Verdict: The 8BitDo Ultimate 2C Bluetooth Controller is an unusually capable Nintendo Switch 2 gamepad for its low price. It offers Hall Effect sticks, motion controls, rumble, extra remappable bumpers and a comfortable full-size layout for about half the cost of Nintendo’s Pro Controller. It cannot wake a sleeping Switch 2, has no NFC or amiibo support, and its light shell and membrane D-pad may not suit every player.

Features and controls
Hall Effect sticks and triggers
Hall Effect joystick sensors avoid the physical contact used by conventional potentiometers, a design intended to reduce the wear-related drift that can develop over time. PC Gamer’s review also described the controller as having Hall effect triggers. Hall Effect hardware does not guarantee that every unit will remain perfect, but it is a notable specification at this price.
Motion, rumble and remapping
The Bluetooth model includes six-axis motion control and rumble for games that use tilt aiming or motion gestures. Its L4 and R4 rear-positioned bumpers add two inputs without moving your thumbs from the sticks. Fast onboard button mapping lets you assign functions directly on the controller, while a turbo function can automate repeated presses where a game and its rules allow it.

D-pad and face buttons
8BitDo uses a refined membrane D-pad and updated bumpers. Nintendo Life found the controls comfortable and feature-rich overall. A Switch 2-focused review reported unintended diagonal inputs during precision fighting-game play; that was an individual observation rather than a standardized laboratory test. Players who rely on exact quarter-circle and diagonal inputs should test the D-pad during the return window.
Comfort, weight and build
At 225 g, the Ultimate 2C is unusually light. Nintendo Life measured it against 246 g for the Switch Pro Controller, 280 g for a PS5 DualSense and 287 g for an Xbox Series controller. The lower weight makes long sessions easy on the hands, although the casing may feel less reassuring after drops than a heavier premium gamepad. Grip width and long-session comfort are subjective; the full-size shape is closer to a traditional console controller than a compact handheld pad.

Battery life in practice
8BitDo rates the 480 mAh rechargeable battery for up to 15 hours of play after a two-hour charge (8BitDo, 2026). “Up to” is a maximum rating, not a guaranteed runtime: wireless conditions, rumble, motion features and usage patterns affect endurance. A Switch 2-focused review found that real use could fall short of the official figure. Charging is by USB; a charging-dock specification was not established in the reviewed material.
Important Switch 2 limitations
No wake-from-sleep function
The controller worked for gameplay in a Switch 2-focused review but did not wake the console from sleep. You must press the console’s power button or use another method to bring the system out of sleep before playing.

No NFC or amiibo
There is no NFC reader, so you cannot scan amiibo figures or use Nintendo’s NFC-dependent features with this pad. Keep an NFC-capable controller if those functions are part of your routine.
How it compares with pricier controllers
The Ultimate 2C’s advantage is a concentrated feature set rather than a luxury build. It supplies Hall Effect sticks, motion, rumble and two extra remappable bumpers at a budget price. A higher-priced controller may be preferable if you need console wake, NFC/amiibo, a heavier shell, a charging dock or a particular rumble implementation. The supplied coverage does not establish like-for-like specifications for those alternatives, so check each model’s current manual and listing rather than assuming features transfer between brands or generations.

Should you buy the Ultimate 2C Bluetooth?
- Buy it if you want a full-size Switch 2 controller, Hall Effect sticks and extra assignable inputs without paying Pro Controller money.
- Choose something else if wake-from-sleep, amiibo/NFC, a heavier premium casing or tournament-level D-pad precision is essential.
- Double-check the box for “Bluetooth” and Switch 2 support; the Windows/Android Ultimate 2C Wireless is a different product.
- Update firmware to 20.1.1 or later before pairing with Switch 2.
Bottom line for Switch 2 owners
Ollie Reynolds of Nintendo Life called it “a strong alternative to Nintendo’s first-party offering” and “a remarkably comfortable and feature-rich pad that punches well above its weight.” That assessment fits the hardware: the Ultimate 2C Bluetooth delivers the controls most players need at a fraction of the usual first-party price. Its missing NFC, lack of console wake and lighter construction are real compromises, not hidden advantages, but they are easy to weigh against the low cost.
