How this ranking weighs different kinds of maps
Battlefield maps do not all aim for the same experience. A tight infantry arena and a sprawling combined-arms battlefield should not be judged by the same measure of scale. The ranking therefore considers what each map makes distinctive, how it shapes routes and combat choices, how its pacing feels by design, and whether it has a notable place in the series’ history or returned in later games.

EA has not published a definitive all-time ranking, and there is no directly comparable official statistic establishing map quality or popularity. The order below is an editorial judgment. For several entries, the available official EA material is limited, so those picks are presented as brief, qualified selections rather than as sourced claims about specific layouts or mechanics.
The 9 best Battlefield maps, ranked
1. Wake Island
Wake Island is the most defensible top pick for its signature amphibious identity. The map is associated with Battlefield 1942 and has been reimagined across later games. EA describes the Battlefield V version as a horseshoe-shaped classic, with approaches by land, sea and air. 2. Operation Métro
Operation Métro earns its place through a concentrated infantry identity that proved strong enough to inspire a successor. EA describes Battlefield V’s Operation Underground as a spiritual successor to Battlefield 3’s Métro: it keeps intense close-quarters combat while adding flanking routes and reducing bottlenecks that could make matches stale. Valparaiso shares that Portal connection: EA also included this Bad Company 2 map in its announcement of reimagined classics. Like Arica Harbor, its return is a reason to include it here, not evidence that it is currently in a particular playlist. The same Portal announcement names both maps.

For a cross-era revisit, Wake Island, Caspian Border, Arica Harbor and Valparaiso have a documented connection to later Battlefield releases or reimaginings. EA announced six classic reimagined maps for Portal: Battle of the Bulge, El Alamein, Arica Harbor, Valparaiso, Caspian Border and Noshahr Canals. That launch roster does not confirm present-day access or playlist rotation. Check the current game and mode listings before planning around a specific map.
If you want close-quarters infantry combat rather than vehicles and open approaches, Operation Métro is the pick in this list; EA’s account of Operation Underground explains what its successor retained and changed. For an amphibious, multi-approach experience, Wake Island is the strongest choice.
