Yes—Tomb Raider (2018), Alicia Vikander’s reboot of the game-film series, is currently being reported as a Netflix trend. That does not mean it is available in every country, or that it holds a particular global chart position. Catalogs differ by territory, and another current listing names HBO Max as a streaming option. Check the Netflix catalog for your location before assuming you can watch it there.
The Fallout connection is Walton Goggins. He plays Mathias Vogel in Tomb Raider and Cooper Howard, also known as the Ghoul, in Amazon’s Fallout television series. Goggins’ presence is the clearest reason a current Fallout headline points viewers toward this older game adaptation.

What is Tomb Raider (2018) about?
Directed by Roar Uthaug, Tomb Raider is a 2018 action-adventure reboot starring Alicia Vikander as Lara Croft. Lara investigates her father’s disappearance and follows his trail to a dangerous island, where the expedition becomes a fight for survival rather than a conventional treasure hunt.
The movie is based on Crystal Dynamics’ Tomb Raider series and draws particularly from the 2013 video-game reboot. Its Lara begins as a capable but unproven young woman, so the film emphasizes the character’s transition into the explorer audiences recognize from the games.

Which Fallout actor appears in Tomb Raider?
Walton Goggins appears in both productions. In Tomb Raider, he plays Mathias Vogel, a threatening figure connected to the island expedition. In Fallout, he plays Cooper Howard/The Ghoul, one of the series’ central characters.
That crossover matters because Fallout has become a major television hit. Amazon’s 2026 update says the first two seasons have reached more than 100 million viewers worldwide. The audience association with Goggins can therefore send viewers back to his earlier film work, even though Tomb Raider predates the series by six years.

How does the film connect to the 2013 game reboot?
The movie uses the 2013 game’s reboot framework: Lara is pulled into a dangerous investigation involving her missing father, reaches an isolated island, and must survive escalating physical threats. It is not a scene-for-scene adaptation, however. The film reshapes characters, timing and set pieces for a roughly two-hour theatrical story.
Viewers who want the source material should start with the Tomb Raider (2013) video game. The game provides the clearest version of the survival-focused origin structure that the film adapts, while offering substantially more time for exploration, puzzles and character development.

How was Tomb Raider received?
Reception was mixed. Rotten Tomatoes lists a 52% Tomatometer from 327 critics’ reviews and a 55% Popcornmeter from more than 10,000 audience ratings. Its critics’ consensus credits the reboot with taking a more grounded approach, but argues that an uninspired origin story limits the result.
That split helps explain the film’s current position: it is accessible action entertainment with a recognizable game connection, yet it was not broadly embraced as a definitive video-game adaptation. Vikander’s physical commitment and the survival setup are often the main attractions, while the familiar expedition plot and uneven character writing are the common reservations.
Did the 2018 movie get a sequel?
No sequel to Vikander’s film is moving forward. A planned follow-up was canceled in 2022. Separately, an Amazon MGM Tomb Raider reboot has been described as in development; that project is distinct from the 2018 movie and should not be treated as evidence that a direct sequel has been announced.

Should you watch it because of Fallout?
If Goggins’ performance in Fallout is what brought you to the film, expect a different kind of role. Mathias Vogel is an antagonist in a conventional action-adventure structure, whereas Cooper Howard/The Ghoul is a morally layered, post-apocalyptic lead. The shared actor is the connection, not a shared universe or story.
Tomb Raider is best approached as a brisk, grounded origin adventure and as a gateway to the 2013 game, rather than as an extension of Fallout. Its nearly two-hour runtime makes it an easy one-evening watch if it is licensed in your market, with the caveat that availability may shift.
