Mechagon is an island off the coast of Kul Tiras in World of Warcraft—a separate zone, not a city within Kul Tiras. The original route starts with the quest “The Legend of Mechagon”: Alliance characters picked it up in Boralus, while Horde characters picked it up in Dazar’alor. Blizzard later lowered the Mechagon questline’s starting level to 30, so the original expansion-era prerequisites should not be treated as universal current requirements.
Where Mechagon is on the map
Mechagon Island lies off Kul Tiras’s coast. Blizzard introduced it as a new destination in the Rise of Azshara update. The island’s story follows Prince Erazmin and the Rustbolt Resistance as they oppose King Mechagon. Blizzard’s Mechagon Island Visitor’s Guide describes the island and its setting.
How to start the route to Mechagon
Original faction quest locations
In the original introduction, the quest to look for was “The Legend of Mechagon.” Alliance players found it in Boralus near the flight master; Horde players found it in Dazar’alor near the flight master. These pickup directions come from Blizzard’s 2019 Rise of Azshara content notes.
Current level information
Blizzard’s July 2023 Fractures in Time update notes say the questline into Mechagon starts at level 30, reduced from level 50. The level change is the current access detail established by those notes; they do not establish that every character must replay the original Nazjatar hub and Heart of Azeroth progression. See Blizzard’s Fractures in Time content update notes.

Why older instructions mention Nazjatar
When Mechagon launched in 2019, its introduction was tied to the Rise of Azshara progression: players first established a Nazjatar hub and empowered the Heart of Azeroth before being sent to investigate the island. That describes the original expansion-era sequence, not a requirement confirmed for every character today.

The island’s activities include quests, scavenging, and crafting. The junkyard crafting system uses materials gathered there. In the original update, Pascal-K1N6 could use Spare Parts and Energy Cells to craft equipment, mounts, toys, and consumables. Blizzard described daily quests and other island-specific activities as ways to earn the trust of the new allies.
