No—Red Dead Redemption 3 has not been officially confirmed in the sources reviewed. The “confirmation” in the November 2021 headline came from interpreting Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick’s broad comments about the Red Dead franchise as a promise of another game. The catch was that he gave no release date or timeline—and he did not announce RDR3.
Did Rockstar confirm Red Dead Redemption 3?
No named game announcement, development update, trailer, or launch schedule is established by the sources reviewed. The 2021 claim was an inference about the franchise’s future, not an official confirmation of a specific sequel. That distinction matters: a company may expect a successful franchise to continue without announcing its next installment.

In a November 2021 Jefferies conference, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick said, “I think GTA is one of them, I think Red Dead is one of them, NBA is obviously one of them because the game will continue to exist.” He was discussing enduring franchises, not identifying a project as Red Dead Redemption 3. He also said that Take-Two avoids annualizing non-sports titles because it risks burning out an intellectual property, and that the company takes time between releases. That explains why he offered no schedule; it does not supply one. Jefferies and Take-Two Interactive provide the conference and company context.
What was the “catch” in the 2021 headline?
The headline referred to the absence of a release date or timeline. Tech Times’s November 17, 2021 article treated Zelnick’s comments about Red Dead as an indirect indication that the franchise would continue. But the article did not point to a named RDR3 announcement, production update, trailer, or scheduled launch. Its evidence supports the narrower statement that Zelnick expected Red Dead to remain a continuing franchise—not that Rockstar had confirmed the third game. Tech Times

What later statements and figures tell us—and what they don’t
Take-Two’s sales figures show the franchise’s scale
Take-Two’s August 2026 investor presentation reported nearly 116 million units sold-in for the Red Dead Redemption series and more than 87 million units sold-in for Red Dead Redemption 2. “Sold-in” is the company’s reported measure; it should not be read as a count of purchases made directly by players. The presentation also identified Red Dead Redemption 2 as the #3 best-selling title in the United States over the eight years from January 2018 through December 2025, by both unit and dollar sales, based on Circana tracking. These figures establish the series’ commercial significance, not whether a sequel is in development. Take-Two Interactive
Dan Houser predicted another game, but did not announce one
In 2025, former Rockstar co-founder and Red Dead writer Dan Houser said another game would “probably happen.” He also described the existing games as a cohesive two-game arc and said continuing it could be sadder. Houser no longer owns the intellectual property, and his view is a personal prediction—not an announcement from Rockstar or Take-Two. GamesRadar+

Recent releases were versions of an existing game
Take-Two’s August 2026 presentation lists releases of Red Dead Redemption and Undead Nightmare for Switch and PS4 in August 2023, PC in October 2024, and PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Switch 2 in December 2025. Those are releases of existing content; the presentation does not identify them as RDR3 or connect those platforms to a future sequel.
Does Red Dead Redemption 3 have a release date or platforms?
No release date, release window, platform list, protagonist, or story details are established in the sources reviewed. That is a limit on the public evidence cited here, not proof that no private development work exists. Until Rockstar or Take-Two makes a specific announcement, claims about a launch schedule or console versions remain speculation. Rockstar Report

What can you play while you wait?
If you want to return to the series now, Red Dead Redemption 2 is an existing game—not a preorder or substitute name for RDR3. Take-Two’s release history lists it across console generations and PC, including PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Switch 2 availability for the original Red Dead Redemption, not a confirmed RDR3 platform plan. Check a current store listing for the exact game, edition, and platform before buying.
