If you like Hytale for its mix of block-by-block building, dangerous exploration, and RPG-style progression, the best next game depends on which part you want more of. Choose Minecraft for the closest block-sandbox fit, Terraria for bosses and gear progression, or Valheim for survival-led exploration. The games below are editorial recommendations, not a tested or objectively ranked list; each matches a different part of Hytale’s appeal.
What makes a game feel like Hytale?
Hytale’s official game page describes a sandbox RPG where players explore a procedurally generated world of dungeons, secrets, and creatures, then shape it block by block. That combination matters: a game can resemble Hytale in its building, survival, exploration, combat, or progression without reproducing the whole package.
Hytale launched in Early Access, and some content was described as unfinished or gated in the January 21, 2026 recommendation article. Its build and availability can change, so treat that as dated context rather than a claim about every current version.
Eight games to try, depending on what you enjoy
1. Minecraft — for block-based building and open-ended play
Minecraft is the most direct pick if Hytale’s blocks, biomes, and dangerous nights are what you want more of. Its core, vanilla sandbox is the closest fit for building and exploring without switching to a different kind of game. Hytale’s creators began with Minecraft minigames and servers, which helps explain why the two are natural comparisons.
#1 Best Overall
- Polished core systems
- Exploration
- Flexible combat
- Robust building
Start with vanilla Minecraft if you want the familiar building-and-exploration loop. Consider modded Minecraft separately if you want to add systems and content; it is a customization route built on Minecraft, not a different base game.
2. Terraria — for mining, bosses, and equipment progression
Terraria suits players who enjoy finding resources, fighting monsters and bosses, and upgrading equipment as they push into more challenging areas. Its world and action are presented in 2D, so it is a strong match for Hytale’s progression and adventure elements rather than its three-dimensional block building.
Rank #2
3. Vintage Story — for demanding, realistic survival
Try Vintage Story if you want a blocky world paired with a harsher, more realistic survival loop. It speaks to the appeal of gathering, crafting, and enduring a demanding world, but its tone is less bright and charming than Hytale’s presentation.
4. Stardew Valley — for farming and slower progression
Stardew Valley is a softer alternative for players drawn to long-term progression and the possibility of making a place their own. Farming is at its center, with caving, fishing, and relationships adding other routines. Choose it for cozy, steady play—not as a direct replacement for Hytale’s combat and survival focus.

5. Valheim — for exploration-led survival
Valheim is a good fit if the journey matters as much as the base: travel to gather resources, face enemies and environmental hazards, and improve your capabilities over time. A January 2026 recommendation article described Valheim as Early Access and further along than Hytale at that time. That comparison is date-sensitive and should not be read as a statement about either game’s status today.
6. Disney Dreamlight Valley — for characters and life-sim adventure
Disney Dreamlight Valley blends life-sim and adventure elements, with characters, base-building, and exploration at the forefront. It is better suited to someone who values those activities more than Hytale-style survival systems.

- Easy to use interface that is designed for ease of creation
- Interactive education for game server hosting creation
- Provider listings for rental game servers for Hytale that match your criteria
- Simple design to help you navigate the complexity of game server hosting

7. Enshrouded — for building alongside action and exploration
Enshrouded combines open-world exploration, survival, crafting, combat, and building. Pick it if you want construction to sit alongside action and adventure rather than carry the experience on its own. The January 2026 recommendation described it as Early Access; that release status may have changed since publication.
8. Modded Minecraft — for player-selected variety
If Minecraft’s basic sandbox works for you but you want different systems or a larger range of content, modded Minecraft lets you change the experience. Depending on the mods or curated modpack, that can mean factories, new dimensions, or other additions. Mod selection and compatibility vary, so don’t assume every combination installs easily or works together.
