Sidon of the Zora is a linear quest chain. You start it after finishing The Sludge-Covered Statue, travel to Mipha Court on Ploymus Mountain, and then work through Toto Lake, the Ancient Zora Waterworks, Wellspring Island, and the Water Temple before defeating Mucktorok and earning the Vow of Sidon. There are no branching choices in the sequence, so the main task is making sure each linked objective is finished before you move on.
Before you start
The quest requires The Sludge-Covered Statue to be completed first. It begins in Zora’s Domain, where Yona points Link toward Sidon at Mipha Court on Ploymus Mountain. PowerPyx suggests leaving Zora’s Domain to the east and following the route through Shatterback Point toward Tal Tal Peak, then climbing the final stretch to reach the court.
Route, stage by stage
1. Reach Sidon at Mipha Court
Head to Mipha Court on Ploymus Mountain to meet Sidon and receive the next objective. Yona’s direction is the only signpost you need at this point; the rest of the quest is driven by the investigation that follows.
2. Investigate at Toto Lake
From Sidon, travel to Toto Lake and find Jiahto in the small cave on the southwest side of the lake. Jiahto starts The Broken Slate. Complete that objective and the linked Clues to the Sky step, and finish Restoring the Zora Armor before you go back to Sidon. Guides group these objectives differently, so if a step you expected does not appear, check whether a linked objective is still open before assuming you missed something.

3. Return to Sidon and fight Sludge Like
Go back to Sidon at Mipha Court once the linked objectives are done. Use Sidon’s water ability on Sludge Like, then attack its mouth when the weak point is exposed. Sidon’s water ability is the key mechanic here; ordinary weapon damage is not the route to clearing the threat.
4. Activate the device in the Ancient Zora Waterworks
The next stage is tied to the pillar of light at East Reservoir Lake. Inside the Ancient Zora Waterworks, break the rocks blocking the water, then activate the device in the center of the room. The resulting water jet forms a waterfall, and the Zora Armor lets Link climb it.
Rank #2
- Ultrahand: Using the new Ultrahand ability, Link can pick up, move, and rotate almost any object, and can even attach objects together to create bridges, vehicles, and more!
- Fuse: Magically fuse almost any object to Link’s current weapon, shield, or arrow to increase durability, damage, or even add a new effect. Experiment with lots of different combinations to come up with surprising—and sometimes hilarious—results!
- Ascend: Add a new dimension to your exploration with Ascend, which gives Link the ability to pass through solid objects above him. Rise up through ceilings, hillsides, and even certain enemies to create seemingly impossible shortcuts.
- Recall: Use Recall to make objects in motion move backward through time, letting Link ride fallen boulders skyward, recover thrown weapons, or send projectiles back where they came from.
5. Work through Wellspring Island and the Water Temple
Wellspring Island uses bubble-launch and waterfall mechanics to move you toward the Water Temple. Inside the temple you must activate four faucets. Walkthroughs describe the solution to each faucet as a combination of Sidon’s water ability, which washes away sludge and turns water wheels, and Ultrahand together with floating devices, which move balls and open gates. Expect puzzle detail to vary between guides, but the required actions are the same.
6. Defeat Mucktorok
At the temple’s central device, start the Mucktorok fight. Clear the sludge with Sidon’s water ability, then attack the boss while it is exposed. Guides recommend knocking it down with an arrow when it jumps. After the fight, collect the heart container and speak to Sidon.

7. Receive the Vow of Sidon
The quest ends with the Vow of Sidon, which lets Link summon Sidon to cast protective water bubbles. The game’s own quest data states that Sidon awakens as a sage once the sludge threat is resolved. That in-game text is the most direct record of the outcome; the walkthrough guides are secondary sources and are not official Nintendo guidance.
Quick Recap
Rank #4
If you get stuck
- Jiahto is not in the Toto Lake area: look in the small cave on the southwest side of the lake, not elsewhere on the shore.
- Sidon does not give you the next objective: confirm The Broken Slate, Clues to the Sky, and Restoring the Zora Armor are all complete. The quest does not advance past the Toto Lake gates until they are.
- The waterfall at the Waterworks is not climbable: the Zora Armor is required. Without it, Link cannot climb the water jet.
- The Water Temple faucets do not respond: check that you are using Sidon’s water ability on the sludge and water wheels, and that Ultrahand and the floating devices are being used to move the balls to the gates.
- Mucktorok is not taking damage: clear the sludge first with Sidon’s water ability, then attack while the boss is exposed.
