Choose it if: you want extensive file access, custom restarts, location flexibility, or a hardware-tier choice. Premium hardware is not automatically necessary for a small vanilla group.

PC versus console DayZ hosting

For PC, ask whether “mod support” means one-click Workshop installation, manual FTP access, server-side mod support, custom maps, or merely permission to edit files. These are different levels of support.
How many slots and how much RAM do you need?
- Small vanilla group: Start with an entry-level plan sized for your actual group, but leave some slot headroom if the price difference is modest.
- Modded group: Prioritize RAM, strong single-thread CPU performance, fast SSD/NVMe storage, configuration access, and reliable backups over the lowest slot price.
- Public community: Prioritize upgradeability, DDoS protection, scheduled restarts, queue or priority tools, support, and a documented restore process.
Bohemia’s baseline server requirements list Windows Server 2012–2016 or Windows 10 and newer, Linux, a dual-core 2.4 GHz Intel or 2.5 GHz AMD processor, 6 GB RAM, and 2.5 GB of disk space, with SSD storage recommended. These are minimum requirements, not a production recommendation for a large or heavily modded server.

Renting versus self-hosting
Renting avoids port forwarding, hardware availability, routine patching, public reachability, and much of the backup and support burden.
