Five thousand Microsoft Rewards points is, by Microsoft’s own rough comparison, enough for a reward worth about $5. It is not $5 in cash, and what you can actually claim depends on your account’s region and the catalog shown in your own Rewards dashboard.
What 5,000 points is worth
Microsoft’s support documentation says Rewards points have no cash value. It also gives an approximate illustration: about 5,000 points to redeem something worth $5. Treat that as a rule of thumb for one example, not a guaranteed exchange rate. The same page notes that limits and terms vary by market, so the number of points a specific reward costs can differ from the illustration.

What you can redeem with points
Redemption options can include:
- Gift cards, which are redeemed through a Microsoft account and used at supported destinations.
- Games, offered through the catalog when it is available in your market.
- Movies, where the catalog includes them.
- Nonprofit donations, if you would rather direct the points to a charity.
Not every item appears for every account. Offers, catalogs, and limits are set by country or region, so a reward listed by someone else may not be visible to you.

- Points are not cash. You cannot withdraw them, and the $5 figure is an example of value, not a payout.
- The same points buy different things in different countries. Catalogs differ by region.
