Six monitors highlighted by HotHardware offer alternatives to PlayStation’s 27-inch Gaming Monitor, but their appeal differs: some prioritize lower-cost IPS, others curved VA, and three use OLED. The key PS5 caveat is that a monitor’s headline refresh rate—up to 360 Hz among these picks—is not a PS5 output rate. Check the exact model’s HDMI modes and current regional listing before choosing.
What the PlayStation monitor offers
Sony’s 27-inch Gaming Monitor with DualSense Charging Hook is a QHD display with HDR and VRR support. PlayStation says it works with PS5 as well as PC, Mac, and other HDMI- or DisplayPort-equipped devices. Sony’s November 2025 announcement described a 2560 × 1440 IPS panel supporting up to 120 Hz on PS5 and PS5 Pro, and up to 240 Hz on compatible PC and Mac devices. The announcement said it would launch in 2026 in the US and Japan; that announcement does not establish current availability or price. PlayStation’s product page and November 2025 announcement describe those features and limits.

The Sony model also has a built-in DualSense charging hook, which HotHardware identified as a differentiator. Its November 12, 2025 alternative-monitor list argued that OLED models may deliver stronger HDR and image quality than an IPS display; that is the article’s rationale, not a result established by comparative lab testing. HotHardware’s article is the source for the six picks and its dated prices.

How to choose for PS5 and PC
For a value-focused LCD
The Acer Nitro XV271U is the list’s affordable IPS choice. Its reported 180 Hz maximum is relevant to PC headroom, but it does not establish a PS5 mode. Before buying, verify the full model suffix and the manufacturer’s supported resolution-and-refresh combinations over HDMI.
For a curved screen
The Samsung Odyssey G65B is the VA option and the list’s “brightest” pick. Its 240 Hz figure is the reported monitor maximum, not a promise of 240 Hz from a PS5. The deciding factor may be whether you prefer a curved screen; also confirm the precise G65B version because specifications can vary by suffix or region.

For high-refresh PC play on IPS
The ASUS ROG Strix XG27ACMG pairs a reported 270 Hz maximum with IPS. That makes it the list’s balanced LCD choice for someone who values PC refresh headroom but does not specifically want OLED or a curved VA panel. Check that the PC connection you intend to use supports the advertised mode.
For OLED contrast or white styling
The LG UltraGear 27GX700A-B and MSI MAG 272QPW are both listed as 27-inch, 1440p OLED monitors with a 280 Hz maximum. The LG was HotHardware’s deal pick and the MSI its white pick; those are editorial labels from the November 2025 article, not assurances of a current deal or stock. Confirm the exact SKU, HDR specifications, warranty, and local availability before comparing their value.

For the highest listed refresh rate
The ASUS ROG Strix XG27ACDNG is the only 26.5-inch model in the list and has the highest reported maximum at 360 Hz. That figure is most relevant to a PC capable of driving the display at its supported mode. It does not mean a PS5 can output 360 Hz, so a console-focused buyer should prioritize verified HDMI support and 120 Hz operation instead.

A monitor’s maximum refresh rate usually describes a supported display mode, often over a particular PC input. It does not determine what the console can send. PlayStation’s guidance says PS5 supports 1440p output on compatible displays; its features page also describes VRR for compatible HDMI 2.1 displays and lists ALLM. - Jacks: HDMI 2.0(160Hz max), DP 1.4(160Hz max), Audio Jack(No Speakers) | VESA 100x100mm | Tilt (-5°~15°±2°).
For a PS5 or PS5 Pro, check the exact monitor model’s HDMI input capabilities and its supported combinations of resolution and refresh rate. In particular, confirm 1440p at 120 Hz if that is the mode you want, and verify VRR compatibility rather than inferring it from a high refresh number. The list’s 180, 240, 270, 280, and 360 Hz maxima should be treated as product headline figures, not console output modes.
