For most esports players, no. A 1,000Hz monitor is a specialist upgrade that makes the most sense if you play competitive shooters, your PC can sustain exceptionally high frame rates, and motion clarity matters more to you than resolution, image quality, versatility, or price. A native 1,000Hz FHD monitor is now a real product category, but the available evidence does not establish that it improves match results for every player.
What does 1,000Hz mean?
A 1,000Hz refresh rate means a monitor can refresh its image up to 1,000 times per second. At that rate, the interval between refreshes is one millisecond—but that is not the same as one-millisecond total input latency, a one-millisecond pixel transition, or a game rendering 1,000 unique frames each second.
Motion performance depends on more than refresh rate. Pixel response, frame delivery, connection bandwidth, input latency, blur reduction and variable refresh rate (VRR) behavior all matter. Manufacturer response-time ratings are not directly comparable; for example, PC Gamer notes that pixel-response ratings lack an enforced, widely agreed industry measurement standard in its review of the LG UltraGear 25G590B.
When is a 1,000Hz monitor worth it?
It may suit a specialist competitive setup
Consider one if your main use is competitive FPS play, your system consistently delivers very high frame rates in the games you actually play, and you prioritize motion clarity and display latency over resolution, HDR, broader image quality or value. Check performance in real matches and demanding situations, not just a peak benchmark.

It is a poor value for most players
If your frame rate is far below the monitor’s refresh rate, or you also want a display for single-player games, work or general use, the premium is difficult to justify. LG announced a U.S. price of $999.99 for its 25G590B in August 2026; that is a launch price, not a guarantee of current retail pricing or stock. PC Gamer judged the difference over 500Hz marginal and the display a poor multi-purpose choice. See LG’s U.S. availability announcement and the PC Gamer review for their respective details.
Can your PC and connection use 1,000Hz?
Reaching the advertised refresh rate requires the game to deliver frames and the entire display path to support the monitor’s required timing. TechRadar says sustaining 1,000 FPS is difficult even in esports shooters. PC Gamer reports that the LG 25G590B requires DisplayPort 2.1 for full 1,000Hz operation and that DisplayPort 1.4 is limited to 850Hz at 1080p on that model. These are model-specific details, so check the exact monitor, GPU output, cable, driver and supported resolution-and-refresh timing before buying.

- Quality Visuals: The XV273U 27" IPS monitor with 2560 x 1440 WQHD resolution in a 16:9 aspect ratio presents stunning, high-quality images with excellent detail. The zero-frame design does away with the thick frames found on conventional monitors freeing up precious screen space, so you have more to look at from edge to edge.
- AMD FreeSync Premium Technology: Say “goodbye” to stuttering and tearing. With AMD FreeSync Premium, the monitor’s frames are synced with the graphics card’s frames, which eliminates screen tearing and provides the smoothest gaming experience.
- Up to 1000Hz Refresh Rate: With a crisp WQHD (2560 x 1440) resolution, a smooth 540Hz refresh rate, and support from AMD FreeSync Premium technology, the Nitro XV273U is sure to deliver flawless gameplay. Gamers can also choose a higher refresh rate option with a HD resolution at 1000Hz based on the demands of the game and the task at hand thanks to DFR technology.
- Goodbye Ghosting: With up to a 0.5ms GTG response time and VRB Pro, the XV273U Gaming Monitor eliminates smearing and ghosting. Fast-moving action and dramatic transitions are rendered smoothly with enhanced motion clarity and sharpness.
- Brilliant Colors: Boasting a DCI-P3 95% color gamut, Delta E<2 and VESA DisplayHDR 600, vibrant colors leap from the screen. Revel in the finest visuals your games can deliver!
A monitor set to 1,000Hz does not force a game to render 1,000 frames per second. If the game supplies fewer frames, the display cannot turn those into 1,000 unique game frames. Evaluate your system’s sustained performance in your target titles before paying for headroom you may not use.
How do 1,000Hz options compare with alternatives?
Peak refresh figures are meaningful only when paired with their resolution and mode. A native 1,000Hz FHD mode is not the same as a 1,000Hz mode that requires dropping to 720p.

These specifications do not establish a controlled, head-to-head ranking of latency or esports results across the products. Compare a display’s actual resolution at peak refresh, independent measurements of pixel transitions and overshoot, connectivity, ergonomics and image quality—not the refresh number alone.
What should you check before buying?
- Resolution at peak refresh: Confirm whether the highest rate works at FHD, QHD or a lower resolution, and whether it requires a special mode or overclock.
- Your game’s sustained frame rate: Use the games and settings you actually play. A high monitor refresh rate does not compensate for inconsistent frame delivery.
- GPU, port and cable: Check that your graphics card output and cable support the monitor’s required timing at the chosen resolution.
- Measured motion behavior: Look for independent pixel-response and overshoot measurements, not just a manufacturer’s millisecond rating.
- VRR and blur reduction: Confirm whether the specific variable-refresh and blur-reduction features you want can run together, and under which settings. The announced specifications do not establish every model’s combinations.
- How you use the display: Consider whether FHD and a specialist esports focus suit your other games and everyday tasks.
- Price and availability: Distinguish announced or review-time pricing from a current offer, and announcements from products that are actually on sale.
Should you wait for more 1,000Hz monitors?
Several manufacturers announced native FHD 1,000Hz models in 2026, but an announcement is not proof that a monitor is available to buy in your market. Acer’s XB253Q U1 announcement did not state retail pricing or establish current sale status; AOC said the AGP257FT was expected in Q1 2027, with European pricing not yet announced. Confirm local availability and price when shopping.

There is also no established universal threshold showing that every player will perceive a benefit or achieve better results at 1,000Hz. Treat claims about faster reactions or competitive gains as product positioning unless supported by independent evidence. For many buyers, a well-chosen 240–500Hz monitor and a system that delivers stable frame rates are a more balanced priority than paying a specialist premium for 1,000Hz.
