Rainbow Six Siege did not become cross-platform on one date. PlayStation and Xbox players began playing together in December 2022, with Operation Solar Raid. Console players could join PC players starting December 3, 2024, with Operation Collision Point. Earlier steps covered players within the same console family (December 2020) and PC players with cloud platforms (June 30, 2021). The right date depends on which platforms you mean.
What “cross platform” can mean
Ubisoft has added several different features under this label, and they arrived at different times. Three distinctions matter:
- Crossplay lets players on different platforms join the same matches.
- Cross-progression lets eligible progress and purchases follow your Ubisoft account from one platform to another. It is a separate feature from crossplay.
- Platform pairing determines the date. Same-family consoles, PlayStation with Xbox, PC with cloud platforms, and consoles with PC each had their own milestone.
When someone asks whether R6 is cross-platform, they usually mean one of these pairings. A common form of the question is “Is R6 crossplay with PC and Xbox?”, which combines a console-to-PC question with a console-to-console one that had different answers.
Timeline by platform pairing
| Date | Platforms that can play together | What became possible | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| December 2020 | Players within the same console family, including across console generations | Crossplay and cross-progression within the PlayStation family and within the Xbox family, announced with the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S versions and Operation Neon Dawn. PlayStation and Xbox players were not yet in one pool. | Ubisoft announcement, December 1, 2020 |
| June 30, 2021 | PC, Stadia, and Amazon Luna | Unified matchmaking and progression across these platforms, starting with Stadia’s June 30 launch. Consoles were not part of this group. | Ubisoft announcement, June 12, 2021 |
| December 6, 2022 | PlayStation with Xbox, and other console-to-console pairings | Console crossplay and broad cross-progression arrived with Operation Solar Raid. Ubisoft’s 2021 plans pointed to an early-2022 timeframe for console crossplay, so the live December 2022 release is the date to use. | Ubisoft News, Operation Solar Raid available now; Ubisoft season page |
| December 3, 2024 | Console with PC | Console to PC Crossplay 1.0 released with Operation Collision Point. Ubisoft’s roadmap lists the feature as released. | Ubisoft roadmap; Operation Collision Point page |
Reading the 2021 PC and cloud announcement
The June 2021 change is often mistaken for console crossplay. Ubisoft’s announcement stated: “Crossplay between cloud-gaming platforms and PC will be available following launch on Stadia on June 30.” It covered PC and cloud services only. Console players were not included until the December 2022 and December 2024 milestones above.
#1 Best Overall

How console and PC play works now
- Console players can enable crossplay with PC players, according to Ubisoft’s Operation Collision Point page.
- A squad that includes a PC player is placed in the PC matchmaking pool.
- PC players cannot enter console matchmaking pools.
- When console players queue for Ranked in the PC pool, their PC rank progress is tracked separately from their console rank.
Cross-progression is a separate setting
Crossplay controls who you play against. Cross-progression controls what you keep. Ubisoft says saved content is tied to your Ubisoft account, so you need to sign in to the same Ubisoft account, or to a console account linked to it, to access shareable content on another platform. Ubisoft Support notes that not all content carries over.
Ubisoft’s cross-platform synchronization article, dated November 22, 2022, lists the shared items as currency, packs, operators, cosmetics, and boosters.

Limits of these dates
- The dates above come from Ubisoft’s announcements and roadmap, the most recent of which is dated December 2024. Matchmaking rules and account-sharing details can change with later game updates, so check the in-game settings if you are setting up a new account.
- Crossplay and cross-progression should be checked separately. Being able to play with another platform does not guarantee that your progress follows you.
- Platform support is by pairing, not by game-wide status. Asking whether R6 is cross-platform has no single yes-or-no answer without naming the two platforms.
