If your Roblox cursor escapes onto the desktop or a second monitor during first-person or Shift Lock play, start by switching from the Microsoft Store client to the website-launched desktop player. Then maximize or fullscreen Roblox and test with one monitor. If the pointer is visibly misaligned, investigate Windows high-DPI scaling. These are workarounds for several overlapping causes—not one universal Roblox bug.
The issue is especially common to troubleshoot when Roblox is windowed, the game runs across multiple displays, or Windows uses different display-scaling percentages. The Microsoft Store client has also been associated with cursor-capture reports in first-person and Shift Lock configurations.

First, identify which cursor problem you have

Test the same behavior in a normal third-person experience, a first-person or shooter-style experience, Shift Lock, right-click camera rotation, menus, and chat. Also test at least two experiences. If only one experience is affected, its camera or input implementation may be the cause rather than Windows or your Roblox installation.

Roblox’s in-experience settings include Shift Lock Switch where an experience supports it; pressing Shift toggles the camera mode. Roblox’s support documentation explains the control.
Fix 1: Use the website-launched Roblox desktop client
This is the least disruptive first test if you installed Roblox from the Microsoft Store. A Roblox Developer Forum report describes the cursor leaving the game window in the Store client during first-person or Shift Lock play, particularly when the window was not fullscreen or maximized. The reporter did not reproduce the problem with the normal website-launched client, and community replies recommended trying that version. This is a reported workaround, not a guaranteed official fix.
Be precise about the versions: Roblox’s current Microsoft Store listing is called Roblox – Windows. It replaced the older Store application and was described by Roblox as a newer, updated app. That product description does not prove that cursor capture works correctly in every configuration. Older bug reports may simply call it the “Microsoft application” or Store version.

- Close every Roblox window.
- Open the official Roblox website in a browser and sign in.
- Open an experience and click Play.
- If Windows asks which application should open the Roblox link, choose the installed Roblox desktop player.
- Retest first-person mode, Shift Lock, and windowed play.
The browser is normally only the launch point; the experience opens in the Roblox desktop player. If this solves the problem, the Store package or its interaction with your window and input setup was likely involved.
Before uninstalling anything: confirm that you know your Roblox password and can access the account’s recovery email or phone. Do not delete Roblox folders or registry entries as a first step. If the website-launched client has the same problem, continue with the display tests below.
Fix 2: Maximize Roblox and isolate the monitor problem
Windowed gameplay gives Windows a real edge through which the pointer can travel. A second display makes that boundary more complicated because Windows treats adjacent monitor edges as one desktop coordinate space. Cursor drift toward another monitor has been reported in Roblox configurations including the Store application.

Try fullscreen or a maximized window
- Join an experience.
- Press Esc and open Settings.
- Set Shift Lock Switch to On if the experience supports it.
- Use Roblox’s fullscreen control if available, or maximize the Roblox window.
- Test first-person mode or press Shift to toggle Shift Lock.
- Move the mouse firmly toward each edge and check whether the pointer remains captured.
Fullscreen can improve capture, but it does not guarantee exclusive fullscreen. Exact behavior varies by Roblox client and Windows configuration. If fullscreen causes flicker, resolution changes, or awkward Alt+Tab behavior, use a maximized window on one display instead.
Run the one-monitor diagnostic
- Press Windows + P.
- Select PC screen only.
- Refocus or relaunch Roblox and repeat the same test.
If the cursor stays contained with one display active, the likely trigger is monitor geometry, display scaling, focus handling, or client behavior—not necessarily the mouse hardware.
To restore the second display, press Windows + P and choose Extend.
Check Windows display arrangement
Open Settings > System > Display and:
- Confirm the intended main display is marked as the main display.
- Keep the Roblox window entirely on one monitor; do not span it across displays.
- Temporarily align the monitor rectangles edge-to-edge in the display diagram.
- Test with the secondary monitor disconnected or disabled.
- Note whether the displays use different resolutions, refresh rates, or scaling percentages.
Temporarily disable overlays
As a diagnostic—not a proven universal cause—disable Xbox Game Bar, Discord overlay, NVIDIA or AMD overlays, MSI Afterburner/RivaTuner, screen-recording tools, and mouse-enhancement software. An overlay can steal focus or present a pointer while Roblox is trying to capture mouse input.
Fix 3: Correct high-DPI scaling or add a cursor boundary
Option A: Try the desktop client’s high-DPI setting
Microsoft documents that games using fullscreen or raw mouse input can receive incorrectly scaled mouse coordinates when Windows and the game handle display scaling differently. That can produce a pointer that appears offset or behaves as though it is outside the expected window.

- Locate the Roblox Player shortcut or executable.
- Right-click it and select Properties.
- Open the Compatibility tab.
- Select Change high DPI settings, if shown.
- Enable the high-DPI scaling override. Depending on the Windows build, the wording may include Override high DPI scaling behavior or the older Disable display scaling on high DPI settings.
- Start with Application as the scaling choice.
- Click Apply, then OK, and relaunch Roblox.
Record your original setting before changing it. A DPI override may correct coordinates but make Roblox’s interface blurry or incorrectly sized. If the Compatibility tab is missing, the Store package may not expose the same executable controls. Do not force the setting through an unverified registry edit; use the website-launched desktop client or continue with the monitor workaround.

Option B: Lock the pointer to one monitor
If you must keep two monitors active while Roblox runs in a window, a cursor-management utility can impose a Windows-level boundary that Roblox may not reliably enforce. DisplayFusion is one commercial option; its official documentation describes locking or unlocking the mouse cursor to the current monitor, and its download page lists Windows 10 and Windows 11 support, a free version, and a Pro trial.
Use a cursor-lock utility only if you need the second monitor active during play. It is a workaround around the desktop boundary, not a repair to Roblox’s input handling.

If none of the fixes work
- Test another Roblox experience, including one ordinary third-person experience.
- Test another PC game. If the pointer escapes there too, Roblox may not be the root cause.
- Disable overlays and recording tools again, then retest after a clean restart.
- Update or reinstall the mouse and graphics drivers using the hardware vendors’ normal support channels.
- Check Roblox’s official graphics and system troubleshooting guidance.
- When reporting the issue, include the Roblox client type, Windows 10 or 11 version, number of monitors, display scaling percentages, window mode, affected experiences, and exact reproduction steps.
Do not assume the cause is always Windows 11, pointer speed, or a particular security feature. Unsupported claims about “Input Boundary Isolation,” Windows Hello authorization for mouse capture, kernel-level locking, or one specific Windows update should not be treated as established explanations for this Roblox problem.

Does Shift Lock cause the problem?
Not necessarily. Shift Lock exposes a cursor-capture problem in some configurations, but the client version, window mode, monitor layout, overlays, and DPI scaling may be responsible.
