Aitana Bonmatí is the highest-rated central midfielder in EA Sports FC 25, with an overall rating of 91. Alexia Putellas follows at 90, then Kevin De Bruyne at 89. This ranking uses FIFA Index’s FC 25 list of players whose positions include CM, RCM or LCM, ordered by overall rating; tied ratings follow the database’s ordering. It is a rating-based shortlist, not a tested gameplay or meta ranking, and it includes women’s and men’s players.

The ratings and position scope below come from FIFA Index’s FC 25 central midfielder list. Players are ranked by overall rating. Where ratings tie, the sequence reflects the database’s ordering, not a demonstrated difference in ability.

How to choose a CM for your team
Overall rating is useful for a quick comparison, but it does not tell you which midfielder best suits your formation, tactics, or preferred way of playing. EA’s FC IQ guide describes five Centre Midfielder roles that frame the choice around what you need the player to do.

- Holding: Use this role for a player tasked with guarding the back line and covering counterattacks.
- Deep-Lying Playmaker: This role starts build-up from a deeper position and helps initiate attacks.
- Playmaker: Pick this role when you want a creative fulcrum; EA notes that this player can be caught out of position against counters.
- Half-Winger: This role moves toward the flank in possession to provide width, and is particularly useful in a midfield three.
These are tactical role descriptions, not a claim that a specific player on the list is automatically best for each one. Check the options available in your mode and formation, then weigh the role fit against rating.

What this ranking does—and does not—show
This is a ranking for EA Sports FC 25, using the named FIFA Index database and its CM/RCM/LCM category. It is not a men-only list: Bonmatí, Putellas, Lavelle and Heaps appear alongside the men’s players. Nor does the order establish who is strongest for every mode, budget, formation or play style.
Other FC 25 lists can use different editorial criteria or report different ratings. For example, U2FIFA’s midfield guide gives De Bruyne a rating of 90, while FIFA Index lists him at 89. The two values should not be blended into one ranking: this article consistently follows FIFA Index’s list and rating rule.

The ratings are FC 25 database ratings, not real-world performance statistics or results from gameplay testing. EA’s currently surfaced ratings page opens to a later FC 27 edition, so it does not independently confirm these historical FC 25 values. For tactical role definitions, see EA’s FC 25 FC IQ guide.
