Its maintainer identifies the PSP-3000 as tested; other models have more limited or no stated support. The built-in browser remains an option for simple compatible pages, but its older engine and security limitations make it unsuitable for many current websites.
Which PSP browser should you use?
The right choice depends on your PSP model and whether you can run homebrew. Tilefinch is the only option here with current PSP-specific project documentation, but its compatibility claims come from its maintainer and it remains experimental. Sony’s Internet Browser is already on the system and needs no homebrew. Opera Mini through PSPKVM is a historical workaround whose present-day operation is not established.

| Option | What it offers | Requirements and limits |
|---|---|---|
| Sony Internet Browser | Built-in browser with controls for JavaScript, Flash, memory conservation, proxy, cookies and cache. | No homebrew required. It uses a legacy browser engine; some current sites, encryption and media may not work. |
| Tilefinch | Experimental browser engine that runs on the PSP itself, with no proxy or companion PC according to its project documentation. | Requires homebrew/custom firmware and 64 MB memory mode. PSP-3000 is listed as tested; PSP-2000 and PSP Go are expected but unqualified; PSP-1000 is unsupported. |
| Opera Mini through PSPKVM | A Java ME phone-browser client run inside a homebrew virtual machine; it relies on server-side page rendering. | Depends on Opera’s proxy servers accepting the old client. Current availability has not been verified. |
For Tilefinch’s compatibility and installation details, see the Tilefinch project documentation. Sony’s browser settings guide documents the stock browser controls. The PSP Developer wiki’s Internet Browser reference describes the legacy engine and its constraints.
Check your PSP model and requirements first
Tilefinch’s maintainer states that the project targets the PSP’s 64 MB memory mode. The listed compatibility is model-specific: PSP-3000 is the tested device; PSP-2000 and PSP Go are expected to work but are not qualified; PSP-1000 is unsupported. The PSP-E1000/Street has no Wi-Fi, so only Tilefinch’s offline library would be usable on that model.

- PSP-3000: the project’s tested model, subject to its homebrew and memory-mode requirements.
- PSP-2000 or PSP Go: expected by the maintainer, but not qualified as tested.
- PSP-1000: listed as unsupported.
- PSP-E1000/Street: no Wi-Fi; online browsing is not possible.
These are the project maintainer’s compatibility statements, not independent test results. Confirm that your PSP can run homebrew/custom firmware before attempting installation. Tilefinch recommends about 20 MB of free storage for everyday browsing and updates. Check the capacity and compatibility of your existing Memory Stick first; a PSP-compatible card or adapter provides storage, not improved website or encryption compatibility.
Install Tilefinch
- Download the PSP ZIP from the Tilefinch project page and extract it.
- On the Memory Stick, copy the complete
TILEFINCHfolder intoPSP/GAME/. The launcher should be atPSP/GAME/TILEFINCH/EBOOT.PBP. - Make sure the card has about 20 MB free, as recommended by the project for everyday browsing and updates.
- Launch Tilefinch from the PSP’s game list. If it does not appear, check that the folder is in
PSP/GAME/and thatEBOOT.PBPis inside theTILEFINCHfolder.
Installation alone does not guarantee that every site will load. The project’s model statements are experimental, and web pages can still vary in compatibility.

What the built-in browser can—and cannot—do
Sony’s user guide describes the Internet Browser as a way to view web pages, but that purpose statement is not a promise that it supports the current web. The PSP Developer wiki characterizes it as a legacy NetFront implementation with constrained memory and outdated TLS/certificate support. As a result, a PSP may connect to a network successfully while a modern site still refuses to load or fails to display correctly.
Sony’s settings can help with some page and resource constraints, but they do not replace the browser engine or update its security support. Sony warns that some images and animations may not display properly. Its memory-conservation option can allow larger pages to display by reducing image quality. The guide lists a maximum cache setting of 2048 KB.

- JavaScript and Flash: settings are available, but changing them cannot make unsupported site technology compatible.
- Memory conservation: may help a larger page display, with reduced image quality.
- Cookies and cache: can be managed in the browser settings; clearing them may address stale stored data, not engine or TLS limitations.
- Proxy: the stock browser offers proxy configuration, but that setting is not evidence of a working modern browsing proxy.
Open the stock browser and troubleshoot connection failures
Sony’s PSP-3004 manual says to establish wireless access, then launch Internet Browser from the Network menu. A working Wi-Fi connection and a compatible website are separate requirements.
- Set up wireless access using the PSP’s network settings.
- From the XMB, open Network and choose Internet Browser.
- If a page fails, check whether other simple pages load. If the PSP is online but a particular current site fails, the problem may be the browser’s legacy encryption, certificates, memory, or page support rather than Wi-Fi.
- For a large page, try the memory-conservation setting, understanding that image quality may fall. Review JavaScript, Flash, cache, cookie and proxy settings only when they relate to the page or connection issue.
Sony documents these controls in its Internet Browser settings guide; its PSP-3004 user manual covers the system’s network and browser menus.

Is Opera Mini through PSPKVM still an option?
PSPKVM can run a Java ME version of Opera Mini on a PSP with homebrew, and Opera Mini’s server-side rendering historically offered a lighter browsing path. However, this route depends on Opera’s proxy servers continuing to accept the old client. Present-day service availability is unverified, so do not rely on it as a working alternative without confirming it on your own device. The PSP Developer wiki describes this approach and its dependency.
What “modern browser” means on a PSP
Tilefinch is an on-device browser project, not a way to give the PSP desktop- or phone-class web compatibility. Its 64 MB memory-mode target and model limits make hardware and homebrew eligibility the first checks. The stock browser may still suit lightweight pages that remain compatible, while its settings can only adjust behavior within its existing engine. No usage, speed, or compatibility-rate statistics are established by the cited sources, so claims that one option works for a particular percentage of sites would be unsupported.
