If FIFA 23 is stuttering or dropping frames on PC, first compare your hardware with EA’s requirements, then test one reversible change at a time. The steps below are troubleshooting checks, not guaranteed FIFA 23 fixes: EA’s guidance does not publish a measured FPS gain or success rate for them.
Check whether your PC meets FIFA 23’s requirements
EA SPORTS’ 2022 PC FAQ lists the following specifications. They are minimum and recommended baselines, not a promise of a particular frame rate or graphics setting.

| Component | Minimum | Recommended |
|---|---|---|
| Operating system | Windows 10 64-bit | Windows 10 64-bit |
| Processor | Intel Core i5-6600K or AMD Ryzen 5 1600 | Intel Core i7-6700 or AMD Ryzen 7 2700X |
| Memory | 8 GB RAM | 12 GB RAM |
| Graphics | NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti or AMD Radeon RX 570 | NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 or AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT |
| DirectX | Version 12 | Version 12 |
| Storage | 100 GB | 100 GB |
EA’s FIFA 23 PC FAQ says the PC version uses DirectX 12 exclusively and does not support DirectX 11. Do not switch launch options to DirectX 11 as a performance workaround. If your PC is close to the minimum specifications, start by lowering graphics settings rather than expecting high settings to run smoothly.

1. Check which graphics processor FIFA 23 is using
On a laptop with integrated and dedicated graphics, confirm that the game is assigned to the dedicated GPU. Windows graphics preferences or the graphics-card maker’s supported control software can set this preference, but the exact menus vary with Windows and driver versions. EA recommends configuring the dedicated GPU for games, especially on laptops. EA’s PC graphics troubleshooting guide has general guidance.
2. Lower the in-game graphics settings
Reduce graphics quality and test a match or mode where the drops usually happen. If the change helps, raise settings gradually until you find a workable balance between image quality and smoothness. This is a diagnostic test, particularly for systems near minimum requirements, not a guaranteed fix. Restart the game if a setting asks you to do so.
3. Update the graphics driver carefully
Check for a driver from your GPU manufacturer and follow its supported installation instructions. EA notes that a clean installation can help reduce conflicts with older drivers, but a newer driver is not automatically better for every game. If the stutter started immediately after a driver update, consider the manufacturer’s supported rollback option rather than repeatedly installing versions at random. See EA’s graphics troubleshooting advice.
4. Close unnecessary background apps
Close programs you do not need while playing, then check whether the drops change. EA warns that too many simultaneous background apps can contribute to graphics issues and recommends reducing them when a PC is near minimum requirements. Avoid closing Windows or security processes you do not recognize.

5. Test a frame-rate cap and V-Sync
Change one frame-pacing option at a time: try a frame-rate cap, then test V-Sync if needed. EA’s general freezing guidance describes these as troubleshooting options that can align frame output with the display’s refresh rate. It does not prescribe one universal cap for FIFA 23, so do not assume a particular number is correct for every monitor or PC. EA’s crash and freeze guide discusses both tests.
6. Determine whether the symptom is network rubberbanding
Ask whether the problem also occurs offline. A visual hitch or frame-rate drop can point to rendering performance; a player who snaps back into position during online play may be experiencing rubberbanding. EA describes rubberbanding as snapping back and says it is usually associated with high latency or a jittery connection, not a graphics issue. Use EA’s graphics troubleshooting guide to distinguish the symptoms before changing graphics settings.
7. Repair FIFA 23’s files in the EA app
If you play through the EA app, use its repair option to check the installed game files:
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →- Open the EA app and select Library.
- Select FIFA 23, then choose Manage > Repair.
- Let the check finish, then launch the game and see whether the problem remains.
EA includes this repair path in its PC, PlayStation, and Xbox crash or freeze troubleshooting guide. It checks for file problems; it is not a promised FPS boost.

8. Use a Windows clean boot to check for software conflicts
If the easier checks do not help, EA recommends a clean boot to disable potentially interfering background tasks while you troubleshoot. Follow EA’s clean-boot guidance and note what you change so you can restore normal startup afterward. If the game behaves differently in a clean boot, re-enable items methodically to identify a conflict instead of leaving normal services disabled.
9. Reinstall only after simpler checks
Reinstalling FIFA 23 or the EA app is a later option if problems persist. EA discusses reinstallation for persistent crashes or freezes, not as a verified cure for low FPS specifically. Back up anything you need before uninstalling and use the platform’s normal uninstall and install process. EA AntiCheat starts when FIFA 23 launches and closes when the game closes; EA also notes that third-party applications attempting to interact with the game may be affected. Do not disable or bypass AntiCheat as a performance fix.

FIFA 23 PC requires DirectX 12; it does not support DirectX 11. EA’s DirectX troubleshooting page advises checking Windows updates and explains that the DirectX End-User Runtime installs missing libraries needed to use the EA app. That guidance does not establish the runtime as an FPS booster for FIFA 23. See EA’s DirectX and EA app troubleshooting article if you are addressing a DirectX or EA app error.

When a hardware upgrade is worth considering
Consider hardware only after checking that the game uses the intended GPU, testing lower settings, and ruling out a network symptom or software conflict. Compare your CPU, GPU, and RAM with EA’s minimum and recommended baselines above. A PC that only meets minimum requirements may need lower settings; a component below minimum may be a more fundamental limitation. EA lists the GTX 1660 and RX 5600 XT as recommended GPU examples, but those published requirements do not establish current prices, availability, or which card is the best value.
