To play 33 Immortals with friends, first choose whether you want a public, matchmade run or a Private Session. For a friends-only session, interact with a campfire in the Dark Woods hub and share the generated code; Xbox players can also invite friends to a Private Session through the Friends list. The game supports crossplay across the versions Thunder Lotus lists for Steam, Epic Games Store, Xbox and Xbox on PC. A co-op run can include up to 33 players, but that does not mean one ordinary friend party holds 33 people.
What is the difference between a public run and a Private Session?
A public run uses matchmaking to fill the raid with other players, while a Private Session gives your group a way to control who joins. In either case, distinguish the size of the whole run from the size of a friend party: Thunder Lotus describes runs of up to 33 players and parties with up to four friends. The 33-player figure is the published capacity of a cooperative run, not the number of friends you can add to one ordinary party.

Thunder Lotus says Private Sessions are unlocked by default. Its February 2026 patch notes recommend at least three players because the session’s difficulty increases. That is a recommendation, not a stated technical minimum: the notes do not say that a smaller group cannot start a session.
How many friends can join?
The practical limit depends on which layer of multiplayer you mean. A normal party can contain up to four friends. Once that party enters a public match, the overall cooperative run can reach 33 players, with matchmaking supplying the rest. You therefore cannot promise 32 additional friends a place in one ordinary party or assume that a 33-person group can all be invited through a single friend list.

A Private Session is the option for controlling access to the session. The documented flow is to create it at a Dark Woods campfire and give the generated code to the people you want to join. The notes do not state a separate friends-only capacity beyond the game’s run capacity, so use the in-game session information rather than treating the four-person party figure as a private-lobby player cap.
What do you need before inviting friends?
Check access, platform, destination and unlocks before trying to form the group. Crossplay does not mean that every storefront, subscription plan or game mode has identical access.

- Supported version: Thunder Lotus lists Steam, Epic Games Store, Xbox and Xbox on PC, and confirms crossplay across those versions.
- Access for each player: The game is included with Xbox Game Pass, but check the current eligibility for each person’s plan and region rather than assuming every plan includes the same access or cloud options.
- Destination unlocks: Each party member needs the relevant World Key to create or join parties bound for Purgatorio or Paradiso.
- Demo limits: A Steam demo player is limited to Inferno and cannot join a party bound for another world, including a Private Session.
- Crossplay versus cross-progression: Playing together across versions is supported; carrying a save from one storefront or platform to another is not.
The full 1.0 release reached Steam on June 10, 2026, and the Xbox 1.0 update went live June 11, 2026. Those are past release dates, not indications that Xbox access is still pending. Platform availability and subscription terms can vary by region and change over time.
What does each player need to buy?
Every participant needs legitimate access to a supported version. That can mean buying the game on Steam, Epic Games Store or Xbox, or using an eligible Xbox Game Pass entitlement where the game is offered. No universal price is implied by crossplay: storefront prices, sales, taxes and subscription terms are separate from the multiplayer connection.
Game Pass inclusion is especially easy to misunderstand. Thunder Lotus says 33 Immortals is included with Xbox Game Pass, but the available plan, region and cloud-play rights can differ. Have each Xbox or Xbox-on-PC player check the current listing for their account rather than assuming that one person’s plan grants the same access to everyone in the group.
Ownership also matters when someone changes platforms. Crossplay lets an Epic player join a Steam host, for example, but Thunder Lotus says saves cannot be transferred between storefronts or platforms. Its Steam FAQ says a player moving from Epic or Xbox to Steam must purchase the Steam copy separately. Joining a friend is not a license transfer and does not import progress.

Make a party for a matchmade run if you want friends alongside other players. Thunder Lotus describes parties of up to four friends and instant matchmaking; it does not establish a universal, current PC menu path or button label for inviting a remote friend to an ordinary public party.

- Confirm that everyone can launch a supported version. The listed options are Steam, Epic Games Store, Xbox and Xbox on PC. Each player needs access to the game, whether through a purchase or an eligible access plan.
- Agree on the destination. If you plan to enter Purgatorio or Paradiso, verify that every party member has the matching World Key before forming the party.
- Form the friend group. Use the available party option in your version. Do not assume that a Steam, Epic or Xbox menu has the same labels, or that the game has one direct-invite button in every version.
- Alternatively, use the Party Flag in Dark Woods. The leader places the flag in the hub; nearby players interact with it, and the leader chooses the destination. This is a route for gathering nearby players, not documentation of a remote-invite control.
- Enter matchmaking. The game then finds a public run, which may include players outside your friend group.
If a friend is not nearby in Dark Woods and you cannot find a matching remote-invite control, do not confuse that with the Private Session code flow below. Thunder Lotus’s documentation does not establish the exact current PC steps for inviting a remote friend to a standard public party.
What is the Party Flag for?
The Party Flag is an in-game way to form a group with players who are nearby in Dark Woods. The leader places the flag, nearby players interact with it, and the leader selects the destination. It is useful when everyone is physically present in the same hub, but it is not evidence of a universal remote invitation button on Steam or Epic.
Use the Party Flag when your group is already together in the hub and wants to move into a public run. If friends are on different platforms or cannot meet in the same Dark Woods instance, the documented Private Session code is the clearer route. In both cases, check World Keys before selecting a later destination.

How do I make a private lobby and get the code?
Use the Dark Woods campfire to create a Private Session. The session generates a code that other players need in order to join; share that code with the people you want in the session.
- Gather in Dark Woods. The campfire interaction that starts a Private Session is in this hub.
- Interact with a campfire and start the Private Session. Thunder Lotus says the feature is unlocked by default.
- Copy or note the generated session code. It is the join method documented for players outside the host’s Xbox Friends-list invite option.
- Send the code directly to your friends. Since the code is what lets another player join, share it only with intended participants.
- Have each friend use the code to join, then begin the Journey. Exact code-entry button labels for Steam and Epic are not established here, so follow the current in-game prompts rather than relying on an invented menu path.
For an Xbox-hosted Private Session, the August 17, 2026 update added a direct option: Xbox players can invite friends into Private Sessions through the Friends list. This supplements the code method; it does not establish that the Xbox Friends list can invite friends on every other storefront.
Is a two-player Private Session possible?
The February patch notes say Private Session difficulty increases and recommend at least three players. That wording is guidance, not a published minimum or a promise that two players will be blocked. A two-person group should expect a more demanding run and should not interpret the recommendation as an assurance that the session will be easy with fewer players.
If the group is smaller than recommended, make sure everyone understands the trade-off before launching. Reviving allies, using cooperative abilities and communicating through pings and emotes become especially important when there are fewer people to cover objectives. A public match may be a better fit if the group wants additional players without sharing a private code.

Can Steam and Xbox friends play together?
Yes. Thunder Lotus confirms crossplay across the supported Steam, Epic Games Store, Xbox and Xbox on PC versions. Use the in-game session code for a Private Session when you need a documented join route across storefronts; do not treat platform compatibility as proof that every platform has the same invite menus.
Crossplay is separate from buying the game and from moving a save. A friend can be able to join your multiplayer session without owning the same storefront version, but Thunder Lotus says saves cannot be transferred between platforms or storefronts—even if the account uses the same email address. Its Steam FAQ also says a player moving from Epic or Xbox to Steam must purchase the Steam copy separately. Multiplayer compatibility does not grant ownership of another version or copy progress between versions.
Which Xbox consoles are supported?
The US Xbox listing includes Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC among its play options. Do not reduce Xbox support to Series X|S alone. Availability, cloud play and subscription terms are listing details that can vary by region, so an Xbox One player should check the current store entry for their location and account.
Xbox players have an extra convenience for private play: the August 17, 2026 update says they can invite friends directly into Private Sessions through the Friends list. The code-based method remains the documented cross-platform option, especially when the group includes Steam or Epic players.

The first check is whether every party member has the World Key for the selected destination. Thunder Lotus says the relevant key is required to create or join parties for Purgatorio and Paradiso, so a friend who lacks that unlock cannot join a party bound for that world.
- Check the destination and each player’s key. Make sure the group is not selecting a later world that one member has not unlocked.
- Check whether anyone is using the Steam demo. Demo players are restricted to Inferno, so they cannot join a party going to Purgatorio or Paradiso, even if the host has created a Private Session.
- Try a destination all members can access. If the group can join there, the mismatch is likely tied to the selected world or an unlock rather than the basic crossplay connection.
A Private Session changes who can join; it does not bypass a world requirement or the demo’s destination restriction.
What should I try if a co-op session will not connect?
Start with the game’s own error guidance rather than downloading third-party repair software. Thunder Lotus associates several error names with specific next steps and advises checking connection stability.

- No named error, but a failed join: Check that the code was shared correctly for a Private Session, that everyone is using a supported version, and that no destination key or demo restriction applies. Then check connection stability and retry.
When troubleshooting a code, have the host confirm that the session was actually created at the campfire and that friends are entering the current code. Do not substitute a public-party invite for a Private Session code or assume that a friend-list invitation on Xbox behaves identically on Steam and Epic.
How can the group coordinate once the run starts?
A microphone is not required for cooperation. Thunder Lotus points to in-game emotes, pings and cooperative abilities as ways to coordinate, alongside reviving allies. Use those tools to communicate immediate needs and regroup during a run.
If your group prefers voice, it can arrange a separate call, but do not assume that a particular built-in voice-chat feature is available. A headset is optional equipment for that external call, not a requirement for joining co-op. An Xbox-compatible controller can also be a convenient input choice for Xbox or PC players who prefer one, but check the specific product listing for compatibility; no particular controller model is required by the documented co-op flow.

- Confirm every player can launch a supported Steam, Epic Games Store, Xbox or Xbox-on-PC version.

Can I move my save from Epic or Xbox to Steam?
