Choose red or black silk in Assassin’s Creed Shadows based on which look you prefer: either kosode completes “Dress for Success,” and guides report no major story consequence. To reach the choice, finish “Searching Sakai,” recover the merchant’s stolen silk from a pirate ship offshore, then return to her in southwest Sakai.
How to complete “Dress for Success”
The quest is part of the Golden Teppo thread and becomes available after “Searching Sakai.” Naoe needs suitable clothing for tea master Imai Sokyu’s ceremony. The walkthrough steps below are reported by published guides, rather than firsthand testing.

- Unlock the quest: Complete “Searching Sakai.” Then look for “Dress for Success” in the Golden Teppo thread. PowerPyx’s walkthrough covers the quest.
- Find the kosode maker: Go to southwest Sakai, near the waterfront, and speak with the merchant. She explains that pirates stole the silk shipment she needs.
- Recover the silk: Head offshore to the pirate-occupied ship. Deal with the guards and search the ship’s chest for the silk, then return it to the merchant. Gamer Guides’ walkthrough also describes the ship and silk retrieval.
- Pick a kosode: Choose red Chinese silk or black Portuguese silk. Either selection completes the quest.
Should you choose red or black silk?
The choice is between the red Chinese-silk kosode and the black Portuguese-silk kosode. Available walkthroughs characterize it as a preference or cosmetic choice, not a major story branch. Pick the color you like; both choices finish the quest. Game8’s guide describes the choice.
Does the kosode choice change anything later?
GamesRadar+ reports that the chosen color determines Naoe’s relaxed clothing at the Hideout in certain scenes, while the criticism Naoe receives at the tea party happens regardless of color. This is guide-reported behavior; no official Ubisoft explanation for the choice’s exact later effect was identified. Guides differ in how they describe when the garment appears, so the supported takeaway is that either color completes the quest and no major story consequence is reported. Read the GamesRadar+ guide.
