Escape from Tarkov’s “1000 – Backend error” is often a Battlestate server-side processing problem, not a fault with your PC. First check the official status page, Battlestate’s announcements, and the official Steam support discussions. Close the error, wait 10–15 minutes, then make one clean attempt.
If other players are unaffected, restart the game and launcher, clean the launcher’s cache or temporary data, verify the installation, and test your network without a VPN or proxy. If the error happens only after a raid or while using a particular item, quest, trader, Hideout feature, or character profile, treat it as a possible game-state bug and report it rather than repeatedly retrying the same action.

Escape from Tarkov uses the same generic backend error for several different failures: the game may be unable to load your profile, save a raid result, move an item, create a character, enter a raid, or complete an interaction with a trader, quest, Hideout station, or reward.

This guide reflects the available information as of August 9, 2026. Battlestate released the 1.1.0.0 seasonal update on August 3, 2026, and later published technical updates for some post-launch errors, so check the latest announcement before applying older workarounds.
What does Tarkov error 1000 mean?
The client has sent a request to Escape from Tarkov’s online backend and received a response that was unavailable, invalid, or could not be processed. The backend manages online data such as:
- Account and character profiles
- Stash and inventory changes
- Raid entry, extraction, death, and raid-result synchronization
- Quests, rewards, traders, and Hideout actions
- Matchmaking and other online services
Battlestate’s developer guidance says this error usually appears because of a problem processing data on the game servers and recommends waiting 10–15 minutes before trying again. Persistent cases should be sent to technical support. See the developer’s pinned explanation of error 1000.

The code is not, by itself, evidence that your account is banned. It is a generic backend failure message. That does not rule out every possible account-access problem, but error 1000 alone does not identify a ban.
First determine whether Tarkov is down
Do this before changing DNS, deleting files, or reinstalling the game. Local troubleshooting cannot repair an outage, an overloaded service, a failed deployment, or a server-side profile problem.
Signs the problem is server-side
- Many players report the same error at roughly the same time. Check recent community reports as corroboration, but confirm the situation through official channels where possible.
- The problem started during or just after maintenance, a wipe, a major patch, a Twitch Drops campaign, or another high-traffic event. Deployments and sudden traffic increases can cause temporary authorization or data-processing failures.
- Battlestate acknowledges an outage, authorization problem, maintenance period, or technical issue. Battlestate has previously announced widespread problems connecting to and authorizing through the game and launcher, followed by an announcement that the issue was resolved. Use these sources in this order:
- Official Tarkov status page
- Official Battlestate Telegram announcements
- Official developer and support discussions on Steam
Third-party outage trackers, Reddit, and Discord can show that other players are affected, but they should not override an official maintenance notice or be treated as a definitive service-status source.
Use the official 10–15-minute wait
When the error appears:
- Close the error once.
- Wait 10–15 minutes.
- Do not repeatedly click retry, claim the same reward, move the same item, or submit the same profile action while the service is failing to save.
- Make one clean relaunch attempt.
If an official outage is still active, waiting longer may be sensible, but “wait a day or two” is not Battlestate’s standard first-line instruction. If there is no known outage and the error continues, proceed with the local checks below.

1. Fully restart Tarkov, the launcher, and Windows
A complete restart discards a stale authentication session or a hung launcher process. It will not fix a server outage, but it is a low-risk first reset.
- Exit Escape from Tarkov.
- Exit the Battlestate Games Launcher completely. Do not leave it running only in the system tray.
- Open Windows Task Manager with Ctrl + Shift + Esc.
- End any remaining Tarkov or Battlestate Games Launcher process that is still running.
- Restart the PC.
- Open the launcher again and allow it to finish checking or downloading updates.
- Launch Tarkov and try the action once.
On Steam, close Steam as well, then reopen it and allow any pending Tarkov update to complete before launching.

2. Clean the Battlestate launcher cache or temporary data
The launcher has used labels including Clear cache, Clean temp folder, and similar wording in different versions. The exact label and menu location can change with the launcher build.
- Open the Battlestate Games Launcher.
- Open the profile/account menu or the game settings menu.
- Choose Clear cache, Clean temp folder, or the equivalent temporary-data cleanup command.
- Wait for the cleanup to finish.
- Close and reopen the launcher.
- Try Tarkov again.
Community troubleshooting guides document both versions of this launcher workflow: Clean temp folder and Clear Cache.
Cleaning the launcher’s temporary data is not the same as deleting your account, stash, or server-side profile. It also does not repair Battlestate’s servers. Do not routinely delete the entire %AppData% directory, Tarkov profile files, or arbitrary folders just because a guide lists them. If the launcher cleanup control cannot run, contact support rather than guessing which local files are safe to remove. Before any manual settings cleanup, record your custom launcher and game settings.
3. Verify the game installation
Verification can repair missing or damaged client files. It cannot fix an outage, a corrupted server-side profile, or a backend bug triggered by a quest or item.
Battlestate Games Launcher
- Open the launcher.
- Open Tarkov’s game menu or settings.
- Choose Integrity Check or the equivalent repair/verification option, if available in your launcher version.
- Let the process complete before starting the game.
Steam release
- Open Steam and select Library.
- Right-click Escape from Tarkov.
- Choose Properties.
- Open Installed Files.
- Select Verify integrity of game files.

4. Test the connection path
After checking service status and the launcher, isolate network-path problems with these low-risk tests:

- Reboot the router.
- Use a wired connection if possible.
- Test one launch through a mobile hotspot or another network. If Tarkov works there, the problem may involve your usual ISP route, DNS, filtering, or packet loss.
- Make sure Windows date and time are set automatically, especially if the message also mentions SSL, certificates, or authorization.
A VPN is not a standard Tarkov fix. A different route can help identify an ISP-path issue, but VPNs can also introduce latency, authentication problems, or additional filtering.
DNS, Winsock, firewall, and antivirus checks
Flush the DNS cache
Open Command Prompt as administrator and run:
ipconfig /flushdnsThe expected result is:
Successfully flushed the DNS Resolver Cache.This clears Windows’ cached name-resolution data. It may help if the PC is resolving a service address incorrectly, but changing DNS cannot repair a broken Battlestate backend.
Reset Winsock only when Windows has broader network problems

netsh winsock resetRestart Windows afterward. Microsoft documents this command as a way to reset the Winsock catalog and remove corrupted custom network-provider settings in its Winsock documentation.
Do not treat public DNS services such as Google DNS or Cloudflare DNS as guaranteed Tarkov solutions. They can change name resolution, not the condition of Battlestate’s servers.
Allow Tarkov and its launcher through Windows Firewall
Use an application exception rather than permanently disabling the firewall or opening random router ports:
- Open Windows Security.
- Select Firewall & network protection.
- Choose Allow an app through firewall.
- Enable or add the recognized Battlestate launcher and Tarkov executable on the appropriate trusted network profile.
- Restart the launcher and test again.
Microsoft says allowing a recognized application is generally safer than opening a port. Its guidance also warns that disabling firewall protection or opening ports can increase security risk. See Microsoft’s pages on the risks of allowing applications and Firewall and network protection.
If third-party antivirus software has web or network protection, temporarily disable that component only as a controlled test. Re-enable it immediately after testing. Do not permanently turn off security software.

During character creation
Some players encounter error 1000 immediately after selecting a faction and confirming a character name. A launch-specific workaround documented by Destructoid is to restart before repeatedly attempting character creation.
- Close Tarkov.
- Reopen the launcher.
- Clean its cache or temporary data.
- Restart the launcher and game.
- Complete character creation once.
- If the error returns, stop repeating the creation process and check official service notices.
After extracting, dying, or leaving a PvE raid
Battlestate has acknowledged specific PvE problems that caused backend errors after leaving a raid. See the relevant official technical announcement.
If error 1000 starts immediately after a raid:
- Wait 10–15 minutes.
- Do not immediately repeat the extract, insurance, reward, or inventory action.
- Relaunch the game once.
- Check your character, stash, quest progress, insurance, and raid-result screens.
- If the profile remains stuck or the same action fails again, report the raid context and exact time to Battlestate.
Do not assume that a failed result screen permanently deleted your loot or progression. The server may have saved the state even though the client could not display it. Conversely, a successful relaunch does not prove every synchronization issue has been fixed.

When entering a raid or loading a profile
Community reports describe cases in which removing a PMC’s equipped gear allowed the player to load or enter a raid again. This is only a diagnostic workaround, not an official universal fix. It may indicate an incompatible or invalid loadout state.
- Remove the weapon, armor, rig, helmet, backpack, and melee weapon.
- Do not delete the items.
- Try to load or enter a raid with a minimal loadout.
- If it works, re-equip items one at a time.
- Stop when the error returns and record the suspected item.
- Report the item and the exact action to Battlestate instead of repeatedly forcing it into the profile.
If you cannot reach the character screen at all, this workaround is not applicable. A completely inaccessible profile is more likely to require service recovery or support intervention.
In the stash, Hideout, trader, quest, or reward screen
If the error happens only when moving a particular item, turning in a quest, claiming a reward, using a trader, or interacting with a Hideout station, record the exact trigger before experimenting further. Battlestate has fixed narrowly scoped backend issues, including a 1000 error involving turning in a Kappa Secured Container to the Cultist Circle; see the official technical update.
Check the latest patch notes before using risky workarounds. Record:
- The exact item, quest, trader, reward, or Hideout station
- Whether the action happens every time
- Whether an item, currency, or reward was consumed
- Whether the problem affects PvP, PvE, or a seasonal character
- The patch number shown in the launcher or game
- A screenshot or video and the time of the failed action
Do not reset a character, delete profile data, or repeatedly claim a reward without explicit support guidance.
On PvP, PvE, or a seasonal character
Do not assume that every Tarkov mode uses the same affected profile or service path. The 1.1.0.0 seasonal update introduced a separate seasonal character profile; the published patch-note discussion states that seasonal characters are independent from regular PvP and PvE profiles. When diagnosing the problem, note:
- Whether the error affects only the seasonal character
- Whether it affects PvP and PvE as well
- Whether switching profiles triggers the error
- Whether it began after the seasonal launch, a patch, or a Twitch Drops event
Testing another mode can help identify the scope, but it is not a cure. A fix for one profile or backend service may not repair a different profile.
Immediately after a patch or seasonal update
First allow the launcher to finish updating and then restart it. Review the latest announcements rather than relying on an old guide. As of the August 3, 2026 release of version 1.1.0.0, Battlestate later published a technical update addressing several errors that appeared immediately after launching the client. That notice does not establish that every remaining error 1000 case is fixed; use the current official announcement feed for the latest status.
What not to do
- Do not repeatedly retry a failed save, reward, item transfer, or raid result. Repeated requests can make the original symptom harder to understand.
- Do not delete profile files or reset your character. Error 1000 can be server-side or caused by a known game bug.
- Do not open random router ports. Microsoft distinguishes allowing an application through the firewall from opening a port and considers port opening the riskier option.
- Do not permanently disable Windows Firewall or antivirus protection. Use a brief controlled test, then restore protection.
- Do not reinstall the entire game as your first response. Reinstallation cannot fix maintenance, a broken backend, a server-side profile, or a feature-specific bug. Community reports of players still receiving error 1000 after reinstalling are consistent with those causes; see an example in the Tarkov PvE community.
- Do not assume cache clearing is a guaranteed cure. It is a reasonable local step, not an official universal fix.
When and how to contact Battlestate support
Contact support when the error persists after the official 10–15-minute wait and a clean relaunch, especially if:

- Other players can use the service normally.
- The problem survives cache cleanup, file verification, and an alternate network.
- Your profile is stuck after a raid.
- The error occurs every time with one item, quest, trader, Hideout action, or character.
- You can reproduce it in a particular mode or seasonal profile.
- The launcher offers a bug-report option.
For gameplay errors and bug reports, use the launcher’s Report Bug function when available. Battlestate developers have said that launcher reports can automatically include the latest client logs. If the launcher will not open, use the official support request page or the official bug-report knowledge article. Battlestate’s Steam support instructions are also available here. Frequently Asked Questions
Does Tarkov error 1000 mean I have been banned?
No. The generic backend code is not, by itself, evidence of a ban. Battlestate describes it as a data-processing or service error, although separate account-access problems may require support.
Will clearing the launcher cache delete my account or stash?
The launcher’s Clear cache or Clean temp folder function removes temporary local data; it does not intentionally delete your server-side account or stash. Do not manually delete profile files or the entire AppData directory as a routine fix.
Should I reinstall Escape from Tarkov?
Not initially. Check official service notices, wait 10–15 minutes, restart the launcher, clean temporary data, verify files, and test another network first. Reinstallation cannot repair an outage, server-side profile state, or a known backend bug.
Why does error 1000 appear after a PvE raid?
It can occur when the client and backend fail to synchronize the raid result, profile, stash, or progression after extraction, death, or leaving the raid. Relaunch once and check your saved state; if the same result repeatedly fails, report it with the raid time and context.
Why can removing my gear sometimes help?
Community reports suggest that a particular item or loadout can occasionally leave a profile in a state that prevents loading or raid entry. Removing gear is only a diagnostic test: do not delete the items, and re-equip them one at a time to identify a repeatable trigger.
Does changing DNS fix the Tarkov backend error?
It can help isolate a name-resolution problem, but it cannot fix Battlestate’s servers. Flush DNS or test another network only after checking the official service status, and do not treat public DNS or a VPN as guaranteed solutions.
