The right choice depends first on whether your game exposes dedicated-server software, then on its edition, platform, mods, player count, region, and resource requirements. For most PC players and modded communities, BisectHosting is the best overall starting point. Choose Nodecraft for easy game switching, Nitrado for console or crossplay support, PingPerfect for niche and legacy games, Hostinger for root-access VPS control, GTXGaming for advanced communities, and Shockbyte for a low-cost popular-game server.
This comparison covers consumer and community server rentals, not developer infrastructure such as GameLift, Agones, Edgegap, or Gameye. Prices and catalog details were checked on August 10, 2026; providers change prices, supported titles, locations, and promotions frequently.

Quick verdict
| Provider | Best for | Why choose it | Main limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| BisectHosting | Best overall for PC and modded communities | 100+ games, 21 locations, game swapping, modpack tools, backups, DDoS protection, and 24/7/365 support | Resource-heavy games cost much more than its entry-level Minecraft price |
| Nodecraft | Best for switching between games | Save & Swap, separate saved instances, cloud backups, a polished panel, non-shared IPs, and no host-imposed player-slot limit | Its catalog is smaller than PingPerfect or GTXGaming |
| Nitrado | Best for console, crossplay, and supported survival games | Broad PC, Xbox, PlayStation, Switch, mobile, and crossplay catalog with short rental periods | Slot-based and platform-specific pricing can be confusing or expensive |
| PingPerfect | Best for niche and legacy games | 200+ advertised games, 256 catalog entries displayed, 21 locations, trials, backups, and extensive configuration tools | Higher starting prices and a more technical experience |
| Hostinger Game Panel | Best for technically comfortable VPS users | Root access, 100+ games, multiple game instances, NVMe storage, and 4–32 GB RAM plans | Self-managed and paid upfront for the displayed promotional terms |
| GTXGaming | Best for advanced administrators and larger communities | 200+ games or templates, broad locations, daily off-site backups, DDoS protection, and VPS or dedicated-server options | More complex than a turnkey game host |
| Shockbyte | Best budget and beginner choice | 45+ games, one-click setup, 24/7 support, DDoS protection, free subdomains, and a 99.9% uptime SLA | Smaller catalog and volatile, title- and region-specific pricing |
These are best-fit categories, not independent performance rankings. The public information reviewed does not provide a controlled, apples-to-apples benchmark of CPU performance, latency, uptime, or support across all seven providers.
What game-server hosting actually is
A rented game server runs the multiplayer game process in a provider’s data center instead of on one player’s home computer. That gives your group a persistent world that can remain online when the usual host is asleep or offline. The provider normally supplies the machine or virtual machine, network connection, control panel, installation tools, and some level of support.
#1 Best Overall
- The next-generation optical HERO sensor delivers incredible performance and up to 10x the power efficiency over previous generations, with 400 IPS precision and up to 12,000 DPI sensitivity
- Ultra-fast LIGHTSPEED wireless technology gives you a lag-free gaming experience, delivering incredible responsiveness and reliability with 1 ms report rate for competition-level performance
- G305 wireless mouse boasts an incredible 250 hours of continuous gameplay on just 1 AA battery; switch to Endurance mode via Logitech G HUB software and extend battery life up to 9 months
- Wireless does not have to mean heavy, G305 lightweight mouse provides high maneuverability coming in at only 3.4 oz thanks to efficient lightweight mechanical design and ultra-efficient battery usage
- The durable, compact design with built-in nano receiver storage makes G305 not just a great portable desktop mouse, but also a great laptop travel companion, use with a gaming laptop and play anywhere
Do not confuse the following models:
- Peer-to-peer or listen server: one player’s PC or console hosts the session. It is easy to start but usually disappears when that player leaves.
- Managed game-server hosting: the provider installs and maintains a supported game-server configuration. This is the easiest option for most friend groups.
- VPS hosting: you rent a virtual machine and manage the operating system and server software. A game panel can simplify installation, but root access also creates more administrative work.
- Bare-metal dedicated server: you rent an entire physical machine. This offers the most predictable resources but costs more and requires more management.
- Game-server orchestration: services such as GameLift, Agones, Edgegap, and Gameye are designed for studios that need to create and scale many official game sessions. They are not normal monthly community-server rentals.
Can a host run any game?
No. The phrase “for any game” can only mean any game that supports a dedicated server, community server, or host-supported server implementation. Valve explains the difference between dedicated servers and peer-to-peer lobbies in its Steamworks game-server documentation and notes that developers must distribute dedicated-server files if they want communities to host the game.
A title is generally suitable when it provides one of these:
- Official dedicated-server software.
- A SteamCMD or other distributable server package.
- Community-server support.
- A provider-specific server implementation.
- A platform-approved private-server arrangement.
Games built entirely around publisher-controlled matchmaking, official private lobbies, or proprietary servers generally cannot be rented as ordinary community servers. A provider’s current order page is more authoritative than an old blog post: search for the exact game, edition, branch, and platform before paying.
What to verify before ordering
- Exact title and edition: for example, Minecraft Java is not Minecraft Bedrock, and ARK: Survival Evolved is not ARK: Survival Ascended.
- Platform: verify PC, Xbox, PlayStation, Switch, or mobile separately.
- Crossplay: crossplay is not the same as cross-progression. A game may synchronize an account or save between platforms without allowing those platforms to join the same rented server.
- Mod compatibility: check the mod loader, plugin versions, workshop collection support, custom startup arguments, and whether you can upload files.
- Player capacity: treat slots as a billing or configuration limit, not a guarantee that the hardware can run that many players smoothly.
- Available region: a provider may have a location listed globally but not offer that location for your chosen title.
- Resources: confirm CPU allocation, RAM, storage type, backups, and whether resources are shared or reserved.
- Renewal and cancellation: record the regular recurring price, minimum term, refund window, data-retention policy, and export process.
Comparison table
The numbers below are useful shortlist indicators, not directly comparable performance scores. Providers count games differently, and prices may describe entirely different products.
| Provider | Catalog evidence | Platform scope | Resource model | Trial or refund information | Management burden |

| BisectHosting | 100+ games; 21 locations | PC-focused; check each title | Game- and resource-based plans | Check the current game-specific policy | Low to medium |
| Nodecraft | 73 listed game entries | PC, mobile, Xbox, and PlayStation labels vary by game | Feature-based plans with saved instances | Trials may be limited by supply and require phone verification | Low |
| Nitrado | More than 70 games immediately available | PC, Xbox, PlayStation, Switch, mobile, and crossplay variants | Game, slot, and rental-duration pricing | No free trial; short rental options available | Low |
| PingPerfect | 200+ advertised; 256 entries displayed | Mostly PC; verify each game | Slot, RAM, and hardware tiers vary by title | 48-hour free trial | Medium |
| Hostinger | 100+ games | Primarily VPS-compatible PC titles | 1–8 vCPU and 4–32 GB RAM VPS plans | 30-day money-back guarantee is advertised; check current terms | High |
| GTXGaming | 200+ games or templates | Broad PC/server coverage | Managed plans, VPS, and dedicated servers | Check the policy for the specific product | Medium to high |
| Shockbyte | 45+ games | Popular PC titles and title-specific platform support | Game-specific plans | Check the current title and regional terms | Low |
1. BisectHosting — best overall for most PC players
Choose BisectHosting if you want the safest general shortlist for a PC friend group, especially one that uses mods or expects to switch games later.
BisectHosting advertises 100+ supported games and 21 worldwide locations through its BisectOne plan. Its game-swapping system lets customers move among supported titles without buying a completely new server order. That combination is useful for groups that alternate between Minecraft, Valheim, Terraria, Palworld, Project Zomboid, and ARK rather than committing to one game forever.
Its current Minecraft example starts at $5.99 per month for 2 GB on a monthly plan. The advertised Minecraft per-GB rates are $3 monthly, $2.70 quarterly, $2.55 semi-annually, and $2.40 annually. Those figures are specifically for Minecraft and should not be applied to every title: resource-heavy games such as ARK and Palworld can cost materially more.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →The listed Minecraft features include NVMe storage, unlimited disk space on the displayed plan, DDoS protection, free MySQL, free subdomains, FTP access, performance metrics, configurable backups, and a custom control panel. Its Minecraft panel also advertises 2,300+ modpacks, an Instance Manager, plugin and datapack installers, and game-instance management. Support is advertised as 24/7/365 with a knowledge base and personalized assistance. See the BisectOne plan, Minecraft pricing and features, and games panel.
Watch out for: the attractive Minecraft starting price does not represent the cost of every game. Check the exact game page, required RAM, location, backup terms, and renewal price at checkout.
Best fit: PC players, modpack groups, streamers, and administrators who value a managed panel over root access.
2. Nodecraft — best for easy game switching
Choose Nodecraft if your group regularly moves from one game to another and you want each game’s files and saves kept separate.
Nodecraft’s current library lists 73 game entries, including Minecraft, Palworld, ARK, Rust, FiveM, Project Zomboid, Factorio, Valheim, Terraria, and others. Its defining feature is Save & Swap: you can change the game hosted by the server while preserving server files and saved instances. This is more useful than simply reinstalling a new title because it reduces the risk of overwriting a previous world.
The service advertises cloud backups, a non-shared IP address, DDoS protection, and a 99.9% uptime claim. Nodecraft says the host itself does not impose player-slot limits; the game determines the practical maximum. The current homepage displays promotional pricing of approximately $4.17 per month for Wake & Play and $6.99 per month for a 24/7 plan. These are displayed promotional figures, so check the recurring price and plan conditions before ordering. See Nodecraft’s current plans, pricing details, and the game catalog.
Nodecraft lists PC, mobile, Xbox, and PlayStation support labels, but platform compatibility remains game-specific. A trial may be available, but the homepage says trials are limited by supply and require mobile-phone verification; do not assume every customer receives one.

- HERO Gaming Sensor: Next generation HERO mouse sensor delivers precision tracking up to 25600 DPI with zero smoothing, filtering or acceleration
- 11 programmable buttons and dual mode hyper-fast scroll wheel: The Logitech wired gaming mouse gives you fully customizable control over your gameplay
- Adjustable weights: Match your playing style. Arrange up to five 3.6 g weights for a personalized weight and balance configuration

- Mechanical Switch Button Tensioning: A metal spring tensioning system and metal pivot hinges are built into left and right computer gaming mouse buttons for a crisp, clean click feel with rapid click feedback
Watch out for: Nodecraft’s catalog is smaller than PingPerfect’s or GTXGaming’s, and “no player-slot limits” does not mean unlimited CPU, RAM, or simulation capacity.

3. Nitrado — best for console and crossplay
Choose Nitrado when console compatibility, crossplay, or a platform-specific survival game matters more than a simple RAM-per-dollar comparison.
Nitrado’s U.S. storefront advertises more than 70 games available immediately. Its catalog separates PC, Xbox, PlayStation, Switch, mobile, and crossplay variants, which is important because the same game name can represent different server software and licensing rules. Nitrado says customers can install up to five games in its cloud, with only one active at a time, and can change the hosted game through its configurator.
Nitrado support says plans include DDoS protection and lets users select among multiple worldwide regions. Its short-term rental options are useful for a temporary event or a group that does not want a long commitment. Nitrado currently does not offer a free trial. Some games can only be purchased through a particular platform storefront; for example, its game selector warns that Xbox One servers must be ordered through the Microsoft Store. Check the platform-specific catalog, U.S. storefront, and support policies.
Nitrado’s slot-based pricing can be difficult to compare with a RAM-based VPS or a managed plan that advertises hardware resources. The meaningful question is whether the exact platform, player count, region, mod support, and crossplay mode you need are offered together.
Watch out for: PC support for a game does not automatically mean Xbox or PlayStation support, and a PC server may not accept console players. Verify the exact platform variant before payment.
Best fit: console owners, crossplay groups, and players of officially supported survival games with platform-specific server requirements.
4. PingPerfect — best for the widest catalog
Choose PingPerfect when your game is obscure, old, niche, mod-heavy, or missing from the usual Minecraft-and-survival-host lists.
Recommended Free Tools
PingPerfect advertises 200+ supported games, 21 global locations, DDoS mitigation, automated updates, backups, mod management, configuration editing, 24/7 support, and setup in under 10 minutes. Its current catalog displays 256 entries, spanning modern survival games, shooters, simulations, racing titles, older Source-engine games, and legacy configurations. It also advertises switching games without placing a new order.
The count needs context: the catalog can include platform variants, legacy versions, mods, modes, and related server configurations rather than 256 wholly unrelated modern games. That does not make the catalog unhelpful; it means you should search for the exact orderable configuration.
PingPerfect advertises a free 48-hour trial, limited to one trial per customer. Its FAQ says customers who want to keep the server must contact support before the trial ends. A displayed Minecraft plan starts at $17.62 per month for 20+ slots, 6 GB of RAM, approximately 100 GB of NVMe storage, DDoS mitigation, nightly backups, and free web hosting. Its support page advertises about 1,500 knowledge-base articles and an average response target under 10 minutes. Review the catalog, example Minecraft plan, and trial FAQ.
Watch out for: PingPerfect’s entry price is not the cheapest in this group, and its large catalog does not guarantee that every game has identical hardware, mod, region, or support coverage.
Best fit: administrators who need a legacy title, an unusual simulator, or a catalog broader than mainstream hosts provide.

5. Hostinger Game Panel — best for root access and flexibility
Choose Hostinger if you are comfortable managing a VPS and want to run multiple game services or install software beyond a provider’s normal managed-game menu.
Hostinger’s Game Panel service advertises 100+ games, one-click installation, multiple games on one plan, mod support, full root access, DDoS protection, weekly backups, and worldwide data centers. Example supported titles include Minecraft, Hytale, Palworld, CS2, Enshrouded, Rust, Terraria, and Valheim.
The current plans shown are:
| Plan | CPU | RAM | NVMe storage | Bandwidth | Displayed 24-month promotional monthly figure | Displayed renewal rate |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Game Panel 1 | 1 vCPU | 4 GB | 50 GB | 4 TB | $6.99/month | $11.99/month |
| Game Panel 2 | 2 vCPU | 8 GB | 100 GB | 8 TB | $9.49/month | $14.99/month |
| Game Panel 4 | 4 vCPU | 16 GB | 200 GB | 16 TB | $13.99/month | $28.99/month |
| Game Panel 8 | 8 vCPU | 32 GB | 400 GB | 32 TB | $27.99/month | $49.99/month |
Hostinger states that these plans are paid upfront and that the displayed monthly figure is calculated from the total plan price divided by the term. Prices are shown without VAT. Its service is a self-managed VPS: Hostinger supplies the machine, panel, tutorials, knowledge-base material, AI assistance, and 24/7 customer-success support, but root access means you remain responsible for operating-system updates, permissions, security, server configuration, and much of the troubleshooting. See the official Game Panel plans.

Best fit: technical users, homelab-style administrators, and communities that want several separate game instances on one flexible VPS.
6. GTXGaming — best for advanced communities
Choose GTXGaming if you need deeper administrative controls, many templates, VPS capacity, or a path toward a dedicated machine.
GTXGaming advertises 200+ games, 24/7 human support, setup in approximately 60 seconds, DDoS protection, daily off-site backups, and a global network. Its listed U.S. locations include Dallas, Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, Denver, Miami, Charlotte, and Oregon. That broad U.S. coverage is useful for a North American community, although the location available for your chosen game must still be confirmed.

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
GTXGaming’s dedicated-server offering supports Windows or Linux remote access and can add the TCAdmin 2 panel with more than 200 pre-built game-server templates. The TCAdmin add-on is listed at $25 per month for the relevant U.S. dedicated-server setup, while it is included at no extra cost on London dedicated machines. Its U.S. VPS page currently displays $8.86/month for 4 GB, $11.39 for 8 GB, $22.80 for 16 GB, and $44.35 for 32 GB, with root access, NVMe storage, DDoS protection, and monthly billing. Those are VPS prices, not necessarily the prices of managed game-server plans. See the U.S. homepage, VPS plans, and dedicated-server information.
Watch out for: a dedicated machine, VPS, and managed game plan are different products. Do not use the cheapest VPS figure as a like-for-like comparison with a small managed Minecraft server.
Best fit: clan leaders, modpack administrators, server networks, and experienced operators who need detailed control and room to scale.
7. Shockbyte — best budget and beginner option
Choose Shockbyte if you want to put a popular PC game online quickly without learning VPS administration.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed

Shockbyte’s current game page lists 45+ games, including Minecraft, Rust, FiveM, RedM, Palworld, Terraria, Hytale, ARK, Valheim, Project Zomboid, Factorio, and Satisfactory. It advertises one-click setup, 24/7 support, DDoS protection, a free subdomain, access to server files and configuration tools, and a 99.9% uptime SLA. It also identifies official partnerships for several titles, including Rust, FiveM, and RedM. See the current game catalog.
The displayed Minecraft price is approximately $2.79 on the cited regional page, while another official regional page displays approximately $3.99. These are regional and volatile promotional figures, not a universal Shockbyte price. The real cost depends on the title, location, resources, billing term, and mod requirements.
Watch out for: the low starting price is not a performance promise. Check the exact plan’s hardware, backup schedule, renewal rate, support terms, and platform compatibility.

Which provider is best for your game?
The provider shortlist changes with the game and platform. Use these as starting points, then confirm the exact title page:
- Minecraft Java and modpacks: start with BisectHosting because of its modpack tooling, Instance Manager, and large modpack catalog. Nodecraft and Shockbyte are reasonable alternatives for simpler installations. Confirm the Minecraft version, loader, modpack, RAM, and backup policy.
- Minecraft Bedrock: do not order a Java server by mistake. Check whether the provider supports the Bedrock dedicated-server configuration you need. Minecraft publishes separate Java server guidance and Bedrock dedicated-server downloads and requirements.
- Palworld: BisectHosting, Nodecraft, Hostinger, and Shockbyte list the game, while PingPerfect and GTXGaming may also be candidates depending on the current configuration. For planning, Pocketpair’s official documentation recommends 4 or more CPU cores and 16 GB of memory; it describes 8 GB as bootable but more prone to out-of-memory crashes, recommends fast SSD storage, and identifies UDP port 8211 as the default. Read the official Palworld server requirements.
- Rust and FiveM/RedM: compare Shockbyte, GTXGaming, BisectHosting, and Nodecraft by the exact game version, mod or framework support, region, and administrative tools. Rust Console and Rust PC are not interchangeable.
- ARK: verify whether you need Survival Evolved or Survival Ascended and whether your chosen platform is supported. Resource demands and pricing can be substantially higher than an entry-level Minecraft plan.
- Valheim, Terraria, and Project Zomboid: most of the shortlisted managed hosts support these popular PC titles. Choose by region, mod support, backup access, and the number of players rather than by catalog size alone.
- Legacy or unusual games: check PingPerfect first because its catalog displays many older, niche, and related configurations. GTXGaming is another useful candidate where a template or VPS setup is available.
- Console survival games: check Nitrado first, but verify the exact Xbox, PlayStation, Switch, mobile, or crossplay listing. PC support alone does not establish console compatibility.
How much server power do you need?
There is no reliable universal table that says, for example, “4 GB equals 10 players.” The requirement varies with the game engine, map size, entity count, simulation distance, server tick rate, save-file age, mods, plugins, bots, and the number of simultaneous players. A provider’s recommended slot count is guidance, not a performance guarantee.
CPU
CPU matters most for simulation-heavy survival games, physics, AI, and high tick-rate workloads. Many servers depend heavily on one main simulation thread, so a machine can show low total CPU usage while one core is saturated.
RAM
RAM matters for large worlds, modpacks, plugins, entities, and multiple server instances. More RAM prevents memory pressure, but it does not automatically remove lag. A server with ample memory can still suffer from a slow or oversubscribed CPU, disk stalls, poor routing, or a broken mod.
Storage
NVMe or SSD storage improves world loading, updates, backups, and save operations. It does not replace adequate CPU or memory, and it does not make a corrupted world safe.
Player slots
Slots are a capacity label or billing unit. They do not tell you how many players the server can sustain at a stable tick rate with your map, mods, and automation. Start below the advertised maximum and watch CPU, RAM, disk I/O, and server tick metrics during a real session.
Managed host, VPS, or dedicated server?
| Model | Best for | Advantages | Drawbacks |
|---|---|---|---|
| Managed game host | Friend groups, beginners, and one or two communities | Fast setup, game-specific installers, panels, backups, and provider support | Less root control; game and mod availability depend on the provider |
| VPS | Technical users running multiple services or games | Root access, flexible software, multiple instances, and predictable plan resources | You manage updates, security, permissions, configuration, and more troubleshooting |
| Bare-metal dedicated server | Large or demanding communities and server networks | Entire physical machine, predictable resources, and maximum control | Highest cost and greatest administration burden |
“Dedicated” is an ambiguous marketing term. It may mean a dedicated game instance, reserved RAM, a VPS, a dedicated IP, a physical machine, or simply a server that stays online. Ask what is actually dedicated: CPU cores, RAM, the IP address, the virtual machine, or the physical hardware.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to compare the real price
Never rank hosts by the largest “from” price. Normalize the comparison:

Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →- Use the same game and edition.
- Use the same expected player count.
- Match RAM, CPU allocation, storage, location, and backup requirements.
- Separate monthly recurring pricing from promotional pricing.
- Record whether the price requires quarterly, annual, or 24-month prepayment.
- Check the renewal price, taxes, minimum term, setup charges, dedicated-IP fees, and premium support.
- Check whether backups are included and whether restore is self-service.
- Confirm cancellation timing, data retention, and the cost or ease of migration.
Hostinger is a clear example of why this matters: its displayed Game Panel monthly figures are calculated from a 24-month prepaid plan, and the page separately shows higher renewal rates. The displayed prices also exclude VAT. BisectHosting’s $5.99 example is specifically a 2 GB Minecraft monthly plan, while PingPerfect’s $17.62 example is a 20+-slot, 6 GB Minecraft plan. Shockbyte’s displayed Minecraft price differs between regional pages. These are not apples-to-apples prices.
Backups, DDoS protection, and uptime: what the labels do not tell you
Backups
“Backups included” is not enough. Verify the frequency, number of retained copies, off-site status, manual-backup option, restore process, and whether the provider saves the whole instance or only the world files. Current examples include Hostinger’s weekly backups, nightly backups on the displayed PingPerfect Minecraft plan, and GTXGaming’s daily off-site backups.
Before installing a large modpack or accepting a major game update:
- Stop the server cleanly.
- Create a manual backup if the panel supports it.
- Download a copy of the world, configuration, player data, and mod list to another location.
- Record the game version, loader version, startup arguments, and installed mods.
DDoS protection
DDoS mitigation helps absorb or filter malicious network traffic. It is not anti-cheat, moderation, exploit protection, account security, or a guarantee that a game process will remain running. A mod can still crash the server, a compromised administrator account can still damage it, and a vulnerable plugin can still create risk.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsUptime claims
A 99.9% SLA generally concerns a defined network or service-availability commitment, not the uninterrupted health of your game process. It may exclude scheduled maintenance, customer-caused crashes, mod failures, or upstream incidents, and its remedy may be service credit rather than cash. Read the actual SLA instead of treating 99.9% or 100% as “this game can never go offline.”

Deployment checklist
- Open the current catalog and search for the exact title, edition, branch, and platform.
- Confirm the server software—official dedicated files, community server, or a provider-specific implementation.
- Confirm crossplay rules and account requirements for every player platform.
- Select a region near the majority of players. If the group is split between regions, compare latency from both sides before committing.
- Choose capacity conservatively. Use official game requirements where available and leave headroom for mods, entities, and future players.
- Review checkout terms. Capture the introductory price, recurring price, renewal price, taxes, billing term, refund window, and cancellation deadline.
- Install the base server and test an unmodded or minimal configuration first.
- Invite a small test group and inspect CPU, per-core load, RAM, disk I/O, network behavior, tick time, and logs.
- Add mods gradually. Back up before each major change and keep client and server versions synchronized.
- Document recovery. Save the world, configuration, mod list, administrator credentials, startup arguments, and an external backup.
Common failures and how to recover
The game is listed, but the edition is wrong
Stop before payment if the order page does not explicitly name the required edition. Minecraft Java versus Bedrock, ARK: Survival Evolved versus Ascended, Rust PC versus Rust Console, and stable versus experimental branches can require different server software. Contact support with the exact edition and platform rather than assuming the title name is sufficient.
The host supports the game but not your mod
A one-click installer does not guarantee compatibility with every mod loader, plugin version, workshop collection, custom binary, experimental branch, or server-side API. Check whether you have FTP or file-manager access, custom startup arguments, the required loader, and permission to upload the needed files.
The server lags even though average CPU usage is low
Check per-core CPU usage, tick time, RAM pressure, disk I/O, swap activity, network latency, and server logs. Possible causes include one saturated main thread, oversubscribed shared hardware, poor routing, save-file stalls, an oversized world, too many entities, or a mod that performs expensive work on every tick. More RAM alone may not solve it.

Check the IP address and port, server status, startup logs, firewall, allowlist, password, account requirements, crossplay settings, game and mod versions, and whether the server has finished updating. For Palworld, the official documentation identifies UDP port 8211 as the default, although a host’s panel may abstract or remap the port.
An update or mod corrupted the world
- Stop the server cleanly.
- Do not overwrite the current save.
- Make a copy of the current files for later investigation.
- Restore the latest known-good backup.
- Match the game version and mod versions to the backup.
- Test the restored copy in a temporary or private instance.
- Reopen the public server only after the test succeeds.
A backup is only useful if you know which files it contains and have successfully tested the restore process. Keep at least one export outside the host.
You want to cancel or migrate
Before canceling, export the world or save, configuration files, player data, mod list, server version, startup arguments, and any database. Ask the provider how long data remains after cancellation, whether the IP changes during migration, whether a location change requires a reinstall, and whether the previous game instance remains available after a game swap. Do not assume “game switching” converts one game’s save into another; it normally preserves separate instances rather than making incompatible worlds interchangeable.
How the seven providers were evaluated
The useful question is not which provider has the biggest marketing number. This editorial framework gives priority to:
Recommended Free Tools
| Criterion | Importance | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Exact game and platform support | 25% | Current order page, edition, crossplay mode, and server software |
| Performance resources | 20% | CPU type or allocation, RAM, storage, and shared versus reserved resources |
| Control and mod support | 15% | File access, RCON, mod installers, custom binaries, startup arguments, and configuration tools |
| Location and network | 15% | Actual regions for the chosen game, routing, DDoS mitigation, and port controls |
| Backups and recovery | 10% | Frequency, retention, off-site status, manual backups, and restore process |
| Support and SLA | 10% | Support channels, hours, response targets, exclusions, and compensation terms |
| Price transparency and exit options | 5% | Renewal price, billing term, refunds, data retention, export, and migration |
Catalog size is deliberately not the dominant factor. A list of 200 games is irrelevant if your particular edition lacks a nearby region, mod support, adequate resources, or a workable backup system. Provider catalog counts also use different definitions: BisectHosting and Hostinger advertise 100+ games, Nodecraft lists 73 entries, Nitrado advertises more than 70 immediately available, PingPerfect advertises 200+ and displays 256 entries, GTXGaming advertises 200+ games or templates, and Shockbyte lists 45+ games. Those counts can include platform variants, modes, templates, legacy versions, and related configurations.
Final buying checklist
- Is the exact game edition orderable today?
- Can every intended platform join the same server?
- Does the required mod loader or plugin framework work?
- Is the selected location available for that title?
- Are CPU, RAM, storage, and player capacity adequate with headroom?
- Is the displayed price promotional, prepaid, regional, or a renewal price?
- How often are backups made, how long are they retained, and can you restore them yourself?
- Can you download your world and configuration before cancellation?
- What does the DDoS or uptime promise actually cover?
- Can you contact a human when an update or mod breaks the server?
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I rent a server for a game that is not listed by the provider?
Usually not through that provider’s managed game-server product. The game needs official dedicated-server software, a distributable community-server package, or a provider-supported implementation. A VPS may give an experienced administrator more flexibility, but it cannot overcome a game that is entirely dependent on publisher-controlled matchmaking.
Can console players join a PC game server?
Only when the game and the specific server configuration support crossplay. PC, Xbox, PlayStation, Switch, mobile, and crossplay variants can use different software and licensing. Verify the exact platform listing before ordering; cross-progression does not automatically mean crossplay.
Is a VPS cheaper than managed game-server hosting?
Not necessarily. A VPS can offer better value when you run multiple instances and can manage the operating system yourself, but you must account for administration, security, backups, support, and the actual renewal price. Compare equivalent CPU, RAM, storage, location, backups, and billing terms rather than comparing headline prices.

The Bottom Line
For most PC groups, start with BisectHosting. Pick Nodecraft instead if changing games and preserving separate saves is central to your plans. Pick Nitrado when console or crossplay compatibility determines the purchase. Choose PingPerfect for an obscure or legacy title, Hostinger for root-level VPS control, GTXGaming for an experienced or expanding community, and Shockbyte for a simple low-cost popular-game server.
Whichever provider you choose, verify the exact edition and platform, compare the renewal price, select a region near the players, and export a working backup before installing mods or canceling the service.
