirements and caveats. Check for required libraries, companion mods, compatibility patches, known conflicts, and creator instructions.
- Choose by purpose. Confirm from the creator’s description whether the mod is an overhaul, a smaller add-on, a utility, or a change to a particular play style.
- Add cautiously. If you are combining large overhauls, install only combinations whose current pages or patches explicitly address compatibility. The general compatibility warning does not establish that major mods work together.
The tModLoader Steam Workshop is useful for checking live discovery categories and current mod listings. For general setup guidance, consult the tModLoader getting-started page.
Why this is not a defensible ten-mod ranking
A ten-entry “best of all time” list needs current primary-page evidence for each mod’s purpose, supported version, and compatibility caveats. The sources available here establish the install and discovery route, name Thorium, and provide version metadata for one Fargo’s Mutant Mod listing; they do not verify those details for ten individual mods. Popularity alone would not resolve that gap or prove a consensus ranking.
So use the Workshop and browser to complete the checks above, and treat any list—including this one—as a starting point to validate, not a promise that every entry works with every setup.
