33 Immortals is worth buying for a regular co-op group, and it is an easy recommendation if you already have Game Pass Premium or Ultimate. The roughly $15 base game delivers a distinctive 33-player “pick-up and raid” roguelite, cross-play across PC and Xbox, and short runs built around teamwork. It is a much softer purchase for solo players who expect to clear the late game through public matchmaking or want a deep, endlessly varied roguelike. Buy the base game only; the Starter Pack, Complete Collection and individual packs add cosmetics, not missions, weapons or other gameplay.
Is 33 Immortals worth buying?
For co-op players, yes—provided you understand that the population and your group matter as much as the combat. For someone already subscribed to Game Pass Premium or Ultimate, play it through the subscription first. Everyone else should buy the approximately $15 standard edition only if they can regularly play with two to four friends, or are prepared to find a group through the Thunder Lotus Discord.

The central idea is unusual: up to 33 damned souls share a fast run through realms inspired by Dante’s Divine Comedy. You join instantly, combine attacks and revive strangers, then face encounters that gradually funnel the crowd from 33 players in Inferno to 22 in Purgatorio and 11 in Paradiso. Runs take about 25 minutes, so the game creates the spectacle of a raid without the scheduling and preparation of a traditional MMO.
That design also creates the main risk. Critics generally like the concept and presentation, but multiple reviews say the later bosses become difficult when public lobbies are thin or uncoordinated. Steam’s English-language rating was Mostly Positive (79% of 945 reviews) on October 29, 2026, while the recent-review slice was Mixed (60% of 25). Treat those figures as a snapshot of a live multiplayer game, not a permanent guarantee of healthy matchmaking.

What is 33 Immortals?
33 Immortals is Thunder Lotus’s first game built entirely around online multiplayer. The Montreal studio previously made Spiritfarer, Jotun and Sundered; this project turns its hand-drawn style toward an action-roguelite about souls rebelling against God’s final judgment. The storefront credit is Thunder Lotus as developer and publisher.
Its “pick-up and raid” structure is deliberately accessible. Parties of up to four friends queue together, matchmaking fills the remaining places, and communication is designed around pings, emotes and proximity-based co-op abilities rather than mandatory voice chat. The 33-player number is also a literary reference: Dante’s poem has 33 cantos in each of its three parts.

Version 1.0 arrived on June 10, 2026 (the Xbox storefront displays June 11). It added the Paradiso realm, the previously hidden ultimate boss, more customization, balance changes and quality-of-life improvements. The game entered Early Access on March 18, 2025, and the full release followed roughly 15 months later.
What platforms is 33 Immortals on?
You can play it on Steam, the Epic Games Store, the Microsoft Store/Xbox app for Windows PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and Xbox Cloud Gaming. The current Xbox product page lists Xbox One as playable while identifying Series X|S as the optimized target, with Smart Delivery and cross-generation multiplayer. It is an Xbox Play Anywhere title, so a digital Xbox purchase also covers the supported Windows PC version.

Does 33 Immortals have cross-play?
Yes. Thunder Lotus’s launch FAQ confirms that Steam players can play with Epic and Xbox players, creating one matchmaking pool across those storefronts. A party can therefore include a Windows player who bought the game on Steam, an Xbox console player and someone streaming through Xbox Cloud Gaming.
Cross-play is especially important here because the game’s later realms need a healthy crowd. You can queue with up to four friends, then let matchmaking fill the rest. Private matches are available and scale difficulty to the number of participants, making them useful for a small group, but solo clears are possible rather than the intended balance target.
Is 33 Immortals on Game Pass?
The current Xbox product page says the game is cloud-playable and included with Game Pass Premium and Ultimate. It also says that Game Pass Essential requires you to purchase the game before streaming it. The title launched into Ultimate and PC Game Pass during Early Access and remained in the catalog at 1.0, but Microsoft has not published a leaving date.
Catalog membership can change without a new game version. Before deciding not to buy, look for the “included with Game Pass” badge in the Xbox app or on the Xbox product page in your region. Premium and Ultimate subscribers should start there: it gives you the lowest-risk way to discover whether the 33-player format suits you.

How much does 33 Immortals cost?
As checked on October 29, 2026, the Steam list price was $14.89 and the Xbox listing showed $14.99 or more depending on region. Launch-window reporting listed $14.99/£13.99/€14.99, while some European Xbox storefronts showed a €19.99 regional MSRP. Use the price displayed by your own store rather than an old review’s rounded $19.99 figure.
Discounts are not permanent. One October 5 Steam check recorded $8.93 (40% off), but the page checked on October 29 showed the regular $14.89 price. A sale can make waiting sensible if you are undecided, but there is no need to buy an expensive bundle to obtain the complete gameplay experience.

Which 33 Immortals edition should you buy?
There is no deluxe gameplay edition. The base SKU is the complete game; every other listed item is a cosmetic pack, soundtrack or bundle of cosmetics. Buy the standard game unless you specifically want alternate appearances, pets, halos, capes, illuminations or emotes.

The Steam Supporter’s Pack contains an Epic Cape, Legendary Halo, Epic Weapon Skin, Legendary Pet and eight Rare Emotes. The Immortal Menagerie Pack contains an Epic Cape, Legendary Weapon Skin, Epic Halo, Legendary Cat Familiar, Legendary Illumination and eight Rare Emotes. Store descriptions state that these packs change appearance only and do not affect gameplay.
Xbox uses the name Founder’s Pack at $8.99 where Steam lists the Supporter’s Pack at $9.99. The retrieved Xbox listing did not itemize its contents, so do not assume it is identical. Other Xbox add-ons include Mighty Quakes, Infernal Flames, Ill Omens, Eminent Elephant, Fierce Tides, Turbulent Winds, Chill Capybara, Good Luck and Chromatic Chameleon packs, generally priced at $5.99, plus the $9.99 Immortals Menagerie Pack. None unlocks a realm, weapon or higher-stat character.
Can you play 33 Immortals solo?
You can enter a private match alone, and private-match difficulty scales with group size. That makes solo experimentation possible, but the game is not balanced as a self-contained solo roguelike. Co-Strikes and other co-op powers are strongest when allies are nearby, and the design expects players to revive, combine effects and move as a group.
Public matchmaking can carry an early run, especially in Inferno, yet reviews repeatedly identify the later path as the problem. So Many Games’ reviewer reached Inferno quickly, needed a Discord group and private matches to finish Paradiso, and was still playing around 60 hours in. SteamDeckHQ wrote that the combat is fun and weapons are balanced but that reliance on co-op prevents a solo player from feeling powerful; Siliconera similarly found the concept enjoyable but too dependent on others.
If you usually play alone, try the demo on Steam or use Game Pass before spending money. If you have two to four friends, the same limitation becomes the game’s strongest feature: your group can coordinate while matchmaking supplies the scale and spectacle.

How long are runs, and what carries between them?
A typical run is about 25 minutes, although some coverage reports 30–60-minute sessions depending on route and pace. The player funnel moves from 33 combatants in Inferno to 22 in Purgatorio and 11 in Paradiso, so the number of allies naturally falls as a run advances. Permanent improvements are managed in the Dark Woods with Eternal Shards and Paragons, while weapons and relic choices shape the current attempt.
After update 1.1, the optional Fate system can reset selected meta-progression after you defeat Wrath of God with the Crown of Immortality. Currencies, cosmetics, the Archive and the Compendium are preserved. There are exactly 33 achievements, none permanently missable, although achievements requiring co-op cannot be farmed entirely by yourself.
How was 33 Immortals reviewed?
The critical response is positive but not unanimous. Metacritic recorded a 71 Metascore from four reviews, categorized as Mixed or Average. OpenCritic recorded a 73 Top Critic Average and 60% Critics Recommend from 15 reviews. Individual scores ranged from 70s to 80s and included a 4.5/5 from So Many Games.
The praise is consistent: the MMO-scale feeling is compressed into short roguelite sessions, the presentation is stylish, and the combat and weapon balance are approachable. HardZone called the blend of roguelite progression, fast action and MMO-style raids distinctive, while TheSixthAxis described clever co-op mechanics inside a bite-sized structure. LadiesGamers argued that the 33-player structure creates moments a conventional roguelike could not.

The reservations are equally consistent: repetition can set in, long-term content is thinner than a hundred-hour roguelike, and progression through Paradiso depends on enough competent players being present. Those are not contradictions; they describe a game that is excellent for repeatable social sessions but less convincing as a solo, permanently populated service.

Published coverage describes the game as well optimized for modest PCs and Steam Deck. LadiesGamers lists Steam Deck as Playable, while the Xbox store uses “Mostly Compatible” handheld language. Accessibility options include button remapping, a screen-shake toggle, VFX and resolution controls, separate music and sound-effect volume and multiple language choices. Performance figures cited by reviewers belong to their hardware and should not be treated as a guarantee for every system.
Should you buy, subscribe, wait or skip?
- Subscribe or play through Game Pass: You already have Premium or Ultimate and want to see whether large-team co-op works for you. This is the safest value.
- Buy now: You have a regular group, enjoy 20–30-minute sessions, like experimenting with builds and can tolerate some repetition. The base game is inexpensive and cross-play broadens your pool.
- Wait for a sale: You are interested but usually depend on public matchmaking, or you want evidence that lobbies remain healthy in your region. A lower price reduces the risk while you watch recent player feedback.
- Skip for now: You want a deep solo roguelike, a hundred-hour endgame with constant enemy variety, or a raid game that requires robust voice-led tooling. 33 Immortals intentionally solves a different problem.
The strongest recommendation is therefore conditional rather than universal: Game Pass first if you have it, base game only if you are buying, and a group is more important than any cosmetic bundle. The concept is genuinely new and often exciting, but its best moments require enough other immortals to be online and willing to cooperate.

Can my Early Access save transfer between stores?
Steam demo progress carries into the 1.0 release, but Early Access saves from Epic or Xbox do not transfer to Steam. Experimental beta-branch saves also do not carry over, so changing storefronts can mean starting progression again.
Is there a physical boxed copy of 33 Immortals?
