The correct way to connect a Turtle Beach Stealth 700 to a Windows PC depends on its generation and platform edition. Xbox models generally use Xbox Wireless through an Xbox Wireless Adapter or built-in Xbox Wireless, while PlayStation models typically use their included USB transmitter. Gen 2 MAX and Gen 3 models have their own transmitter requirements.
Identify your exact headset first, then follow the matching setup below. Using the wrong transmitter—or confusing Xbox Wireless with ordinary Bluetooth—is the most common reason the headset will not connect correctly.

Identify your Stealth 700 model
| Model | Identification clue | PC connection |
|---|---|---|
| Stealth 700 for Xbox One | Older Xbox-branded model | Xbox Wireless Adapter or built-in Xbox Wireless |
| Stealth 700 for PS4/PS4 Pro | Older PlayStation model with a wireless USB transmitter | Included USB transmitter |
| Stealth 700 Gen 2 Xbox | “Gen 2” and Xbox branding | Xbox Wireless Adapter or built-in Xbox Wireless |
| Stealth 700 Gen 2 PS | “Gen 2” and PlayStation branding | Included Mini Transmitter |
| Stealth 700 Gen 2 MAX | “Gen 2 MAX” on the headset or box | Matching platform-specific USB transmitter |
| Stealth 700 Gen 3 | “Gen 3” and newer CrossPlay design | Included wireless transmitter; Swarm II for configuration |

What you need before connecting
- A Windows PC and an available USB port where a transmitter is required.
- The correct transmitter for your exact headset edition, or an Xbox Wireless Adapter for compatible Xbox models.
- A charged or charging headset.
- The latest applicable firmware.
- Turtle Beach Audio Hub for supported older models, or Swarm II for Gen 3.
For firmware updates, Turtle Beach’s older instructions commonly require the headset to be connected by USB. The Gen 2 PS update procedure specifically requires separate USB connections for the headset and Mini Transmitter.

Connect Stealth 700 Gen 2 Xbox to a PC
Using an Xbox Wireless Adapter
Use this method when your PC does not have built-in Xbox Wireless. The adapter is sold separately.
- Plug the Xbox Wireless Adapter directly into an available USB port.
- Turn on the headset by holding its Power button.
- Press and hold the adapter’s Enroll button until its LED flashes.
- Press and hold the headset’s Connect button until the headset LED flashes.
- Wait several seconds. Solid LEDs indicate that the headset and adapter have connected.
- Open Windows Sound settings.
- Choose the Turtle Beach headset as the output device.
- Choose the Turtle Beach headset microphone as the input device.
- Open the game or chat application and select the same devices if it has its own audio controls.
See Turtle Beach’s Gen 2 Xbox PC compatibility instructions for the model-specific procedure.
Using built-in Xbox Wireless
Some PCs include Xbox Wireless, but ordinary Bluetooth support is not the same feature. Check the computer manufacturer’s specifications before attempting this method.

Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →- Open Windows Settings and go to Bluetooth & devices.
- Choose Add device or Add Bluetooth or other device.
- Select Everything else rather than the ordinary Bluetooth category when that option is shown.
- Press the headset’s Connect button.
- Select the headset when it appears.
- Set the headset and its microphone as the Windows output and input devices.
On PC, the Gen 2 Xbox controls do not provide separate game and chat volume control in exactly the same way as they do on Xbox. Turtle Beach also advises turning the lower headset volume control down first, then using the upper control for PC volume.
Connect Stealth 700 Gen 2 PS to a PC
- Plug the included Mini Transmitter into a free USB port.
- Turn on the headset.
- Check the transmitter LED. A solid LED indicates a connection; a double-blinking LED indicates that pairing is required.
- If pairing is required, leave the Mini Transmitter connected and allow it to search for the headset.
- Power on the headset so it searches for the transmitter.
- Within approximately 10 seconds, both LEDs should become solid.
- Open Windows Sound settings.
- Set Speakers / Turtle Beach Stealth 700 G2 as the output device.
- Set Microphone / Turtle Beach Stealth 700 G2 as the input device.
Use Turtle Beach’s Gen 2 PS pairing guide if the LEDs do not become solid. Do not substitute the original PS4 pairing procedure; it uses different controls.
Connect the original Stealth 700 for PS4/PS4 Pro
- Connect the original wireless transmitter to a free USB port.
- Turn on the headset.
- If the transmitter LED is not solid, put the transmitter into pairing mode.
- Put the headset into pairing mode using the controls for the original PS4 model.
- Wait for both LEDs to become solid.
- In Windows, select the Turtle Beach headset as the default output and input device.
The original model’s controls and pairing terminology differ from the Gen 2 PS model. Follow Turtle Beach’s original PS4/PS4 Pro setup guide.

Connect the original Stealth 700 for Xbox One
The original Xbox One model requires Xbox Wireless through an Xbox Wireless Adapter or a PC with built-in Xbox Wireless. It does not use the PlayStation model’s USB transmitter procedure.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors- Connect an Xbox Wireless Adapter, unless the PC has built-in Xbox Wireless.
- Turn on the headset.
- Put the adapter and headset into pairing mode using their Connect controls.
- Wait for them to connect.
- Select the headset and microphone in Windows Sound settings.
Turtle Beach describes this as a limited PC compatibility configuration. See its original Xbox One PC compatibility guide.
Connect Stealth 700 Gen 2 MAX to a PC
Use the wireless transmitter supplied with the Gen 2 MAX headset and matching platform edition. The Xbox and PlayStation versions have platform-specific wireless hardware.
- Confirm whether the headset is the Xbox or PlayStation Gen 2 MAX version.
- Connect its matching transmitter to a USB port on the PC.
- Turn on the headset.
- Wait for the transmitter and headset to connect automatically if they were already paired.
- If the transmitter indicates that it is not paired, follow the exact pairing procedure for that model in Turtle Beach’s Gen 2 MAX support pages.
- Select the Turtle Beach headset as Windows’ output device and its microphone as the input device.
- Use the applicable Turtle Beach software if it detects the headset for firmware and configuration.
Do not buy a generic Stealth transmitter. A replacement must match the headset’s generation and platform; Turtle Beach lists replacement transmitters by exact model.
Connect Stealth 700 Gen 3 to a PC
Turtle Beach lists the Gen 3 as compatible with Windows 10 or later and USB 2.0 or newer. Its PC setup uses the included wireless transmitter rather than ordinary Bluetooth.
- Confirm that the headset is a Stealth 700 Gen 3.
- Connect the PC-compatible included transmitter to a USB 2.0-or-newer port.
- Turn on the headset.
- Wait for the headset and transmitter to establish their 2.4GHz connection.
- Open Windows Sound settings.
- Select the Stealth 700 Gen 3 for output.
- Select its microphone for input.
- Install or open the Turtle Beach Swarm II desktop app for supported firmware, EQ, button, and audio settings.
The Gen 3 product page lists simultaneous low-latency 2.4GHz wireless and Bluetooth 5.2, but available features depend on the exact configuration and software. Turtle Beach also advertises up to 80 hours of battery life; that is a manufacturer claim, not an independent test.

Use Bluetooth instead
Bluetooth can be useful for music, calls, or basic audio, but it should not be the default gaming connection when your model includes a dedicated transmitter. The transmitter is designed for the model’s intended wireless gaming connection, while Bluetooth can expose different Windows playback and microphone profiles.
- Hold the headset’s Bluetooth button until the Bluetooth pairing prompt plays.
- Open the PC’s Bluetooth settings.
- Select the headset from the available devices.
- Choose the headset for output and input if Windows exposes both options.
On some older Gen 2 models, Bluetooth pairing mode times out after about two minutes. Some models can use Bluetooth alongside transmitter audio, but simultaneous behavior varies by model. Do not assume that Bluetooth provides the same latency, microphone quality, controls, or chat mixing as the dedicated wireless connection.
Most importantly, a generic Bluetooth adapter does not recreate Xbox Wireless. An Xbox Stealth 700 may require an Xbox Wireless Adapter even when the PC already has ordinary Bluetooth.
Recommended Free Tools
Set the headset as Windows audio and microphone
- Right-click the speaker icon in the taskbar.
- Open Sound settings. Older instructions may call this Playback Devices and Recording Devices.
- Under output, select the Turtle Beach headset.
- Under input, select the Turtle Beach headset microphone.
- Use Windows’ input test and speak into the microphone. The meter should respond.
- Set the headset as the default communication device if Windows offers that separate option.
- Open the game, Discord, Steam voice settings, Xbox app, or other chat program and select the headset and microphone manually.
Windows defaults do not always override an application’s own audio selections. If Discord uses a different microphone, for example, open Discord’s Voice & Video settings and choose the Turtle Beach microphone there.

| Problem | Likely cause | First fix |
|---|---|---|
| Headset does not appear | Wrong or missing transmitter | Use the matching transmitter and try a direct USB port. |
| Transmitter LED is blinking | Pairing is incomplete | Repeat the pairing procedure for the exact model. |
| Audio works but the microphone does not | Wrong input device, muted boom, or blocked permission | Select the Turtle Beach microphone, lower the boom fully, and check Windows microphone permissions. |
| Microphone works but game audio is silent | Wrong output device or game setting | Select the headset for Windows and in-game output, then check volume and mute controls. |
| Firmware app cannot detect the hardware | Wrong app or missing second USB connection | Use Audio Hub or Swarm II for the correct model and connect the devices as that model’s instructions require. |
| Xbox model will not pair | No Xbox Wireless support or adapter problem | Confirm that the PC has Xbox Wireless or connect a compatible Xbox Wireless Adapter. |
Headset is not detected
- Confirm that the transmitter is the correct model and platform.
- Move it to a USB port directly on the PC instead of a passive hub.
- Turn the headset off and on again.
- Restart Windows with the transmitter connected.
- Check Device Manager for an unrecognized USB or audio device.
- Try another USB port.
The Gen 2 PS transmitter double-blinks
A double-blinking Mini Transmitter LED means the headset and transmitter are not paired. Connect the transmitter, turn on the headset, and repeat the documented Gen 2 PS pairing sequence until both LEDs become solid.
Audio or microphone works only intermittently
- Charge the headset.
- Update its firmware.
- Use a direct USB connection for the transmitter.
- Temporarily turn off nearby Bluetooth devices.
- Disconnect Bluetooth while testing the dedicated wireless connection.
- Check that the boom microphone is fully lowered if the model uses flip-up muting.
Firmware updating fails
- Install the applicable Turtle Beach Audio Hub or Swarm II software.
- Connect the headset by USB and connect the transmitter too when the instructions require both.
- Do not disconnect either device during the update.
- Try another USB port if the application cannot detect the hardware.
- Confirm that the installed app supports your exact headset generation.
For example, Turtle Beach’s Gen 2 PS firmware instructions require separate USB connections for the headset and Mini Transmitter.

Dedicated wireless, Xbox Wireless, Bluetooth, or USB?
| Connection | Best for | Main advantage | Main limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| USB wireless transmitter | Gaming and voice chat | Designed for the headset’s wireless gaming connection | Requires the correct transmitter |
| Xbox Wireless Adapter | Xbox-edition models | Provides Xbox Wireless on compatible PCs | May need to be purchased separately |
| Built-in Xbox Wireless | PCs that include Xbox Wireless | No external adapter required | Easy to confuse with ordinary Bluetooth |
| Bluetooth | Music, calls, and basic audio | No transmitter required | Profiles and gaming behavior vary by model and Windows |
| USB cable | Charging and firmware | Useful for maintenance | Do not assume every model carries game audio over USB |
When to replace the transmitter
A replacement transmitter is reasonable when the original is lost or damaged, the headset otherwise works, and you can verify the exact model and platform compatibility. It is usually a poor solution when the headset has a dead battery, charging fault, or hardware failure.
Do not use a replacement transmitter to convert an Xbox headset into a PlayStation headset, or vice versa. Before buying one, confirm the generation, platform, and model name. If the Xbox model simply lacks PC connectivity, an Xbox Wireless Adapter may be all that is required.
