The bot changes cover how PMC bots relate to each other and to players, where they move, how consistently they appear in raids, and how their gear and threat scale. Prestige resets profile progression only in PvE Zone. Battlestate’s official preview states that it does not reset Escape from Tarkov: Arena progression.
What changed for PMC bots
The patch notes treat bot behavior as the core of the PvE update. The changes are spread across four areas, and each one alters encounters in a different way. The detailed wording below comes from the patch notes as reproduced on SteamDB, dated October 6, 2026.
Faction relations and first contact
USEC and BEAR PMC bots are now significantly more likely to team up and to stay non-hostile toward each other. Separately, PMC bots have a small chance to remain neutral toward a PMC player until that player approaches or attacks them. In practice, a PMC player may now meet bots that do not open fire immediately, but that behavior is probabilistic, not guaranteed.
Player Scavs
PMC bots will not attack player Scavs first unless the player Scav approaches or attacks them. The same notes say bots will more often start fights with Scavs and bosses. The change is narrower than “bots are friendly now”: it protects player Scavs from unprovoked first strikes from PMC bots while making other hostile encounters more frequent.

- A must-have for Tarkov fans. Whether you’re messing around in the hideout or building the ultimate 'Chad' loadout, this collectible hits hard.
Movement, presence and spawns
- PMC bots move more actively toward points of interest and task areas.
- Their movement is less linear, and they can visit areas they did not previously visit.
- PMC bots will always be present at the start of a raid.
- Bot numbers are described as more consistent, with a more even distribution across locations.
- Bots were added to The Labyrinth.
Because the notes describe these as design changes rather than measured outcomes, the practical effect on raid length, route planning and encounter density is best judged by playing the update.
Gear and threat by level and faction
Threat now scales with bot level and faction. Low-level bots use gear generally available at lower trader Loyalty Levels and pose less of a threat. Higher-level bots carry better weapons and high-level equipment. A player’s first raids in PvE will therefore be less dangerous than late-game encounters, which is a clearer difficulty curve than the notes gave before this update.

PvE Prestige: what resets and what stays
Prestige is the second major pillar of 1.2.0.0. It has six PvE levels. Each level resets the player profile’s progression in PvE Zone only. Some gear, a percentage of skills and weapon mastery are retained, up to 50%.
Requirements
Each Prestige level has requirements that may include character level, tasks, Hideout construction, story completion, stash items and money, and skills. Requirements become more demanding at each level. The first PvE level has reduced requirements compared with the PvP equivalent.

Rewards that persist
Many Prestige rewards remain with the PvE character. The notes also list PvE-earned rewards that are available in all modes: TarCoins, unique dogtags, Shooting Range Targets, Hideout Posters, melee weapons, Tarko figurines, and a unique Gamma secure container. Battlestate’s official preview describes unique knife and Gamma variants, and says TarCoins can be spent in the Expansions Hub in any game mode. These are in-game rewards only.

Sources and what is not yet known
Battlestate’s official Escape from Tarkov Telegram channel previewed the update with this sentence: “The upcoming 1.2.0.0 update will focus on improving the PvE gameplay experience.” The post is attributed to the official channel, not to a named developer. Inven Global’s October 6, 2026 report, originally written in Korean and translated with editorial review, independently summarizes the bot changes and the Prestige launch. It says the patch went live after maintenance that began at 4:00 PM KST that day.
