Sony’s FY2025 fourth-quarter and FY2026 first-quarter release calendars both list Helldivers for November 10, 2027, in U.S. theaters. Sony cautions that listed titles and dates can change. The date is a scheduled theatrical release, not a guarantee of when the film will open.

Who is directing the Helldivers movie, and who is in the cast?
Justin Lin is attached to direct
TheWrap reported in June 2026 that Justin Lin was directing the project, and its September 18, 2026 report continued to identify him as director.
#1 Best Overall
- BECOME A LEGEND - You will be assembled into squads of up to four Helldivers and assigned strategic missions. Watch each other’s back – friendly fire is an unfortunate certainty of war, but victory without teamwork is impossible.
- LOADOUTS - Rain down freedom from above, sneak through enemy territory, or grit your teeth and charge head-first into the jaws of combat. How you deliver liberty is your choice; you’ll have access to a wide array of explosive firepower, life-saving armour and battle-changing stratagems… the jewel in every Helldiver’s arsenal.
- REQUISITION - Super Earth recognises your hard work with valuable Requisition. Use it to access different rewards that benefit you, your squad, your destroyer ship and our overall war effort.
- THREATS - Everything on every planet wants you dead. That’s what we’re dealing with. Each enemy has distinct and unpredictable characteristics, tactics, and behaviour – but they all fight ferociously and without fear or morality.
Alan Ritchson is in talks, not confirmed
TheWrap reported on September 18, 2026, that Alan Ritchson was in talks to play one of the Helldivers. Talks do not establish a finalized casting decision, and the available reporting does not establish a complete cast.
In June 2026, TheWrap reported that Jason Momoa had exited and that Sony was continuing its casting process. That earlier report should not be read as evidence that Momoa remains attached. TheWrap’s September casting report and its June report on Momoa’s departure provide the dated updates.

What is the movie based on?
Sony describes the project as a film adaptation of Helldivers game IP owned by Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE). In Sony’s official FY2025 fourth-quarter executive speech transcript, the company states: “Recently, SPE and PlayStation Productions announced the film adaptation of the Bloodborne game IP owned by SIE (Sony Interactive Entertainment) and preparations for the film adaptation of Helldivers have begun.”
TheWrap identifies Arrowhead Game Studios as the game franchise’s developer and reports that Helldivers 2 sold more than 12 million units across PlayStation 5 and PC in its first four months after its 2024 launch. That is a historical figure for that period and those platforms, not a current lifetime sales total. The sources describe the movie as an adaptation of the Helldivers franchise; they do not establish that it adapts Helldivers 2 specifically. Read Sony’s official executive speech transcript and TheWrap’s September 2026 report.

They also do not establish a trailer or a streaming service. The project is described in contemporary reporting as live-action, but Sony’s cited calendar and transcript do not provide further production details.
