You can play Episodes from Liberty City on PC through Grand Theft Auto IV: Complete Edition, which includes both The Lost and Damned and The Ballad of Gay Tony. Rockstar’s current official PC listing is for Complete Edition, not a standalone digital release of the episodes. The original standalone disc was released for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3; current availability and compatibility depend on the specific console and should not be assumed from that original release.

Rockstar’s official Rockstar Store listing for Grand Theft Auto IV: Complete Edition says the PC edition includes Grand Theft Auto IV and both episodes: The Lost and Damned and The Ballad of Gay Tony. The listing showed $19.99 when checked in 2026; that price can change.

The store lists Windows 10 as the minimum operating system, 22 GB of free disk space for a minimal install, and an internet connection for initial activation. Rockstar advises checking current compatibility with your hardware manufacturer and Rockstar Support, so these listed requirements do not guarantee that every modern PC or integrated graphics setup will run the game.
Can you play the episodes without GTA IV?
Yes, if you have the original standalone console disc: Rockstar and Take-Two’s April 13, 2010 announcement said that the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 disc contained both episodes and did not require a copy of Grand Theft Auto IV. That describes the original release, not current retail stock, store listings, or compatibility with every later console.

The current official PC route is different: Rockstar’s Complete Edition bundles the episodes with the base game. The evidence available does not establish a current standalone digital purchase of the episodes for PC or PlayStation.
How to install an old PC disc
Rockstar Support’s article updated April 9, 2026 explains that a PC disc copy of Episodes from Liberty City can be upgraded to Grand Theft Auto IV: Complete Edition. The process requires the Rockstar Games Launcher and a valid activation code.

The documented original console platforms are Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, where the standalone disc included both episodes. A used disc may be an option if you specifically want the original console release, but availability, condition, and seller reliability vary; check the disc and the target console’s compatibility before buying.

Rockstar’s support index records an Xbox One backward-compatibility update dated February 11, 2024. That confirms an update was documented, but it does not establish present-day digital store availability or compatibility on Xbox Series X|S. The original PlayStation 3 release likewise does not establish a current PlayStation Store listing or playability on newer PlayStation consoles. Check the current platform and store information before relying on either route.
Is it available on Steam?
Rockstar’s support index discusses updating Steam copies to Complete Edition, and Steam appeared as a listing in search results. However, the Steam page redirected to an age gate when checked, so current standalone purchase status under the former listing name could not be confirmed. For a clearly documented current PC purchase route, use Rockstar’s Complete Edition listing.
