They balance movement, weapon handling, team recovery, and crowd control; they are recommendations, not a tested universal ranking.
How Augment research and slots work
Augment Research unlocks at Player Level 11. In the menu, choose a research path for a Perk-a-Cola, Ammo Mod, or Field Upgrade, then earn in-game XP toward its unlocks. Each item has three Major and three Minor Augments, and you can equip one of each. As Blizzard’s launch guide puts it, “Each item has two available Augment slots: one for a Major, and one for a Minor Augment.” Major Augments make substantial changes; Minor Augments add more limited advantages.

Blizzard listed 108 Augments available at launch — Blizzard Entertainment, 2024: 48 for eight Perk-a-Colas, 30 for five Ammo Mods, and 30 for five Field Upgrades. That is a launch-era count, not a current roster total. For example, Season 03 Reloaded later added Frost Blast, with its own Major and Minor choices; Blizzard said it could be selected in a loadout or swapped in during a match on all five Zombies maps at the time. Ten recommended Augments, in five pairs
The pairs below combine Dot Esports’ editorial recommendations with Blizzard’s effect descriptions. Choose a pair only for an item you actually use: Augments improve that perk or equipment, not your whole loadout.

Stamin-Up: Stalker and Quarterback
- Stalker (Major): Increases walking speed while aiming, helping you reposition without giving up your aim.
- Quarterback (Minor): Lets you use equipment while sprinting, so deploying it need not interrupt your movement.
Speed Cola: Classic Formula and Quick Swap
- Classic Formula (Major): Increases reload speed further, useful when reload downtime is a problem.
- Quick Swap (Minor): Speeds up weapon swaps, complementing a setup where switching weapons is part of staying ready.
Quick Revive: EMT and Karmic Return
- EMT (Major): Lets a revived ally keep all Perks on their bleed-out bar, making it a team-recovery choice.
- Karmic Return (Minor): Heals you to full health when you revive an ally.
Brain Rot: Big Game and Explosive
- Big Game (Major): Allows Brain Rot to charm elite enemies, extending its effect to a more demanding target class.
- Explosive (Minor): Charmed enemies explode at the end of Brain Rot, dealing toxic damage.
Dead Wire: Lightning Strike and Extension
- Lightning Strike (Major): Calls down a lightning bolt that stuns normal and special enemies in the area.
- Extension (Minor): Makes Dead Wire’s stun and electric-damage field last longer.

How to choose what to research first
Start with the Perk-a-Colas, Ammo Mods, and Field Upgrades you regularly equip, then use your play style to break ties. The effects above offer different kinds of utility rather than a single common measure of strength.

- When comparing effects: Consider survivability versus damage, mobility versus stationary control, Normal/Special crowd control versus Elite effects, and duration or activation reliability versus a larger single effect.
The available effect descriptions do not establish comparative win rates, DPS results, or a universal research order. Treat this list as a practical starting point and adjust it to the equipment you use and the problems you encounter.

Blizzard’s launch roster names Brain Rot, Cryo Freeze, Dead Wire, Napalm Burst, and Shadow Rift as the five initial Ammo Mods, alongside five initial Field Upgrades. Those launch lists should not be mistaken for a complete roster after updates. Frost Blast is one documented later addition: its Major choices are Ice Slick, Frost Cast, and Flash Freeze; its Minor choices are Extension, Frostbite, and Extra Charge. Blizzard’s Season 03 Reloaded announcement describes its availability across all five Zombies maps at that time.
