No active Fallout 76 free-play offer is established for the week of October 8, 2026. The headline’s matching December 2025 promotion and a later January–February 2026 event have both ended. Check your platform’s current store listing for a newer offer before downloading or planning to play.
What the current offer information says
TechRadar’s December 17, 2025 story described a free-play period ending December 23, 2025. Bethesda Support later listed an event running January 28–February 5, 2026, with the PlayStation offer ending February 4. Both periods have passed.

Bethesda’s October 6, 2026 Atomic Shop update describes October activities and a free in-game plushie. That is an item inside the game, not an announcement that Fallout 76 itself is free to play.
Because promotions can vary by date and platform, the practical check is the current Fallout 76 listing in your platform’s store. Look for an active free-play offer and its displayed end date; an old article or a free in-game item does not confirm access to the full game.

How to play during a confirmed free-play event
- Open the store for the platform you want to use and search for Fallout 76.
- Confirm that the listing shows an active free-play event, then read that platform’s eligibility prompt and event end date.
- Follow the store’s instructions to download the game. Bethesda’s event guidance includes Steam account setup for Steam, and Game Pass membership on Xbox and PlayStation Plus membership on PlayStation; requirements can depend on the event, so use the current listing rather than assuming those conditions always apply.
- Launch the downloaded game through the platform and account used for the promotion.

Will progress carry over if you buy the game later?
Bethesda Support says save data carries over if you purchase the full game after the free-trial week ends. Keep using the same platform account associated with the trial save. The statement does not establish that progress transfers between different platforms.

Why you may see older free-play dates
The December 2025 headline refers to a specific past promotion, not a standing free-to-play arrangement. Bethesda’s event-date page records a separate January–February 2026 window. Neither confirms an offer in October 2026.
