The documented issue was a platform-pool limitation: Ubisoft grouped PC and streaming-platform players separately from console players. Stadia then stopped running games on January 18, 2023, so it can no longer connect to Xbox—or any other platform—in Rainbow Six Siege.
Was the Stadia-to-Xbox crossplay issue fixed?
There is no documented Ubisoft announcement identifying a Stadia-to-Xbox bug or confirming a fix. Instead, Ubisoft’s rollout information describes separate matchmaking groups. Its June 2021 announcement said PC, Stadia, and Amazon Luna players would queue together, with console crossplay planned separately. Ubisoft’s November 23, 2022 Year 7 Season 4 update later stated that PC and streaming-platform players would remain in a different matchmaking pool from console players.
Those statements support a platform-group limitation, not a confirmed fix for a bug. Google’s Stadia shutdown made the question moot: Stadia gameplay ended on January 18, 2023.
Why Stadia and Xbox players could not matchmake
Siege crossplay was not a single pool spanning every platform. The planned PC-and-streaming group included Stadia, while console crossplay was a separate rollout. Ubisoft’s later description explicitly kept PC and streaming-platform players apart from console players. Turning on a console crossplay setting could not override that separation.

Google announced Stadia’s wind-down on September 29, 2022, with gameplay available through January 18, 2023. Phil Harrison, then Stadia’s Vice President and General Manager, wrote: “Players will continue to have access to their games library and play through January 18, 2023 so they can complete final play sessions.” After that date, Stadia was no longer a playable Siege endpoint.
What Xbox players can check now
For crossplay with currently supported platforms, Ubisoft’s crossplay and cross-progression guidance says console crossplay is off by default. Check the in-game setting at Options > General > Crossplay Matchmaking; Xbox also has a console-level crossplay setting. These controls apply to supported crossplay—they cannot reconnect to Stadia or place players in a matchmaking group Ubisoft keeps separate.

Crossplay is not cross-progression
Crossplay determines who can be matched together. Cross-progression carries eligible saved progress and content between platforms; it does not mean those platforms share matchmaking. Ubisoft says players must link the same Ubisoft account to the relevant platform accounts and launch Siege on both platforms to access saves across them. Account linking and shared progression do not restore Stadia matchmaking.
